    My sister had cancer and prayer groups in California, Michigan and New York were asked to pray for my sister's healing from the disease. My mother was the organizer of all these prayer groups. She is a fundamentalist Christian in the most classic way. My sister died an excruciating death two years ago. What happened to God's promise? It is so easy to see that prayer is no more useful to the sick than rolling dice. Thank you for the reality check!

    When my middle son was a toddler he was very ill indeed with encephalitis, losing all coordination, foaming at the mouth and then lapsing into a coma, we were told his chances of survival were not good and that if he did survive he could well be brain damaged. Did I pray, I am atheist so of course I didn't. He did survive and is now a wonderful father of two children. If I had been a believer and had prayed there is no doubt whatsoever that I would be thanking "god" for answering my prayer. I rest my case.

    • @johnboehmer6683
      @johnboehmer6683 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With What attitude did you ask God to reveal himself? He likely will not respond to a cynical, skeptical, demanding kind of request for him to be revealed. It is a sincere, repented heart that God will respond to, a person that is given over to making him Lord of their life as he does in fact reveal himself. It was with that heart that I approached him 18 years ago friend, and he did an incredible Miracle immediately to deliver me from alcohol addiction and depression. He has done many other tremendous Miracles, things that absolutely cannot be explained in the natural, in the proceeding 18 years. God is no respecter of persons, that is, he does not esteem anybody higher than another. Trust me, if he revealed himself to me, he will reveal himself to you too, if you come to him humbly. God bless.

      John Boehmer Give yourself some credit. God didn’t deliver u from addiction YOU did. Your the one that found a way. And in my experience it’s not God that helps in times like those it’s other people with good hearts. If you had to use God as a reason to quit or pretend you had someone to talk to whatever some people use their kids as a reason or health or failing marriage. The point is you made the decision to quit and stuck with it..no one or nothing else could have changed your own mind but yourself.

      Gleanerman by the way I asked too after being involved in church since birth and having children of my own for my studies to lead me back to God as all the evidence lead away that if hell was real I could save my children. You think the direction turned? I have no fear of death and If I have to face god my eternal torture and my children’s is on his hands

    • @johnboehmer6683
      @johnboehmer6683 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi James, I want you to understand exactly how this happened, and you will understand why I give Jesus the credit. All I did was come to him sincerely asking him to come into my life to be Lord, and repented of my sin. I had no preconceived notion concerning my alcoholism whatsoever. I did not know that God still does miracles, I thought that was a thing from the long gone past. I did not know at that time that my alcoholism would send me to hell.
      What happened in that very moment in time is that the addiction, the desire for the alcohol was completely taken away. Please understand, he did not simply give me the strength to overcome the addiction... He did all the work. One moment, as was the case my entire adult life, I absolutely had to have my beer, I then asked Jesus in, and the next minute I have no desire for it. I didn't even know what Jesus had done until the next day when I went to do my usual drinking, and it was then that I realized something happened. I simply didn't want it! It was the weirdest, most amazing thing! No friend, trust me, if the same thing happened to you that happened to me, you would know that it was God that set you free from this also. Completely unnatural what happened. The depression that went right with the alcoholism was also taken away.
      Alcoholics Anonymous will tell you once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. That is, you can get free from drinking, but you're always going to have to deal with the addiction, the desire. the Bible says, whom the Son sets free is free indeed! That has been the one proven to be true in the 18 years since, as I have continued to have absolutely zero desire for alcohol. No, I get no credit in this, I didn't have to do anything. God bless you sir, have a good day.

      @John Boehmer I wonder if you read and acknowledged what @James Bromley just wrote. It’s like your religions block you from thinking outside of them. YOU DID!! you yourself overcame the addiction without your delusional God. How? Because you became aware it’s an addiction at that moment and your will at that moment started working towards to stopping it. Congratulations!! You beat the addiction! You did the actions! People replace certain activities with their addictions to beat them. Maybe you used God/prayer but that doesn’t prove he exists, because you did all the action. He didn’t magically pull away those bottles. It was your will not to touch. Young kids usually have emotional experiences with imaginary friends, that doesn’t prove they exist. So yeah, you did!!

