The Bristol Thunderbird.
Creating a community around adventure, passion for living, good mental health and motorbikes, (for non-bikers too).
For me my passion for adventure was re-kindled with a long motorbike tour on a 1995 Triumph Thunderbird, from Bristol in the UK to the south west of Turkey in the summer of '23.
Initially I decided to record the trip to enjoy watching it afterwards, but around half way through the trip I realised that I was using the trip to off-load a lot of "Stuff" in my life, stress, anxiety, tiredness etc. It was doing me good, quite a healing thing actually. I came home with more passion and desire to explore, do adventure and encourage others to do the same - that's where you all come into this.
I would love to create a bit of a community around adventure, passion for living, good mental health and motorbikes. If you are not a biker you are 100% welcome too!

A Sad Goodbye to GoPro... The DJI Takeover.
Welcome back to TURKIYE! In this video I cover all the reasons I have chosen DJI for all my motovlogging.
This is not such a sad goodbye to GoPro, more of a happy hello to DJI.
I have been asked a number of times about the kit I use when recording my voice and riding at the same time. After some trial and error I have finally found the ultimate moto vlogging kit. It's so much simpler than I thought it would be and the result is amazing. DJI have really knocked it out of the park with their new products, making content creation and moto vlogging so much easier (for me anyway). So it's been a sad goodbye to the GoPro and a big hello to the DJI.

I accidentally bought a 1999 Yamaha Fazer!
มุมมอง 10Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Goodbye Triumph - Hello 1999 Yamaha Fazer! Not really, the Thundy isn't going anywhere! I've been thinking about a winter project with a 600cc bike. I've had a couple of Yamaha Fazers in the past and loved them. They don't have a lot of character but they are great to ride. I took a trip up to Liverpool to pick this one up and rode it back down through Wales. It was a nice day - apart from the ...
Glastonbury - In search of the Holy Grail.

A trip to Glastonbury, the place where legend has it, the Holy Grial might be buried. Whether it is or not I have no Idea, I left my spade at home. Glastonbury is a strange and wonderful place of both the wacky and the profound. I really love it. We took a trip up the Tor, which I haven't done since I was a kid. Lillian came along (not as a pillion, she came with Elias and his mate Charlie). It...

Anyone else with me on this? You do a long trip on your bike and it's pretty much all you can think about after? I know the trip from Bristol to Turkey left a real mark on me. It was actually quite a significant time for me to be away and alone. I had some things I needed to think about and the solitude was a godsend. I came back feeling better and more prepared for the busy time ahead and also...

I accidentally managed to get myself mixed up in a biker gang ride-out! It's a long title I know, but this is all about bikes and kit. I smashed my GoPro 10 in a little accident filming the last episode. I wasn't too upset about it as it has been a nightmare for the most part - battery pulls, freezing up just when I needed to to record, it's been a tense relationship with the GoPro. I've secret...

