That’s good, but remember that it doesn’t do a lot to your credit score if you settle or pay it off AND they won’t remove it from your credit report. It still shows up on your credit report, AND it resets the statute of limitations of suing AND reporting, so your score is going to take a hit for the first few months. The only way this will benefit you is if they completely delete the entry from your report. A lot of legit collectors are doing that because the consumer has smartened up to how paying a collection doesn’t benefit them, especially if the SOL expires. The only way legit collectors are getting their money is to agree to delete the item from the credit report.

I've recieved letters for both times I was sent to collections. Didn't pay the first one because I didn't agree that I should but the second one was to the its so I paid that..

My wife had to go in the hospital couple years ago. had a balance of $6K. We paid it down over a year to $3K. The hospital turned it over to a debt collector during the process but we kept paying the hospital instead monthy to get the balance to the current $3k. Now the hospital has written off the debt we are told by the debt collector. I'm leary about paying these guys? I'm already paying on a collection account monthly. Should I just continue, would it be best to try to pay it off, or discontinue all together? Would I even be eligible for a payoff discount amount? To many ?'s SORRY. Still learning.
I would not discontinue paying it off since it will be on your credit court for a longer period of time. But I will try to renegotiate the terms if possible. In addition I would also try to get something in writing stating to remove this collection account off your credit for it once it’s paid off.
Hi So I mailed out my Verizon equipment in 2019 and they claim they didn't receive it. I have proof I sent it out and a tracking number but they refuse to follow up on the tracking number and they won't remove it from my credit report but it's not listed as collections.

I have 2 chapter 13’s that are dismissed. The reason I have 2 is bcz I did n+ot use an attorney. I was trying to stop an eviction, but when I went to try to add another month’s rent to the bankruptcy, but the guy filed another one. About a month later, I ended up losing my job. They can’t contact you at all if you ask them not to, also if you ask them to contact you with only written correspondences they have to do that too. If they don’t you can actually get the debt erased because they aren’t following rules. There are a few exceptions though. You just have to communicate these things with them.

Yea Navy federal gave me a really high limit. I applied and was denied at first so I got a service from this name below, and I was approved for a capital one. The limit was so small lol but I took it and worked on it. Because if that it helped my credit and I believe that’s what made me finally get approved for navy fed with such a high limit. they're still working on increasing the capital one since it was so low. All in all I’m satisfied.

I Negotiated my own collection payments. I paid it then and within six months I have excellent credit I owed almost 4 to chase I paid 600.00 it went away.

