Good tips. I am building a single run with light blue painted risers and a medium color stain w/ poly on 1" maple treads. Never thought about how beneficial it would be to have that difference in color for safety. I am now concerned about how slippery the treads will be. I think I will go with a carpet runner for safety. Too bad it will cover up most of the finished treads.

Yes, I've seen some awesome stair with smooth steps and think about how many people have or did slip on the steps.
So adding wider (front to back) treads is an ok way to make them more safe? We rent right now but our steps are STEEP...id like to do.something
