I have 2 chapter 13’s that are dismissed. The reason I have 2 is bcz I did n+ot use an attorney. I was trying to stop an eviction, but when I went to try to add another month’s rent to the bankruptcy, but the guy filed another one. About a month later, I ended up losing my job. If the company I owed money to, "sells" my debt to a third party, why would I owe the third party money I never agreed to repay or signed a contract with?
They can’t contact you at all if you ask them not to, also if you ask them to contact you with only written correspondences they have to do that too. If they don’t you can actually get the debt erased because they aren’t following rules. There are a few exceptions though. You just have to communicate these things with them.
Currently in a situation where I tried to use my Army Tuition assistance for university. After finally contacting who i needed and getting it set up, i was told it just takes a little to go through and then it will go through. I dont go to that school anymore and the army never ended up paying the tuition. Now im sent to collections with destroyed credit from it. Im still figuring out how to deal with this all, but people like you are amazing for calming me down. Financial stress and anxiety is like no other.

I wish I would've known this 5 years ago. I let a Sprint account go into collections, and I started getting harassed by the collection agencies during weekend drills. I did manage to get the money I owed to Sprint... I just went directly to them and settled the account myself, telling the collectors to pound sand. I removed the collection a few years later when I started to get into credit rehab, but I know it could've been worse. Still... always good to know the tools you have for a given situation. The last time i had a collection agent chase me was 10 years ago for a hospital bill for pain killers. the amount was $30. when they rang i said thank you for purchasing my debt, i consider it fully paid for now. and i hung up the phone. never heard from them again

I Negotiated my own collection payments. I paid it then and within six months I have excellent credit I owed almost 4 to chase I paid 600.00 it went away.

Yea Navy federal gave me a really high limit. I applied and was denied at first so I got a service from this name below, and I was approved for a capital one. The limit was so small lol but I took it and worked on it. Because if that it helped my credit and I believe that’s what made me finally get approved for navy fed with such a high limit. they're still working on increasing the capital one since it was so low. All in all I’m satisfied.
Everything you said is correct 👍 I’m in the state of Ohio & the Statue of limitations is (6) years on credit card debt,s My advice to all would be to check your state & see what the statue of limitations is . Every state. Is different. Once the statue of limitations is up or beyond it the creditor can’t do anything.

That’s good, but remember that it doesn’t do a lot to your credit score if you settle or pay it off AND they won’t remove it from your credit report. It still shows up on your credit report, AND it resets the statute of limitations of suing AND reporting, so your score is going to take a hit for the first few months. The only way this will benefit you is if they completely delete the entry from your report. A lot of legit collectors are doing that because the consumer has smartened up to how paying a collection doesn’t benefit them, especially if the SOL expires. The only way legit collectors are getting their money is to agree to delete the item from the credit report.

Collection laws vary by state. Some states have more consumer friendly laws than others. So, what he is saying about what the collectors can or can not do may or may not be true in your state. Which is why it may be worth paying a lawyer for consultation if it is a concern.

At 34 years old I finally feel ready to settle down long enough to buy a house. Unfortunately due to previous horrible stupid life decisions, I'm forced to start with a zero balance in my savings account. I wrote you earlier but it didn't post so trying again. Look into first time home buyer money you can get into a home dirt cheap that way. I was able to buy a brand new home with only $900 down. FHA loan. Ask around at different banks & mortgage lenders for first time home buyer money it's usually easier to get in the first part of the year. Any lender can pre-qualified you too, they'll let you know what you can afford . Fha loans are a littler easier to get if your credits not perfect. Only need a score of around 620 or so.
Savings is great however it isn't enough. Put just as much effort & energy into fix/get-ing credit. Your credit score is the only thing that can get you the best Interest rates "deals". Credit builder, secured credit etc. A dwn pyt is just too seal the deal. Doesn't make as much of a difference, you'd think. My brother in law had the lowest interest rate & payed off his jeep earlier than my bro. My brother thought a big dwn pyt would result in a good interest rate along with options. It was definitely a rude awaking.

It says: “Minimum Payment Warning: If you make only the minimum payment each period, you will pay more in interest and it will take you longer to pay off your balance. For example: If you make no additional charges using this card and each month you pay ... only the minimum payment You will pay off the balance shown on this statement in about... 1 months And you will end up paying an estimated total of ... $18.00” Do I pay $17.91, $18.00, or more than that to avoid interest? And is it best to pay by the statement date or the due date? Or do I split it into paying half by the statement date and the other half by the due date? Also, would it be best to use my credit card every month?
Can someone tell me why is it that when I ask the collection agencies that if they bought off the account they respond with “we don’t buy debts we are just collecting for the original lender.”
It means the money, or at least a portion of it, will go to the original creditor with the collection agencies getting a fee for collecting it. The debt is still owned by the original creditor & while you might see a late or delinquent payment on you credit report, it won't be reported as a collections account.
My former husband and I have a Vegas timeshare that is in collections. It's actually hurting his credit I think, but I've been doing research on what we should do about it. We were on a payment plan and then they reneged on it and wanted us to pay way more then agreed. Yes a lady called me about 4 months ago and actually threatened me with jail.

