At around 26:00 I show how to bring back the reverb, but the right way would be to just connect the THRU output of Unmeld to the input of Meld.
Another thing, if you want to see the effects of the LP and HP filters of the channels on the EQ module, you'll have to set them (in the right-click menu) to pre-insert.

you can also monitor HPF or LPF filters settings at the EqMaster analyzer, just make sure that Filter option (right-click menu) set to Pre-insert in the main MindMeld mixer module.
Thanks! Yeah, it was this and the THRU output on UNMELD that I missed, but it's all already in the description :)
These fundaments should everybody know before they start with f. e. Izotope Ozone and Fabfilter, so clear explaind by Omri that it gives a more to the point overview of mixing and mastering, i have followed a paid course @Underdog that also included mixing and mastering, at some point i was really lost in there maze of detailed possibilities and track jumping that i did not know anymore what was essential, and these are call them self pros. Like Omri say's at the beginning that he is not expert, but gives a great understandable tutorial in 30 min!, so it was the opposite in the paid course of 30 2h lessons . Thank you Omri! Kris.
Hey, man, I really appreciate it and I'm happy I could help :)
0:32 feel free to pause the video and download it ... no youtuber said that ever ... u are such a top quality person ... oooohhh yeaa... ❤❤
Well, that's the beauty of VCV, everyone can download it and use it :) Cheers!
Mindmelds modules are exceptional, as you are :) Many thanks for making me smile!
Yeah, they're beautiful... Thanks and cheers!
dat funky disclaimer groove 0:15
Thank you so much! I have never really understood mixing and can barely hear the difference between the start and finish. I have picked up a lot from you to get into it though. If nothing else having a go and not overthinking decisions is the best tip.
Yeah, sometimes we forget that the vibe is more important than the sound so we overdue things and kill the spirit of the music... Cheers!
your tutorials have helped me understand so much, especially the way sounds work. it helped me realize the real power of modular synthesis! can't wait to experiment and learn, its so much fun and a great way to do what i love doing!
That's great, thanks so much!
Thank you! Great tutorial. The info on mixing was awesome and the added bonus was being able to see your workflow and organization. It would be be good to see a detailed tutorial on WF and organization!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you! And yes, those are great ideas :)
Wow, what a coincidence. Mixing and volume settings is the current topic that I am very interested in at the moment. Thanks a lot for making a video about it.
Hey, that's great :) Thanks!
Man your videos are fantastic! I've only just discovered your channel and learned so much.
Hey, thanks so much!
This is so helpful thanks Omri and thanks to all at Mind Meld, what a great mixer.
Thank you!
"Muddy" is a good descriptive term for audio. In graphic art, if you have very distinctive colors on the canvas, but you mix them too much into each other with the brush, you end up with an overall brown color - mud! Audio is similar; if you allow each sound to extend throughout the hearing spectrum, you end up with your ears (your perception) blending it all together in a brown or muddy (non-distinctive) sound. One tip I have here, and it's really just my own observation or experience is that the way you filter and mix a piece or patch will be totally different on different days. Our hearing acuity changes from day to day - not much, but enough that you will perceive a sound differently today than you will tomorrow. This is especially true the older you are and your hearing ability isn't what it used to be. My mixes tend to be stronger in the mid ranges on the left channel because my left ear is about -10 to -15 db less sensitive than my right. That, plus our own emotional state will change how we *want* to hear a sound.
Excellent points! Thanks!
Some more golden information from the master himself!
Thanks!
Super helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
re your disclaimer: I've yet to meet a musician who is comfortable with mixing skills. ((: Awesome tutorial, thank ypu Omri!
Yeah, nowadays a musician has to be everything, composer, arranger, mixer, mastering, PR, sales... It's hard being professional in everything...
U right, mono is ur EQ Best friend, lot of great tips again, you r the Best vcv expert.
bro think of all the time you saved without typing those 6 letters!
Yeah, it's the little things that matter at the end. Thanks!
Excellente vidéo ! Again ! Thank you so much !
Thank you!
At 25:55 you could just connect THRU from UNMELD to IN from MELD. So you don't need to route thru all the "unused" Channels.
Yep, totally. I have also a note about this in the description :)
@@OmriCohen-Music "Oppalach" I just listen to your Words and watch your videos... ;-)
Squinky released a Comp II module designed to work with the mixmaster format (polyphonic channels, etc) that works really good for compression
Oh yes, that's a great addition!
Thank you for this intro to mixing and mastering in Rack, with the new, shiny tools we have now, Omri! VcvRackIdeas also made a useful one earlier. Just goes to show what a huge area EQ'ing, compression, limiting and mixing/mastering is. No wonder they write books and give lectures about it. Does the THRU on Unmeld let everything straight through *except* the individual channels patched out?
Yes, MindMeld are spoiling us... And yes, don't do what I did with Meld and Unmeld, just use the THRU out :)
Exponentiel!
Thanks!
Thanks Omri.
I'm beginner to vcv rack and I discovered this mixer 2 days ago (I've started vcv rack 5 days ago :)).
Question, as you group the drums, can we use the send/return aux to plug the compressor and use the level to fine tune the effect ?
I did use the send/return options for global reverb, delay and compression.
Great channel is yours, great video, very teachy....
Take care
Hey, thanks so much! And yes, you can use the send and return also for the compressor, but keep in mind that there will be a delay between the signals, the dry and the wet, so you might get weird phasing effects. With stuff like reverb and delay it doesn't matter, but with a compressor it might be noticeable.
@@OmriCohen-Music thanks for your reply. Well noted for the delay with send/return. I continue watching your videos.. lot of hours and informations to "digest" :) happy easter monday !
Veeery nice again :-) --- Thanks! Just one question: I would love to record or better use the VCV BRIDGE to record parts in Ableton. However it seems to be pretty cumbersome to install VCV BRIDGE with the latest VCV Rack ... do you have any insights or recommendation?
Thanks! Well, I have to say, the easiest will be to wait for the VST version but what you can do now, is use the Poly Recorder from nysthi. You can record up to 64 channels and then load them in Ableton. Just make sure to have the same BPM and it should work fine I guess.
@@OmriCohen-Music oh, that's interesting ! Is there work in progress for a VST? For time being, recording should be OK too. I love the evolving and self changing things you can come up with a modular system...
Hey Omri! Can you tell me where I can find this blank modules to put text on it for a better overview? Thanks!
Hi! It's the one from Submarine. You can find it here - library.vcvrack.com/plugins?query=submarine&license=&sort=buildTimestamp
Just type 202 in the browser and it will pop up :)
U R A #goodteacher !

7:04 I just happened to look away at this moment, and I nearly jumped out of my skin because I was listening on headphones and that sounded like you'd summoned a demon or something! :-O Haha!