How do I get in contact with you? I am affraid that somebody in the US is using your picture on a scam Facebook account. I have a friend who has purchased some motorcycle parts, but it looks more and more like a scam. Therefore I am trying to help him, to find out if the Facebook account is real or not. I hope this comment will not cause any problems on you channel and please feel free to delete my comment once I am in contact with you.
I agree with you. The 360 swivel shots are twanky- have always cringed when vlogers on bikes use it and makes me feel seasick. The face recognition on the pocket 3 looks brilliant.
Yes, the 360 just hasn't done it for me at all. There have been a couple of occasions when it's been useful, enough to keep it anyway. The pocket 3 is a game changer though. Worth every penny.
Last month I got the Pocket 3, my first DJI product, completely spur of the moment. Since then I have added the Mic 2, and just ordered the Action 5 Pro today because I have been enjoying the first two pieces of kit so much...just so easy (and fun) to use. I love the way the mic automatically connects, and it's so much faster uploading it to my phone than the other two ecosystems I currently use for my larger traditional style cameras, Canon and OM System. Those two take sooo long to upload a clip, but it's lightning fast with DJI gear. I'd love to see what they could do with a proper cinema camera. Glad you're enjoying your gear too, cheers from Florida.
Florida sounds nice mate! Currently enjoying the last bit of sun in Turkey before heading back to a very wet UK! Yeah, these products are awesome, well thought through and deliver every time. For me they have taken over the market for action cam stuff. Take care mate!
I've just switched from GoPro to DJI too on my cycle vlog. First DJI video uploading at the weekend
I'll take a look mate. Thanks.
GP Pro has been junk for years
Poor GoPro, getting a bashing these days...
Was the interlaced effect a creative decision? 😉 OP3 = completely agree, it's incredible. OA5pro has incredible features (battery life and dual wireless mics), but I'm dissapointed with the image quality - IMO it looks overly processed, colours are off, poor highlight handling, halos on foreground objects (where the sky is in shot).
Creative decision - lol 😅 I won't use it again... Anyways, the image quality has been pretty much identical to the GoPro 10, although the ability to shoot in LOG has changed the editing game if you are into colour grading (I'm not, takes too long!). I don't think I'll be upgrading to the 5, really happy with the 4. Maybe if I smash it I will! The Osmo Pocket 3 is just amazing though - best bit of camera kit I've ever purchased, and I've had quite a bit.
DJI looks unrealistic. GoPro videos look real life. DJI is better for low light situation. But daytime GoPro wins. That's a simple differentiation.
The low light advantage is a funny one, because in reality all action cameras are terrible in low light. I use GoPro's cave diving - they perform just fine when configured correctly and using appropriate illumination. It handles highlights well.
Out of camera it is possibly a slightly more "digital" look. There is a huge editing bandwidth with the Dlog setting though. That opens a whole load of options for different looks. I like to avoid too much editing as it's just too time consuming!
So..., this new set up means we're gonna be treated to much more of you out on the trusty ole Thundy, telling us all about the ride, the countryside and where it is, and all the history of the villages you're taking us through... and we'll understand it all ! Wow, looking forwaed to this
Haha, thanks mate. Yes that right, more chatting from me.
I like it. sounds better than gopro/gohome 😛 urban legend says. the cam is still looking at you 😛 Thanks for the review 😀
Lol, yes mate I think it is. Sometimes wake up in the night and there it is, following me around the room...
Love that jacket
Thanks mate. It's not an expensive one, about £100 on Amazon. Really comfortable and sturdy. I upgraded the back protector with one from a Sheol jacket I had.
I appreciate the feedback. It seems like an absolute bargain. Great videos. Cheers
Great info. I've been wondering about dji. I have a drone that I love. Perhaps it's time to retire my old gopro. cheers!
To be fair to GoPro would have been fine if it wasn't for the mic setup. The DJI has created something that works for me in just about every way. It's nice when something works so perfectly for the job.
That face tracking is rather impressive 👌
You're own film crew!
Nice setup my friend! 32 bit float 😊 basically means you don’t have to adjust the gain on your input as you can have it done in post. It has enough dynamic range so it will not clip the audio. Unless it clips on the mic capsule itself. Sorry just got carried away with my comment. Keep up the great work you are doing. Take care.
Haha. No mate, love a bit of tech talk, thanks!
I’ve look at the Wingman Of The Road many times. I’ve never used one, or even seen one in person, but other than aesthetics, and aesthetics count for a lot, I don’t quite get it. I use what I would use to backpack. I have a two person free standing tent, 3.5” thick therm-a-rest sleeping pad, and a -10°C down camping quilt. I don’t pack the tent inside with the sleeping bag and sleeping pad because there is usually dew on the tent in the morning and the moisture will transfer no matter what you do, so rolling everything up together doesn’t seem like a good idea. My total sleeping gear weights right at about 3 kilos, and takes up about 1/2 the space. I’ve slept comfortably down to almost 0°C.
Hi mate. Thanks for the comment. I think with the wingman it's a mixture of things, aesthetics being one for sure, it looks awesome! Other than that the ruggedness of the tent is really good for a Moto tour, that thing is never going to split or get blown away in the wind! For the tour I did through Europe and into Turkey I guess I could have got away with something lighter and smaller. The fact that it fit so well on the back of the bike (creating a great back rest) and looked so good, made it a great choice. I've also used it on a few occasions in the cold and it has been awesome, with no internal condensation. If space is an absolute restriction then maybe the wingman isn't the best choice, but for the way I use and need a tent, the Wingman is awesome. Again, thanks for the comment mate, much appreciated.
I had a Gen 1 Fazer 1000, brilliant. The 600 has always been revered as truly great do it all bike. 👍🏻
It's the swiss army knife of 600s. I've had 3 so I must like them!
That looks like a great bike, and it sounds like you’re really enjoying it already. I look forward to seeing what you do with it over the winter.
Should be a fun project. My oldest son is an aerospace engineer and he's got all kinds of plans.

