Johnny Knoxville! is back! great build! Im doing UTV 4 -stroke v-twins in my aircraft 800cc at 65 hp, love that phazer, inspiring me to do a phazer someday.
I live in commerce twp. Pretty close to where you are. I am saving for a firefly now and can't wait to get it. I live on a lake, and I want to get floats to use the lake as my runway. If all goes well, I will be getting it this summer. I have already built a shed on the edge of the lake to keep the plane inside. Keep up the great videos! I have been watching you for a while. It makes me want to get out there and get flying.
Very nice! I flew a Cobra Ultralight, made by Advance Aviation, Cyuna engine, and always wanted to be able to land/takeoff from our family's field, but it was a little too tight. I hope to find a good STOL-ish capable LSA someday. I've watched alot of related vids, and Kolb sure seems to make great planes. My first 'discovery flight', in an LSA, was a tandem Kolb, I forget the name Great vid, and educational too. Thanks. Sub.
Very cool. I take it the Phaser engine blows past the Firefly's 103 weight limit, BRS or not? Currently searching for an affordable used Firefly. However, like Trent Palmer ruined the affordable used Kitfox market, Ben is doing it to the used Firefly market. Whining aside, you both make for fine ambassadors for the respective aircraft. Keep up the good work.
Ben. Did you ever get the all in weight of the Phazer? I'm looking for a 4 stroke replacement for a Hirth on a Aerolite 103 and think it would be doable.
Hi Ben, I have been enjoying your videos very much. I heard you say in a video that the firestar was down waiting for a condition inspection. I was hoping you could comment about what a challenge or hassle it is to have the experimental version vs. the ultralight. I am an experienced pilot and have owned a Vans RV7A in the past but really like the Kolb design with the folding wings. There is a firestar kit for sale near me that is really making me think!
Hi! I do enjoy the extra freedom that part 103 allows. Depending on the location or mission of your flying, might determine more sense for one or the other. If your not familiar with Far part 103, look them over is my suggestion. Can't go wrong with a Kolb!
How do you get away without ADSB out, seems like that would be dangerous for GA planes that think they can see everything! I think even small drones have to have it now?@@bkairys
take your plane up 1000ft or more to get a real idea of its slow flight characteristics, get the nose high and slowly increase power to full, The extreme nose high angle will be alarming and downright scary but I bet your airplane will almost hover with enough practice!
@@bkairys I’ve considered this setup. What is your typical operation gross weight? Any particular brand of brake? What did it take to mount them to the Asusa wheels? Excellent content and production! Thanks
Am considering my first aircraft, will a firefly accommodate a 6 foot 4 pilot comfortably, can't find anything about this anywhere about any ultralight. Thank you
Without mountains, I'd be lost! High engine, high center of mass, tippy on braking. A lower engine with belt drive to prop probably not as reliable. Do you use slips to slow airspeed for landing?
Very cool machine and great flying, I am a big fan.
Cool video, excellent narration, content etc. Thanks🙂
The editing of this video was 👍
Nice job Ben!

C'mon now, he doesn't look anything like Johnny Knoxville, and definitely not wreckless, nor silly

Kevin, do you know if anyone offers a kit for the floats or where you get plans for them?
Good job Ben! The Firestar is STOL capable, but I think the Firefly would be even better!
Maybe with 80hp! MY firefly takes about twice as far to land and takeoff. Short 22ft wings to blame.
Awesome job Sir
Nothing out performs a Kolb!!

Nice -- your more than ready for Aircraft carriers 🤣

Glad to see it all coming together. Flaps would be hilarious! You'll be dropping it on a helipad before long.

Great video!
The camouflage cargo shorts 👍
Since the engine is very powerful thrusting from above the center line does the nose get pushed down more while under full power?
Heavy elevator?

Quite impressive. Is there anybody out there putting the YG2 phazer motor together for aviation use and sale as of today?
I wonder if flaps or flaperons are a possibility?
Got some info on your VG installation? Locations? Spacing? Etc.
Followed this method- www.jackbhart.com/firefly/firefly18.html
Great job Ben!! Since I am building /re building a Firestar II...would like to see the trim details...
Me 2. Flying F S2 and really would like elevator trim…

Nice! Beautiful place to fly! What airport is that?

It does slip, but pretty much uneeded in this extremely draggy airframe.
Hi,Ben kairys . I'm in Vietnam, I can't buy it here, please help me, your wing is in use, how much did you buy it?
Hey Ben, I live near Kalamazoo Mi. How close are you to my area? Love to help if your needing any.
