I am now 55 and have been working as a dentist for 30 years, 27 of them self-employed. And even though I am successful in my job and earn a relatively large amount of money, I long for a change. I no longer want to work alone, but more in a team. I would like to give away some responsibility and devote more time to my actual work. That's why I made the decision to close my practice and switch to employment. As you get older you become reasonable. Thank you for your great videos, they touch me. If you ever come to Northern Germany, contact me. Then we'll go on tour together. Thanks! Chris
Thanks Chris. Coming to northern Germany would be great. There is a chance I'll be doing a trip over to Hamburg sometime this year and then on to Norway. I'll let you know. You're so right when you say we become more reasonable as we age. That's a good thing I think.
Matt, your doing a great job for your son there , a legacy that will bond your relationship and one day you will have a beer with him in it when its done. These time are important, I had a similar time with my dad who helped me with my house and it provides an important bond now. Well done on making a decision for yourself, one of jordan petersons 12 rules for life is ' treat yourself like someone your responsible for' this makes me think when im running myself into the floor with work. Keep up the honesty and great content.
Thanks Lee. Yea, it's been a really special time (tiring too!). That rule from JP's book is one of the hardest I think as it requires you put your needs first occasionally, not an easy thing! Thanks so much for the comment mate, much appreciated.
Anything that lift's your spirit's no matter how small is a healthy thing to have in your life. Thanks for posting, good luck to you and Marcus on this new adventure.
I was self employed for 17 years moneys good but life passes by missed out on a lot of family life that you can never catch up on. Worked for a firm until until age and mental health caught up spend my time with my kids and grand kids most days best time of my life.
That's good to hear mate. Good to get the balance right. I've probably pushed myself a bit too hard for a number of years, not the healthiest thing to do in the long run. This does feel like a better balance.
I grew up in Keynsham, used to love the ride from there to Weston-super-Mud. Did the same trip recently and it was all 20/30/40 limits as opposed to nationals. Sad times!
Pill is just up the road from me. I can understand the attraction with South Wales. My oldest son will be moving to Cardiff with his wife in the next year or so. Wales is stunning.
Apparently 8/10 buyers are Bristolians relocating. Not sure if that is entirely accurate, but I do understand the draw to Weston. Always loved the place.
You " don't really know what people love watching", your words! If you just do what YOU like doing BEST, you'll do it with heart and conviction. I met Jaqcui Furneau at Woodrow’s in Swansea a few weeks ago. A great talk by a fascinating lady. I got a signed copy of her book of course. I haven’t started it yet but I’m sure it’s a great read. Good luck with the new job.
Looks like an interesting town to me! Congratulations on the career move! I would imagine after 20 years of self-employment, this will be a nice change of pace.
And there was me thinking you were gonna take us for a walk down the Pier when you had it in full view of the camera. I too love the sea, it's one of the reasons I enjoy being out at the end of piers, especially when it's windy, gazing out into the distance and soaking up the wind and spray. I was self employed, until the branch I was in, was hit hard economically, and my money started to run out, so I quit and worked in the same field of work, but as a branch Manager. Oh dear, having been used to doing things my own way, making my own decisions and catering for my own customers, the general working atmosphere and communication with head office rotted so I quit. So, now what? Quite by chance, I was offered an opportunity in a completely different field of work and spontainiously said Yes! I took to it like a fish does to water, worked my way up through the ranks and finally retired after 20 years of fulfilling work there. I consider myself lucky, when comparing myself to some of my mates, who only go to their work, and hold it out for the wage paket and the next weekend....,for want of a better comparision. So all the best of luck Matt with your next, or new career adventure, hope all goes well. If not, we'll go Moto touring together, between each House rebuild!
Haha, that sounds like a good plan! Honestly miss the touring thing, would love to be back out there soon on a new adventure. Glad things turned out well for you though, not everyone's story. Work is best when it's something we enjoy, at least a bit...
So i just got my own Thunderbird Sport (1997). But i'm a bit confused with what fuel to put in for it, E5 or E10. GovUK says that E10 should be fine but i know the manual says RON95. What are you typically filling up with?
Hi Alex. I use either without any issues. I'm not entirely sure about this, but I think there is a carb conversion for the Thunderbird which makes using either no issue. Someone can possible enlighten me on this but possibly something to do with the gaskets and how they respond to the different fuel grades?

Good luck with the new venture. That Triumph was sounding epic.
Thanks Mike, appreciate that. First week has been great!

Yea, the speed limits have been changed a bit in recent years. Was working in Keynsham today actually. That place just keeps growing!
@@thebristolthunderbird wow!! I hope you weren’t taking pics as the weather was hideous 😉
@@TheDervMan it was horrendous weather today. Glad I was working indoors!
Lived in Pill, Portishead and Nailsea for many yrs, now in S.Wales.
Pill is just up the road from me. I can understand the attraction with South Wales. My oldest son will be moving to Cardiff with his wife in the next year or so. Wales is stunning.
Great videos mate
Thanks mate
As a proud. Bristolian I moved to WSM four years ago…..you no what….i enjoy it

Interesting times ahead. The TBird is sounding sweet too.
Always brings a smile to my face. Looking forward to more riding in the coming months.
@@thebristolthunderbird hopefully my Bird will be back on the road this weekend

You are right mate. The Thundy needs some more spotlight time... another tour I think! Thanks for your kind words my friend.

Thanks mate. I was at her talk in Fowlers Bristol a few weeks back. Really good read. Quite a brave thing to do!
Good morning from Melbourne. Got a dry day down here will take my Bird for a squirt up into the Dandenong mountains for a bit of r and r.
That does sound amazing. It's totally smashing it down with rain here....
Bit late in the year now but WSM bike night is worth going to. Easy 100 bikes on a good sunny day.
I have been, probably 4 or 5 times. Always manage to pick the windy and cold ones!
Looks like an interesting town to me! Congratulations on the career move! I would imagine after 20 years of self-employment, this will be a nice change of pace.
Thanks mate. Yea, I'm ready for it!
Good luck in your new job!!
Many thanks!
Another great video.Question what camera mount you got on left side of bars?
Thanka mate. Thats just a cheap clamp from Amazon for the GoPro. It's actually not very good and will be replaced with something more robust soon!