Thanks mate. Glad you're enjoying your 883. So tempted to get one, they have legend status in the MC world, loved and hated all at the same time! Thanks for the watch mate and the support. Stay safe. Matt
I had one of those. Amazing bike but the gearbox is shite.
Thanks mate, yes they are pretty awesome bikes. Not noticed any gearbox issues. What's your experience with the gearbox? Would be interested to know.
@@thebristolthunderbird you might have a good one 👍 On mine, if you got hard on the gas in first gear and tried to change to second with high revs it would often miss and you would end up with a false neutral and a load of crunching sounds. The gearbox eventually shat it self on a trip down in Spain. It’s not a fazer things it’s just a 90s Yamaha thing. The R1 and R6 of the time had similar issues.
I’m going to tell my wife the same thing. I purchased it on accident! Ha! Hope the bike is awesome!
Give it a go. It kind of works... The bike is almost too good to chop, but I think it's going to happen anyway!
Great video and I'm not surprised that you fell in love. I have some pretty gnarly bikes, A 250 Dual Sport moded out (ridiculously fun to ride), a Diavel AMG super jacked to approx. 200 hp, and a couple more... I also have a 2003 FZ1. That is The Bike. I cannot say enough positive things about it. If I could only keep one of my five it would be the FZ. In the mountains, I have to consciously remind myself I'm riding a bike, because if I think something the bike is already into the maneuver.
200hp! That's insane. Yeah these little Fazers are unusually awesome for a budget friendly bike. Too much fun to ride.
It's another of those invisible unremarkable solid bikes , that I'd never ever ever consider buying . 😂
Haha. It's not a head turner until you've owned one, and then your looking at them all the time. (The box eye, not the fox eye model). You should try one and see what you think.
You use some cool music in your videos. Can you share the source?
Thanks mate. I've got a subscription with Epidemic sounds.
why would you want to chop a bike like that , you must be mad,
Haha. Yeah, somehow it feels a bit wrong. Maybe my left hand will stop my right when I get the angle grinder out!
I had one good bike
Which one was that?
Hi what camera was u using please...?
I'm using the DJI cameras. All the talking head stuff is using the DJI osmo pocket 3 and all the bike riding footage is with the DJI osmo action 4. The DJI mic2 is compatible with both cameras.
@thebristolthunderbird where abouts do u mount it please ,is it on the chin guard....?
@@andrewphillips9846 yes. The chin mount for the action 4. I'll make a quick video about this, lots of people asking.
Ive had 3 fazers. Still got one. Great bikes when you wind em up.
Totally agree.
I bought a 1999 fazer 600 as a birthday present for my partner .things happened and decided to go ahead with the project .think it's from what you mentioned chopping it up .few vids on my tube finished few weeks ago .mot done been out on it .great fun bike
I'll take a look at that. Thanks!
@@thebristolthunderbird no worries .a bike I'd never even thought of buying in all honesty .but while at a bike rally I searched gumtree and stumbled upon it. Thought why not might be fun bike .it certainly is as you've said nice handling pulls like a train can't ask for more in a cheap bike
Nice bikes. I enjoyed getting back on a 4 cyl bike and how smooth they are , after years of riding twin cyl. Sometimes you need a bike that just does everything ,and the fazer is it.
There is something about the silky smooth ride of a 4 cylinder.
My vote is for a restoration, from a fellow Tbird owner..:-)
I am a bit torn, but the chop is likely to be the outcome.
i got 320 thousand miles out of mine over 15 years till gearbox expired
Wow, that's quite something. Good maintenance schedule by the sound of it.
I'm too busy trying to survive day to day to even think about a mid life crisis. My whole life has been and continues to be a crisis. I'm still paying child maintenance at age 60 for goodness sake. My motorcycle is my diversion from crisis but brings with it more crisis! But I'm hanging on to my Bonneville and life in general, I won't be beaten.
Keep going mate. It's all a bit much sometimes! Let that bonnie supply some therapy.
Hey mate, would you mind doing a video of how you mounted the mic etc. in your helmet. Assuming you just bluetoothed it directly to the Osmo 4?
I'll do that. Had a few people ask me about it. Simple answer is the DJI action 4 with the DJI mic 2 in the helmet. So so simple, and works like a dream.
@@thebristolthunderbirdthanks mate, I dabbled with motovlogging a while ago but all the helmet cabling etc really put me off. This seems such a simple solution.I just found your channel and really enjoying it.Enjoy the fazer, I had one and the are brilliant