If the company I owed money to, "sells" my debt to a third party, why would I owe the third party money I never agreed to repay or signed a contract with?
Hello, I have a question about my credit card. I got a credit card with a $300 limit and the minimum I owe is $17.91. It says: “Minimum Payment Warning: If you make only the minimum payment each period, you will pay more in interest and it will take you longer to pay off your balance. The table is based on your standard minimum payment and does not include any past due and over limit amounts. For example: If you make no additional charges using this card and each month you pay ... only the minimum payment You will pay off the balance shown on this statement in about... 1 months And you will end up paying an estimated total of ... $18.00” Do I pay $17.91, $18.00, or more than that to avoid interest? And is it best to pay by the statement date or the due date? Or do I split it into paying half by the statement date and the other half by the due date? Also, would it be best to use my credit card every month?
At 34 years old I finally feel ready to settle down long enough to buy a house. Unfortunately due to previous horrible stupid life decisions, I'm forced to start with a zero balance in my savings account. I wrote you earlier but it didn't post so trying again. Look into first time home buyer money you can get into a home dirt cheap that way. I was able to buy a brand new home with only $900 down. FHA loan. Ask around at different banks & mortgage lenders for first time home buyer money it's usually easier to get in the first part of the year. Any lender can pre-qualified you too, they'll let you know what you can afford . Fha loans are a littler easier to get if your credits not perfect. Only need a score of around 620 or so.
Savings is great however it isn't enough. Put just as much effort & energy into fix/get-ing credit. Your credit score is the only thing that can get you the best Interest rates "deals". Credit builder, secured credit etc. A dwn pyt is just too seal the deal. Doesn't make as much of a difference, you'd think. My brother in law had the lowest interest rate & payed off his jeep earlier than my bro. My brother thought a big dwn pyt would result in a good interest rate along with options. It was definitely a rude awaking.
I wish I would've known this 5 years ago. I let a Sprint account go into collections, and I started getting harassed by the collection agencies during weekend drills. I did manage to get the money I owed to Sprint... I just went directly to them and settled the account myself, telling the collectors to pound sand. I removed the collection a few years later when I started to get into credit rehab, but I know it could've been worse. Still... always good to know the tools you have for a given situation. Can someone tell me why is it that when I ask the collection agencies that if they bought off the account they respond with “we don’t buy debts we are just collecting for the original lender.”
It means the money, or at least a portion of it, will go to the original creditor with the collection agencies getting a fee for collecting it. The debt is still owned by the original creditor & while you might see a late or delinquent payment on you credit report, it won't be reported as a collections account.
Collection laws vary by state. Some states have more consumer friendly laws than others. So, what he is saying about what the collectors can or can not do may or may not be true in your state. Which is why it may be worth paying a lawyer for consultation if it is a concern.
What he’s saying is that the debt collectors might be criminals who are scamming people. I remember getting called by them years ago for my own irresponsible lifestyle and I did pay my bills but I could have been scammed by paying them a shady tacked on fee.
The last time i had a collection agent chase me was 10 years ago for a hospital bill for pain killers. the amount was $30. when they rang i said thank you for purchasing my debt, i consider it fully paid for now. and i hung up the phone. never heard from them again
Same. The new collection agency is vicious. I got served with papers during the pandemic and I answered in court within the 15 days. We go to court in September. They have since sent papers demanding that I admit that I owe the debt. When initially contacted, I offered to make payments, but they refused.
Currently in a situation where I tried to use my Army Tuition assistance for university. After finally contacting who i needed and getting it set up, i was told it just takes a little to go through and then it will go through. I dont go to that school anymore and the army never ended up paying the tuition. Now im sent to collections with destroyed credit from it. Im still figuring out how to deal with this all, but people like you are amazing for calming me down. Financial stress and anxiety is like no other.
Awesome points! I had one account in collections and I paid as it was till in the S.O.L. They settled the balance for lower than what I originally owed. It was deleted from my credit report also.
And thank you for getting it right on stating your name and therefore before becoming liable. Biggest myth I deal with. However you are not admitting guilt if you don’t respond to the letter. There could be a lot of reasons. The guilt is always admitted in the signed contract.
Hello, I got a letter from a debt collector where my name and address are correct but I never went to the place it says I went to and it doesn’t have the proper billing on the place’s website? Hopefully someone can assist me with this situation: I had a company send my account to collections after I refused to pay for services they did not supply. I shot down the first collection agency writing the standard letter of dispute. They sold it to another collection agency, who I again shot down. I just received YET ANOTHER demand for payment from a THIRD agency. At the conclusion of my letter of dispute, I insisted they do not sell my information to another organization. I don't know if this will do any good, but just how do you stop this? After a while, I will have spent enough on certified letters to have paid the account debt I'm disputing! :-(
My Apartment Manager is collecting $50 extra every month because of an accedent that occurred (a flood) in my apartment. Though collections has a statute of limitations the collections will stay on your credit report as long as the bill is unpaid. If they take you to court before the statute of limitations is past you will be stuck paying the bill. Also after the statute of limitations has past their are heartless companies that will buy the debt for pennies on the dollar and harass you and lie to you and make threats to you in the hopes you do not know your rights and go ahead and pay them. These people would sell out their mothers for a dollar. A sure fire way to get them to stop calling you is every time tell them you are recording the phone call and then say the date and time as soon as you do.

Start your negotiations with a low ball esp if past the statute of limitations. Worse you can get is a no. It’s worked for me.

My wife had to go in the hospital couple years ago. had a balance of $6K. We paid it down over a year to $3K. The hospital turned it over to a debt collector during the process but we kept paying the hospital instead monthy to get the balance to the current $3k. I'm already paying on a collection account monthly. Should I just continue, would it be best to try to pay it off, or discontinue all together? Would I even be eligible for a payoff discount amount? To many ?'s SORRY. Still learning.
I would not discontinue paying it off since it will be on your credit court for a longer period of time. But I will try to renegotiate the terms if possible. In addition I would also try to get something in writing stating to remove this collection account off your credit for it once it’s paid off.

So I mailed out my Verizon equipment in 2019 and they claim they didn't receive it. I have proof I sent it out and a tracking number but they refuse to follow up on the tracking number and they won't remove it from my credit report but it's not listed as collections.

I have 2 chapter 13’s that are dismissed. The reason I have 2 is bcz I did n+ot use an attorney. I was trying to stop an eviction, but when I went to try to add another month’s rent to the bankruptcy, but the guy filed another one. About a month later, I ended up losing my job. They are scheduled to fall off in January and March 2021. Since I’m looking to purchase a home soon but still there. "They cannot contact you between 8 am and 9 pm." is incorrect. They can only contact you during these hours, but not outside of them.
I didn’t pay them so they’ve take all my impact payments
They can’t contact you at all if you ask them not to, also if you ask them to contact you with only written correspondences they have to do that too. If they don’t you can actually get the debt erased because they aren’t following rules. There are a few exceptions though. You just have to communicate these things with them.
I don't pay collections agencies and I don't care about my credit score, because I already have 3 homes, so screw them!

Yea Navy federal gave me a really high limit. I applied and was denied at first so I got a service from this name below, and I was approved for a capital one. The limit was so small lol but I took it and worked on it. Because if that it helped my credit and I believe that’s what made me finally get approved for navy fed with such a high limit. they're still working on increasing the capital one since it was so low. All in all I’m satisfied.

