    It’s the bike we’ve all been waiting for - the 2024 BMW R1300GS.
    Replacing a bike that considered by many to be the perfect bike, it’s certainly got some big shoes to fill, so how does it stack up?
    BikeSocial's Adam' Chad' Child spent a couple of days in the Spanish countryside around Malaga, riding both on and off road, to find out.

    I’ve no doubt that the new GS is an absolutely fantastic bike, but Bennetts, this sounds so much like a paid review, the reviewer has not found a single fault with the bike, not even a nitpick - you’re risking undermining your whole channel.
    Why doesn’t the bike have illuminated switch gear ?
    Why was the off-road segment so short, it didn’t tell us anything meaningful.
    I’ll be booking a test ride next year as I’m questioning whether to upgrade my current 1200GSA, but I’ll be checking out other reviews for a balanced opinion.

      They are lovely and their values will be rock bottom when the next new registration comes around in March. But it then as the economy will be on its knees.

    One of the first things I did on my r1250 was replace the handle bar plastic lever guards with a set of metal Barkbusters. Now I see that the r1300 has the turn signals built into the hand guards. So watch what happens as people drop their bikes and break the hand/lever guard/turn signal. I can already hear the complaints about how much that will cost.

      Just saying, whatever the cost of the new bike, people won’t be happy when replacing a hand guard/ turn signal. For me, I replaced the plastic guards with metal guards because I’ve broken a clutch lever, way out in the middle of nowhere and it was a long trip home.

      @@davideskelin8266 Shh, don't tell anyone but the GS is really made for the street. That's why it comes with street tires, no crash bars, a big windshield, 145 hp, and turn signals in the handguards, etc. Just get the enduro package if you want conventional turn signals.

    this performance jump from the 1250 to 1300 is akin to the jump BMW made back in 2005 from the 1150 to the 1200. for those who don't recall, the 1200 was "narrow", "light", and "fast" and yet there was still alot to like about the previous 1150 since it's extra weight and extra mass gave it less high frequency "buzz".

    Well finally! When all the reviews said that the 1200 was perfect along came the 1250 and fixed all the 'faults' that the reviewers forgot to mention. Now the 1250 was the perfect best bike ever but thankfully the 1300 has come along to solve all the issues of the 1250.
    All flippancy aside it is better looking. It's almost light enough for me to consider ( always preferred the XR and I'm not a huge fan of IL4's ) But I will take issue on 2 things - A mechanical screen has got to be a better option as why would you add complexity to something so simple? Something that is more expensive, more weight and gonna fail eventually. "Almost all..." people will choose the ESA - well this is the issue isn't it, journo's view it as a loan bike which they can give back at any time - would anyone doing real miles and wanting to keep it for 100k ( only 7-10 years at nearly £20k BTW ) I would definitely be inclined to keep to mech suspension and upgrade accordingly ( like I have with my Duc ). I know an ex Bahnstormer sales manager who told me how 'they would say' that if you bought a base non esa BM then they wouldn't have it back at the end of the PCP. At least they're reliable....LMFAO

    For me, its small. Feels a lot less substantial than my current 1250GS. Maybe that’s the intention but as a distance comfort tourer I can’t see me swapping. Be interesting to see the GSA / 1400 next year

  • @johnmacdonald1878
    @johnmacdonald1878 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I have a 1200. I like it it works for me.
    At some point I will trade up to a newer lower mileage bike. Almost certainly a GS. Which one?
    It appears the 1300 may still have the features I like. I chose the GS for its long distance comfort and its versatility. Sometimes I just ride around town and go to Starbucks.
    Sometimes I ride it a bit harder and put it away wet and dirty.
    The 1300 might even be better. To shiny. I will wait for a used one. With the protection.
    I liked my 20lt tank and used almost its full range. I didn’t want the added weight of a 30lt tank.

    It sounds like a great bike, but it's going to take me a minute to get my head around it. The 1250 seemed perfect. It also seems like they are trying to make it so you have to buy their bags instead of having options, maybe I'm wrong. They won't sell you a service manual either.

    I understand the tank is 1 liter smaller..so hows the range? That's the biggest gripe on my 2022 1250gs. When your really pushing the highway speeds, range really suffers. Now they make a new one with a smaller fuel tank? Not for me.

Is the quickshifter now standard on the base model (thinking about the rental market that mostly uses the base model)? No mechanical problems and it's great for touring,,, even in heavy rain. 😉 The DCT is really nice to have. (my 3rd Honda with DCT) Happy so far with the NT1100. My friends ride GS's and I ride just as fast and far and the NT1100 performance is pretty good considering it's "only" 100hp. Seems enough actually. 😁 I also use Android Auto 90% of the time. So Google maps and Spotify are enjoyable for long trips. I average about 22km/liter or about 50 mpg US and I get over 400km per tank. 👍 So far so good. I traded my BMW F900XR and I don't regret it. • @MrBeracah
    @MrBeracah 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How is 12kg a massive weight change. Would be hardly noticeable. 30kg would be a noticeable change in weight. Please quote wetweight in future as dry weight is meaningless in practical terms. I have been told the gearbox is now below the engine which suggests to me the c of g which is an important consideration will be higher ie more top heavy, why no mention of direct figures comparison with the older 1250. All these little elements you mention are only more things to go wrong. Thks

  • @bernhtp
    @bernhtp 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Have you seen whether there is new luggage for the 1300GS? One gripe I have with that on the 1250 is its weight relative to, say, the ABS plastic paniers and top box on the S1000XR, which are substantially lighter and sleeker. Even when wearing my riding gloves, carrying the heavy GS paniers from bike to hotel room painfully dug into my hands. Their design harkens me to the Tom Hanks’ luggage in Joe and the Volcano.

    • @KNR6292
      @KNR6292 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have those plastic type bags on my Multistrada, and if you fall over or crash...its ridiculous $$$$ to fix. I mean absurd.
      I suggest a big soft luggage setup. They make these huge one piece kits that drape like a passenger, and also modular systems. But basically soft luggage is king because we all have parking lot falls and a lowside is not the most unheard of thing, ya know?

    • @bernhtp
      @bernhtp 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KNR6292 It gives you a big incentive not to drop the bike. A real crash will break any panier or top box. I want something functional, not weighing a ton that dig grooves into your fingers when you carry it. I like the XR's plastic paniers - lighter, more aerodynamic and functional. The ones on the GS are overkill and dysfunctional IMO.

    I don't know why I'm watching this, the GS hasn't ever appealed to me. For me bikes are supposed to be exciting, to be interesting to have character.
    The GS is, and always has been a great bike, but for me, because it's such an all rounder and can just do everything well it makes it numb to me, makes it boring.
    Id rather have something less good, if that makes sence.
    This to me is basically the bike equivelant of a VW golf GTD. It can do everything well and there's nothing more you need, but exactly because of that it simply doesn't have any appeal.

    Progress: No tail light, an electrically-adjustable screen (I’ve never once changed my screen height once I found the position to minimise buffeting), a 12Kg weight saving that doesn’t include the centre stand and with the lithium battery as standard, 1L smaller tank, no braided brake lines, adjustable ride height that’s identical to a low seat with an indistinguishable handling difference and yet more pointless tech (which will go wrong, and will be BMW prices to fix) to ensure you can get to Starbucks even faster, and even safer. When the LC came out, did the TU models suddenly vanish? No, they held their prices very well in the used market. And that was an evolution. This is not an adventure bike, it’s closer to a scooter. It’s lost most of what gave it the identity of a GS. I’m sure the PCP fanboys will lap it up. No thanks!