I bought a 600 Fazer 22yrs ago and still have it’s now done almost 70000 miles and been brilliant toured France, Wales, Scotland and ridden to work it a really excellent do it all bike👍👍
I honestly haven't heard a single negative thing about Fazers. Maybe they are a bit legendary!
I've owned two Fazer 600s, best middleweight ever in my humble opinion, you can tour , commute, scratch ect, ultra reliable with 170-80 miles on a tank of juice even when you're thrashing it....😊
The tank range is massive. Huge change from my 100 mile thunderbird tank!
Bargain...and they really are great bikes...got a red 1999 myself...sublime.
My first one was red. That was an absolute bag of nails. Second one I should never of sold. Literally perfect in every way. Why????...
lol just commented about WSM bike night on another vid. Had multi RD 125/250/350lc/ypvs. Best bike I've owned was my RGV250P. Sold it then the next yr the price doubled 😢 now I'm priced out of 2strokes, had to put up with getting a CBR600RR 08 heavy lump of lard but goes ok. My other bike is a sliverwing600 that I got because I didn't have a car and needed to carry stuff.
The RD 350! What a great bike. You never know when some models are going to become collectors.
Bit late in the year now but WSM bike night is worth going to. Easy 100 bikes on a good sunny day.
I have been, probably 4 or 5 times. Always manage to pick the windy and cold ones!
Good luck finding a Girlster. Injectors rarely fell, it's just modern fuel is crap and block fuel lines/injectors when stood for a while. Got a drawing of the pier at the bottom of the stairs, was a pez for my mum as part of her family lived there. Mum grow up in Backwell. Thanks for reply on other vid. 👍
'Girlster' haha. Haven't heard that one before.
I sold an absolutely immaculate 600 fazer last month for a thousand pounds. I nearly cried, as it would not sell. I felt I was robbed but now in my seventies the bike became too heavy for me.
The bike market seems to be full of absolute bargains these days!
You lucky bastard!
I'll take that!
I rode an fz6 to S Spain a few years ago. They'll do 120 mph @10,000 rpm easy. Too easy.
They are nippy little things for sure.
Good vid biker , I have a 600cc and a 1000cc fazer enjoyed your video 👍 stay safe.
Never tried the 1000. That must be a bit of a beast. The 600 doesn't hang around!
@@thebristolthunderbird Yes, very different bike despite sharing the Fazer name. The power at lower rpm on the 1000 is addictive. Ergonomics were better too. However, the 1000 wasn't nearly as nimble.
Glastonbury zodiac worth a look at when up on the Tor. Not been up there the last couple of years, you think that is steep should go up the otherside. Can park a bike there in a gateway. Holy Grail has many meanings, I like the Amanita muscaria theory, as it's like a chalice when old, edges turn upwards then water collects mixing with the acid then drink. Then you might find god. If you go Walton church you will find Amanita muscaria pictured in the stain glass windows.
I'll take a look at that when me and Lillian are doing our wanderings. Thanks.
I accidentally bought a tdm 900. Came on my path, bought it to flip it, took it apart and fell in love with it. Not the looks, but with the riding. Now I'm making memories on it with my 8 year old daughter, which she really likes ❤
I love the looks of the TDM , nearly bought one back in the day .
That's what it's all about isn't it. Short life, make memories.
My first bike was a 99 Fazer. Did so much work t get it running nicely. Carb strip down was a game changer. Lovely bikes, I always got compliments.
They are still good looking machines after all these years.
You have a Riders in Bristol, go take one out. imo they are big piles of poo. And yes have rode one, it's all to do with ego and the programming you get in tv/films. But then you might like them more seeing what your riding.
That's probably a good idea, and you are probably right about films/conditioning etc, but the itch is still there. Help!
I had an 883 back in the day,I loved the bike. Always wanted one and I was not disappointed, not a perfect bike but what is but like triumph and royal Enfield s they have a soul.just give one a try and scratch that barley itch. 😊
They really are chalk and cheese for bikers aren't they! Makes the itch even worse... I have actually got one lined up and may pull the trigger. It's not the 883r but a bog standard 883, totally untouched. Just need that extra garage...
Great all-rounder. Looking forward to what you do to it. Also, that’s a really nice jacket - what is it?
Got the jacket off eBay. Was only £90 ish. Bike Wear Direct, product 62230.
@@thebristolthunderbird what a bargain!
I knew a fella years ago who thought he was buying a Triumph chopper and only realised it was actually a Yamaha when he was signing the paperwork and was to embarrassed to back out of the purchase Ended up with a better bike anyway
