I’m the type of person that doesn’t mind laundry. I have a system/routine similar to you Sophie. FYI..the intro of the video has no sound for part of it.

I have separated laundry bins for everything. Good clothes, Yard clothes, whites, towels, underwear, and hand towels.

Thank you for addressing the “mental load” of the laundry process.

I used to have a laundry day & bigger bins, but my Hubby took over doing the laundry & he does it when a smaller bin is full about every 2 to 3 days. He likes it & I don't have to worry about it except I do fold it all. It works. 😊

That's a great laundry system you've established. I'm one of those unfortunate souls who has to go down several sets of stairs to get to a laundry room in the basement so I'd rather do at least 2 loads (with days off in between) than 1 load every day. Each load of laundry is 6 trips down and up the stairs (or 3 round trips lol) and, if I tack on 1 extra load, it only adds 1 more round trip.

Having things organized and having products you like makes it easier and less of a drudgery to do laundry. Your laundry room looks great. I don't mind doing laundry if I'm not too busy. I do regular clothes over the weekend and then towels and rags throughout the week.

I might be in the small minority here is my system that I developed over time. This might sound way too rational and structured, but this is applying ideas in engineering and assembly line lol.
Two principles I operate on are: 1. simplicity favors regularity 2. make the common case fast
For laundry I do the following:
    1) Reduce the color palette for clothing (buy clothes that are the same in color palette)
    2) Reduce the amount of various types of fabric care requirements (buy fabrics that are machine washable or dry clean, and nothing else)
    3) Increase the number of laundry baskets to help with pre-sorting - (lights, dark, towels, sheets, rags) I have a total of 14 baskets lol.
    4) Have enough clothing/towels/sheets to last multiple weeks - increasing the time between needing to do laundry (also provides more flexibility depending on what happens in life)
By doing the above during laundry days the following benefits are:
    1) You fully utilize the capacity in the washer
    2) Back to back loads are easier to start since you already did a lot of sorting
    3) There less "types" of laundry to do since there is a limited set of clothing colors and care requirements
    4) During laundry days - try your best to do back to back loads 24/7 until your laundry baskets are empty to finish quicker (keep both machines busy as much as you can)
My laundry day is Fri-Sun every few weeks. By having clothing/towels/sheets to last you multiple weeks, you can shift around laundry days up to a limit. If your total stash lasts you 4 weeks, you can do laundry at 2 weeks if you have time, or push it to next week. :)
