  • After watching several videos showing various people using these shears to effortlessly cut sheet metal into giblets, I have bought myself a pair. In this video I unbox, install and test these drill shears on a scrap piece of "heavy duty" Galvalum tin roofing material.

    After watching your demonstration I tried my own of the same brand and found it doesn't cut straight and about 6 inches in on a wobbly cut it got bogged in the aluminum 1mm sheet and was difficult reversing it to remove .
    The directions are useless and that is why I came to TH-cam to find out how to operate it .
    Man Mountain Metals is telling it as it is .
    I expect more expensive brands would work as expected but not this one .

      If both the cutting wheel and the anvil wheel turned at the same rate, gear driven, for instance, it would be a much more usable tool.

      @Kēvin Rose if the bottom cutter was gear driven by the upper cutter, it would be a much better tool.

    It's not great but it's not horrible. 🤣

    • @ManMountainMetals
      @ManMountainMetals  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's another MVP, minimally viable product. If the lower gear had also been powered instead of free wheeling, I believe it would function like the one in the infomercial did. It beats tin snips but would be awkward to use one-handed as you have to guide and push the drill.

  • @Scrap2Cast
    @Scrap2Cast ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lol at least it works! Wondering if you can adjust the height of the blade so it will “grab onto the metal” so you don’t have to push it 🤔

    there not made to cut very rigid metal, only thin sheet metal. i have one also. they cut superloom sheets great.

    • @ManMountainMetals
      @ManMountainMetals  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are advertised as being able to cut mild steel. The metal in the video was galvanized aluminum (zinc coated aluminum) that I was cutting. That is about the least thick and softest roofing material a person would want to use. Any thinner and the nails pull through the metal sheeting in any kind of wind. If both wheels had been geared to turn instead of just one, it would have worked a lot better. I am glad you found them useful, and I appreciate you watching my video. But I honestly think that most people that buy this tool are going to want to use it on something more substantial than superloom sheets (had to look that up BTW, 😆) and as a roofing tool it's really not up to the job. IMHO.

    There might be a learning curve...

    • @ManMountainMetals
      @ManMountainMetals  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree about the curves.🤣 My main problem with that small bit of metal I was using is that I needed two hands on the drill, one to hold the trigger and one to push and guide. The trick is I also needed to hold the piece of metal, so I plumb run outta hands.🤣 If the manufacturer had geared the anvil head to run with the cutter head, it would work a lot better. As is, the cutter turns but the anvil doesn't and it takes considerable effort to push the tool through the work piece. If you were cutting full sheets you could just throw some blocks on it to hold it in place while you used both hands on the drill. Thanks for watching, I can't believe my dumb little video got 11k views.

      @@ManMountainMetals I noticed from watching a few reviews of this piece of crap that people that had the drill set on high had better performance and didn't need to push it so hard to get it through, also giving them a straighter cut line.

    • @ManMountainMetals
      @ManMountainMetals  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not great. It has only one powered cutting wheel, so a significant amount of force is required. It is difficult to both push and guide the tool simultaneously, I'm sure it could be done with practice, but it is substantially different than shown in the ads. thanks for watching.
