Good old Charles Foster. A fantastic...warm...homely TV presenter from my childhood, sadly from a bygone age...I remember my parents saying: | "Right...Bedtime now, TV's finished"...And I wouldn't go till it went..."BEEEEEEEEP!"....I've only just found out Charles Foster sadly passed away in February aged 91....
Granada was everything perfect about ITV, a fantastic region, fantastic company, it is a shame other regions did not take note of their presentation style. Real warmth and heart, such a shame that ITV tore the heart and warmth out of their presentation from around 1998 onwards.
For the North West I do remember Granada was very well organized, I used to go to Spain and Portugal in the early and mid 1980s and it was a mess with instead of a continuity presenter then had crappy graphics of a clock ticking down to the show ... absolute crap ! Oh damn I spoke too soon 2:36
Granada seemed always to have the best way in signing off each night. Real warmth and heart coming through. Great region to have been in I am sure. Other ITV regions were not so.
Didn't Gay Byrne from RTE work for Granada in the early 1960s along side his role as Late Late Show host on RTE? I remember seeing his picture among the presenters of Scene at 6.30, with his friend Michael Parkinson.
John King, Actually that not true, I live in the East of England and Anglia tv had a great signing off in the 1980's th-cam.com/video/vNnCyrbScLQ/w-d-xo.html
John King. Yes, you're right. I've seen a You Tube video of Gay Byrne working for Granada and conducting a very informal interview with those famous sons of Liverpool Ken Dodd and the Beatles. It was a couple of years ago I watched this, mind you, so I don't know if the video is still on here.
I really wish I had a time machine, TV back then was so much more welcoming, of course it helped that I lived in Granadaland. I miss all those friendly faces :/
You mean the ident before the start of their programmes rather than the one in this clip? I always thought it a bit boring that there was no animation or music. Please do give us a clue Keith!
Real heart and warmth from a true professional working for a company that served the North West of England well, Granada. You can't say the same about ITV plc today, it is all crap with presentation, none of it live, all pre-recorded and played from a computer. How sad.
RIP to a true gentleman. We all loved you here in Granadaland.

That's not true.
Granada took over almost all the regions. Therefore
Granada tore the heart out of presntation from 1998 onwards.
Once more, another wonderful closedown in the company of Charles Foster - a true master of the art.
+Colm O'Rourke he was a genius

Interesting that ITV linked this video...

I thought they would've had a specially designed 'Granada 30' celebratory clock at closedown and throughout that Saturday, it would've been nice.
RIP Charles.
On 3rd May 1986, Granada TV celebrated 30 years of its broadcasting. Happy 30th birthday, Granada.

Has anyone remarked about the fact that the Granada Television ident was SILENT ? Well ........ I know. How about YOU?

That piece of music on the trail is Chappell Music's Network
I think I’ve heard the piece before somewhere else. Does it by chance have a name I could Google and hear it in full?

I was 3 months old when this was broadcast.