I Negotiated my own collection payments. I paid it then and within six months I have excellent credit I owed almost 4 to chase I paid 600.00 it went away.

Hello, I have a question about my credit card. I got a credit card with a $300 limit and the minimum I owe is $17.91.
It says: “Minimum Payment Warning: If you make only the minimum payment each period, you will pay more in interest and it will take you longer to pay off your balance. The table is based on your standard minimum payment and does not include any past due and over limit amounts. For example:
If you make no additional charges using this card and each month you pay ... only the minimum payment
You will pay off the balance shown on this statement in about... 1 months
And you will end up paying an estimated total of ... $18.00”
Do I pay $17.91, $18.00, or more than that to avoid interest? And is it best to pay by the statement date or the due date? Or do I split it into paying half by the statement date and the other half by the due date? Also, would it be best to use my credit card every month?
At 34 years old I finally feel ready to settle down long enough to buy a house. Unfortunately due to previous horrible stupid life decisions, I'm forced to start with a zero balance in my savings account. I wrote you earlier but it didn't post so trying again. Look into first time home buyer money you can get into a home dirt cheap that way. I was able to buy a brand new home with only $900 down. FHA loan. Ask around at different banks & mortgage lenders for first time home buyer money it's usually easier to get in the first part of the year. Any lender can pre-qualified you too, they'll let you know what you can afford . Fha loans are a littler easier to get if your credits not perfect. Only need a score of around 620 or so.
Saving and investing
Savings is great however it isn't enough. Put just as much effort & energy into fix/get-ing credit. Your credit score is the only thing that can get you the best Interest rates "deals". Credit builder, secured credit etc. A dwn pyt is just too seal the deal. Doesn't make as much of a difference, you'd think.
My brother in law had the lowest interest rate & payed off his jeep earlier than my bro. My brother thought a big dwn pyt would result in a good interest rate along with options. It was definitely a rude awaking.

I wish I would've known this 5 years ago. I let a Sprint account go into collections, and I started getting harassed by the collection agencies during weekend drills. I did manage to get the money I owed to Sprint... I just went directly to them and settled the account myself, telling the collectors to pound sand. I removed the collection a few years later when I started to get into credit rehab, but I know it could've been worse.
Still... always good to know the tools you have for a given situation. I appreciate the work you do, from one vet to another.

Can someone tell me why is it that when I ask the collection agencies that if they bought off the account they respond with “we don’t buy debts we are just collecting for the original lender.”
It means the money, or at least a portion of it, will go to the original creditor with the collection agencies getting a fee for collecting it. The debt is still owned by the original creditor & while you might see a late or delinquent payment on you credit report, it won't be reported as a collections account.

Collection laws vary by state. Some states have more consumer friendly laws than others. So, what he is saying about what the collectors can or can not do may or may not be true in your state. Which is why it may be worth paying a lawyer for consultation if it is a concern.

What he’s saying is that the debt collectors might be criminals who are scamming people. I remember getting called by them years ago for my own irresponsible lifestyle and I did pay my bills but I could have been scammed by paying them a shady tacked on fee.

Same. The new collection agency is vicious. I got served with papers during the pandemic and I answered in court within the 15 days. We go to court in September. They have since sent papers demanding that I admit that I owe the debt. When initially contacted, I offered to make payments, but they refused.

Currently in a situation where I tried to use my Army Tuition assistance for university. After finally contacting who i needed and getting it set up, i was told it just takes a little to go through and then it will go through. I dont go to that school anymore and the army never ended up paying the tuition. Now im sent to collections with destroyed credit from it. Im still figuring out how to deal with this all, but people like you are amazing for calming me down. Financial stress and anxiety is like no other.

Hopefully someone can assist me with this situation: I had a company send my account to collections after I refused to pay for services they did not supply. I shot down the first collection agency writing the standard letter of dispute. They sold it to another collection agency, who I again shot down. I just received YET ANOTHER demand for payment from a THIRD agency. At the conclusion of my letter of dispute, I insisted they do not sell my information to another organization. I don't know if this will do any good, but just how do you stop this? After a while, I will have spent enough on certified letters to have paid the account debt I'm disputing! :-(

She said it cost close to $5000 for the company to get up the water and dry the carpet and replace the padding in a 2bdrm 900 sq ft. My question is, can she collect from me? Or shouldn't I be paying the company that did the work. I just need some answers.😩

Collection agencies CAN contact you from 8AM-9PM. They CANNOT contact you AFTER 9PM or BEFORE 8AM IN YOUR TIME ZONE.
Though collections has a statute of limitations the collections will stay on your credit report as long as the bill is unpaid. If they take you to court before the statute of limitations is past you will be stuck paying the bill. Also after the statute of limitations has past their are heartless companies that will buy the debt for pennies on the dollar and harass you and lie to you and make threats to you in the hopes you do not know your rights and go ahead and pay them. These people would sell out their mothers for a dollar. A sure fire way to get them to stop calling you is every time tell them you are recording the phone call and then say the date and time as soon as you do.