Been thru that, never did, never will. You demand they stop calling, they have to abide.went through this back in 1999. Went to a bankruptcy agency, they work with you. Got awesome advice on what needed to be done to track your finances. After clearing the probate period, I have never stop using the tracking program they provided. I am now retired with healthy pensions and savings.

When i do my research some people say its better on your credit when paid in full however others says its the same since its already a negative mark and is better to settle. The only importance is getting it removed. I called and they said they cant remove it from my credit report but will report as paid. VERY well done ! I say this with 40+ years in mortgage finance & banking working with credit bureaus. Different models and parameters are used by different industries but this name below info is pretty much universal. If you're trying to max your credit scores, there is a happy medium between too many credit cards and none. Too many cards with zero balnce may actually hurt you in some cases. Even if you do not use them, you have a potential. To always pay cash & still have cards doesn't help your scores as well
Hello, I got a letter from a debt collector where my name and address are correct but I never went to the place it says I went to and it doesn’t have the proper billing on the place’s website? You know what I can do with this, and I should never have that account in that place to begin with because I never went there.
Anyone who knows that is you let it go to collections (depending on your state) you will end up in court and with a nice big hefty wage garnishment & embarrassment as a result. You could even end up in jail.

And thank you for getting it right on stating your name and therefore before becoming liable. Biggest myth I deal with. However you are not admitting guilt if you don’t respond to the letter. There could be a lot of reasons. The guilt is always admitted in the signed contract.

So I did an installment plan for a product. I defaulted on my payments because I lost my job and before my account got sent to collections it closed (as it should) before I could receive the second and last part of my product. I told the collectors that and they said that I still have to pay in full is that true? I also checked my credit report and I don’t even see where the account was closed or sent to collections I just see when it was opened. It depends on who's holding the debt and what they're willing to do. If you make a settlement it will be reflected on your credit report as a paid settled account. That beats a charge off that was never resolved. That sure is a better reflection on the debtor and any possible future credit granting.
Great video. I love watching your TH-cam videos. I just want to make one small correction. I am an accountant for a financial institution that issues credit cards. Once a loan becomes 90 days past due all income accruals stop and any previously accrued income will have been reversed back to the last date of payment. I am pretty sure this is a universal standard that conforms with GAAP. Therefore, nobody is paying taxes on stale accounts even if they have not yet been charged off. I had a collections contact me on a phone bill back when I was young. I told them “piss off im not enriching you off my downfall. I’ll pay Verizon, not you “ They say “sir they have transfered it to us and want us to handle it” I said “ still no, I’ll deal with them. Your not getting a dime “ I called Verizon and ended up paying Verizon instead. This was years and years ago Collections was mad because they just bought debt for no reason lol
Let’s say a collection was removed by disputing it through the credit bureaus.. I wonder what it should be done in this case because collection removal from a credit report it doesn’t mean the cancellation of the alleged debt. Even though people can think the debt is not validated since the credit bureaus removed it. I wonder what to do in these cases. Thanks

As a former collector I have to say, right off the bat, at 2:36 you gave incorrect info. Collectors may ONLY contact you by telephone between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm, unless you give permission for contact outside those hours, if you work 3rd ahift for example. As for calling at work, it depends on state laws. T&ere are different criteria for contacting someone place of employment. Some states require you to wait 30 days after placement before job calls. Some forbid it, and some have no restrictions. Check YOUR state.
I'm not sure what should do with my Cc debt. Apparently i have got about almost 27k Cc debt that id like to get rid off. I stopped making payments in 2019. my question is regarding the collection agency, are they even allowed to call you when you never ever signed a wet signature contract stating you are doing business with them ?
My Mom is being harassed two years after my Dad passed for a credit card debt of my Fathers. He had no debt, I was her POA and called both card companies. They shut both of them and she was not on the accounts. I now have to jump through hoops to do the letter etc as she is 90 and bedridden. It is a shady company that literally tries to get money from dead peoples relatives. He died two years ago!
Hopefully someone can assist me with this situation: I had a company send my account to collections after I refused to pay for services they did not supply. I shot down the first collection agency writing the standard letter of dispute. They sold it to another collection agency, who I again shot down. I just received YET ANOTHER demand for payment from a THIRD agency. At the conclusion of my letter of dispute, I insisted they do not sell my information to another organization. I don't know if this will do any good, but just how do you stop this? After a while, I will have spent enough on certified letters to have paid the account debt I'm disputing! :-(

I have 2 chapter 13’s that are dismissed. The reason I have 2 is bcz I did n+ot use an attorney. I was trying to stop an eviction, but when I went to try to add another month’s rent to the bankruptcy, but the guy filed another one. About a month later, I ended up losing my job. "They cannot contact you between 8 am and 9 pm." is incorrect. They can only contact you during these hours, but not outside of them.
I didn’t pay them so they’ve take all my impact payments
They can’t contact you at all if you ask them not to, also if you ask them to contact you with only written correspondences they have to do that too. If they don’t you can actually get the debt erased because they aren’t following rules. There are a few exceptions though. You just have to communicate these things with them.
I don't pay collections agencies and I don't care about my credit score, because I already have 3 homes, so screw them!

Currently in a situation where I tried to use my Army Tuition assistance for university. After finally contacting who i needed and getting it set up, i was told it just takes a little to go through and then it will go through. I dont go to that school anymore and the army never ended up paying the tuition. Now im sent to collections with destroyed credit from it. I wish I would've known this 5 years ago. I let a Sprint account go into collections, and I started getting harassed by the collection agencies during weekend drills. I did manage to get the money I owed to Sprint... I just went directly to them and settled the account myself, telling the collectors to pound sand. I removed the collection a few years later when I started to get into credit rehab, but I know it could've been worse.
Still... always good to know the tools you have for a given situation. I appreciate the work you do, from one vet to another.

I Negotiated my own collection payments. I paid it then and within six months I have excellent credit I owed almost 4 to chase I paid 600.00 it went away.

Yea Navy federal gave me a really high limit. I applied and was denied at first so I got a service from this name below, and I was approved for a capital one. The limit was so small lol but I took it and worked on it. Because if that it helped my credit and I believe that’s what made me finally get approved for navy fed with such a high limit. they're still working on increasing the capital one since it was so low. All in all I’m satisfied.

Everything you said is correct 👍 I’m in the state of Ohio & the Statue of limitations is (6) years on credit card debt,s My advice to all would be to check your state & see what the statue of limitations is . Every state. Is different. Once the statue of limitations is up or beyond it the creditor can’t do anything.

That’s good, but remember that it doesn’t do a lot to your credit score if you settle or pay it off AND they won’t remove it from your credit report. It still shows up on your credit report, AND it resets the statute of limitations of suing AND reporting, so your score is going to take a hit for the first few months. The only way this will benefit you is if they completely delete the entry from your report. A lot of legit collectors are doing that because the consumer has smartened up to how paying a collection doesn’t benefit them, especially if the SOL expires. The only way legit collectors are getting their money is to agree to delete the item from the credit report.

Collection laws vary by state. Some states have more consumer friendly laws than others. So, what he is saying about what the collectors can or can not do may or may not be true in your state. Which is why it may be worth paying a lawyer for consultation if it is a concern.

At 34 years old I finally feel ready to settle down long enough to buy a house. I wrote you earlier but it didn't post so trying again. Look into first time home buyer money you can get into a home dirt cheap that way. I was able to buy a brand new home with only $900 down. FHA loan. Ask around at different banks & mortgage lenders for first time home buyer money it's usually easier to get in the first part of the year. Any lender can pre-qualified you too, they'll let you know what you can afford . Fha loans are a littler easier to get if your credits not perfect. Only need a score of around 620 or so.
Saving and investing
Savings is great however it isn't enough. Put just as much effort & energy into fix/get-ing credit. Your credit score is the only thing that can get you the best Interest rates "deals". Credit builder, secured credit etc. A dwn pyt is just too seal the deal. Doesn't make as much of a difference, you'd think.
My brother in law had the lowest interest rate & payed off his jeep earlier than my bro. My brother thought a big dwn pyt would result in a good interest rate along with options. It was definitely a rude awaking.

It says: “Minimum Payment Warning: If you make only the minimum payment each period, you will pay more in interest and it will take you longer to pay off your balance. The table is based on your standard minimum payment and does not include any past due and over limit amounts. For example:

You will pay off the balance shown on this statement in about... 1 months
And you will end up paying an estimated total of ... $18.00”
Do I pay $17.91, $18.00, or more than that to avoid interest? And is it best to pay by the statement date or the due date? Or do I split it into paying half by the statement date and the other half by the due date? Also, would it be best to use my credit card every month?
Can someone tell me why is it that when I ask the collection agencies that if they bought off the account they respond with “we don’t buy debts we are just collecting for the original lender.”
It means the money, or at least a portion of it, will go to the original creditor with the collection agencies getting a fee for collecting it. The debt is still owned by the original creditor & while you might see a late or delinquent payment on you credit report, it won't be reported as a collections account.
My former husband and I have a Vegas timeshare that is in collections. It's actually hurting his credit I think, but I've been doing research on what we should do about it. We were on a payment plan and then they reneged on it and wanted us to pay way more then agreed. Yes a lady called me about 4 months ago and actually threatened me with jail.

Got awesome advice on what needed to be done to track your finances. After clearing the probate period, I have never stop using the tracking program they provided. My Apartment Manager is collecting $50 extra every month because of an accedent that occurred (a flood) in my apartment. When i do my research some people say its better on your credit when paid in full however others says its the same since its already a negative mark and is better to settle. The only importance is getting it removed. I called and they said they cant remove it from my credit report but will report as paid. VERY well done ! I say this with 40+ years in mortgage finance & banking working with credit bureaus. Different models and parameters are used by different industries but this name below info is pretty much universal. If you're trying to max your credit scores, there is a happy medium between too many credit cards and none. Too many cards with zero balnce may actually hurt you in some cases. Even if you do not use them, you have a potential. To always pay cash & still have cards doesn't help your scores as well

Anyone who knows that is you let it go to collections (depending on your state) you will end up in court and with a nice big hefty wage garnishment & embarrassment as a result. You could even end up in jail.

I have a question, if the debt was removed from your credit report do you still have to pay it.
And thank you for getting it right on stating your name and therefore before becoming liable. Biggest myth I deal with. However you are not admitting guilt if you don’t respond to the letter. There could be a lot of reasons. The guilt is always admitted in the signed contract.

We’re renting a guest house at the back of the main house. We applied for rental assistance last time it was available in LA. They prioritized apartment address than residential. They never replied at all with our application. My wife & I lost both our jobs and score went bad, I paid Lexington Law to help me fix my credit for months and they did not fix anything except my attitude about how "good" they are. So I did an installment plan for a product. I defaulted on my payments because I lost my job and before my account got sent to collections it closed (as it should) before I could receive the second and last part of my product. I told the collectors that and they said that I still have to pay in full is that true? I also checked my credit report and I don’t even see where the account was closed or sent to collections I just see when it was opened. Is this something I should speak with a legal representative about?

It depends on who's holding the debt and what they're willing to do. If you make a settlement it will be reflected on your credit report as a paid settled account. That beats a charge off that was never resolved. That sure is a better reflection on the debtor and any possible future credit granting.
Great video. I love watching your TH-cam videos. I just want to make one small correction. I am an accountant for a financial institution that issues credit cards. Once a loan becomes 90 days past due all income accruals stop and any previously accrued income will have been reversed back to the last date of payment. I am pretty sure this is a universal standard that conforms with GAAP. Therefore, nobody is paying taxes on stale accounts even if they have not yet been charged off.

Let’s say a collection was removed by disputing it through the credit bureaus.. I wonder what it should be done in this case because collection removal from a credit report it doesn’t mean the cancellation of the alleged debt. Even though people can think the debt is not validated since the credit bureaus removed it. I wonder what to do in these cases. Thanks

As a former collector I have to say, right off the bat, at 2:36 you gave incorrect info. Collectors may ONLY contact you by telephone between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm, unless you give permission for contact outside those hours, if you work 3rd ahift for example.
As for calling at work, it depends on state laws. T&ere are different criteria for contacting someone place of employment. Some states require you to wait 30 days after placement before job calls. Some forbid it, and some have no restrictions. Check YOUR state.
I'm not sure what should do with my Cc debt. Apparently i have got about almost 27k Cc debt that id like to get rid off. I stopped making payments in 2019. Ever since it has negative impact on my fico score. It has not gone to collections yet. My questions is what would do to pay that Cc debt at the same have my fico score improved quickly.

So a question that I have . I have a charge off from 4 yrs ago wasn’t ever sent to collections . Never received any monthly statements showing I had to pay every month still . Now all of a sudden they are calling me ten times a day for the past month and threatened to send it to collections .

Workplace calls aren’t illegally, but many states have stipulations on how many calls can be made.
my question is regarding the collection agency, are they even allowed to call you when you never ever signed a wet signature contract stating you are doing business with them ?

My Mom is being harassed two years after my Dad passed for a credit card debt of my Fathers. He had no debt, I was her POA and called both card companies. They shut both of them and she was not on the accounts. I now have to jump through hoops to do the letter etc as she is 90 and bedridden. It is a shady company that literally tries to get money from dead peoples relatives. He died two years ago!

Hopefully someone can assist me with this situation: I had a company send my account to collections after I refused to pay for services they did not supply. I shot down the first collection agency writing the standard letter of dispute. They sold it to another collection agency, who I again shot down. I just received YET ANOTHER demand for payment from a THIRD agency. At the conclusion of my letter of dispute, I insisted they do not sell my information to another organization. I don't know if this will do any good, but just how do you stop this? After a while, I will have spent enough on certified letters to have paid the account debt I'm disputing! :-(