      @@mariodiblasio8058 I've been trying to investigate this concept of a relationship of God. I have some experiments in mind that I'm going to conduct to try and establish a relationship with God. Wish me luck. I am a genuine seeker and believe there is a God just not sure about some of the attributes of God or his promises. I am not sure if it's actually possible to have a relationship with God and what that would entail. Some answers given to me are "just read the word every day and contemplate god and that is a relationship with him". If that is true then I already have a relationship with god. I want however to know the personal god. Christian theology promises a PERSONAL relationship with God and that God has manifested himself in the flesh and can talk to us. I got some ideas on how to get this to happen and also some ideas about how to avoid getting duped by lower entities pretending to be God.

    What is the purpose of prayer? God knows my every thought right? He knows every hair on my head and he knows whether I’m happy or sad, he knows whether I’ve been good or bad. He knows what I’ll be thinking 10 years from now. He knows everything. My praying to him would be redundancy and simply telling him what he already knows.
    Praying for something outside my experience such as praying for a good outcome regarding others in the world who’ve experienced a tragedy like those who experienced the tsunami in 2004 would be tantamount to trying to change gods mind as he has a plan in place & everything happens for his reason.
    The very idea of needing to pray contradicts the concept of god.

    • @FringeWizard2
      @FringeWizard2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It works. God answered all your prayers by not doing what you requested. You know God himself suffered and yet you ask God to end suffering? Well maybe that's already answered for all mortal beings will die and in dying no longer suffer. As for all evil being stopped, that too is probably already answered, in that one day the universe itself might die and with it evil shall be eliminated (or perhaps, the most manifest evil, aka nothingness / the total negation of God's work will prevail). As for third world countries getting food, absurd amounts of food is given to them all the time, so that prayer of yours is definitely answered. I pray all the time for God to let them all starve because I hate non-whites but God isn't on board with that unfortunately and does not kill them fast enough. As for healing, your body is constantly healing all the time, and likewise for everyone else who is alive. Healing happens constantly around the world always. As for deliverance, I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you want to be delivered out of the hands of your oppressors? Maybe it's already done. All the things you've prayed for probably are already done. Some of it you can't see because it's only been done further ahead on the timeline and other things you have asked for are and have definitely been happening.

    I must disagree about the assessment that prayer has the exact same effect as a horseshoe. While it may be demonstrably true under MOST CIRCUMSTANCES, I'm pretty sure it can also be demonstrated that a horseshoe can protect a horse's foot much more effectively than a prayer can, and while an actual battle is probably neither a good time nor a good place to test the theory that "almost" counts in both horseshoes and hand grenades, throwing either at the oncoming enemy is likely to deter their advance more than throwing prayers at them.
    Granted though, the mental image of enemies in a battle stopping to pick up prayer tracts and read them before moving on is at least good for a laugh...
    I can just picture the conversation: ---
    L: What the heck are they throwing at us?
    P: looks like paper airplanes with something printed on them.
    L: Yeah, there's words on them. I wonder what they say.
    P: How about you pick one up and find out while I throw some of these horseshoes and hand grenades back their way. :)
    L: Sounds like a plan.

It was set up as such: one group was prayed for and knew it, one group was prayed for and didn't know, and the last group wasn't prayed for at all. Results showed that not only were there no differences between the healing processes of each group, it also showed that the people who knew they were prayed for where put under additional stress, and had further complications due to the expectations from people praying for them.

You could treat them all indiscriminately with a banana bag of fluids, powdering their body with some of that fast acting coagulant powder, and giving them all antibiotics. Odds are still better, even without doctors or diagnosis you would still have waaaay fewer deaths in that third group.

    My family is tight financially, but God put it in our hearts to donate money to feed those starving. We took that step of faith and donated 500$ online. Immediately after making the transaction we opened that day's mail. One of the letters was from a friend who we hadn't seen in 4 years, and inside was a check for 500$! We called her to thank her to which she replied, "I prayed to God about how to spend this extra money, and after praying I knew I had to send it to you, but I didn't know why"!!

      Voice Of Truth No, common sense is not a good way of finding truth. The only way to really find truth is through the rigorous standards of science or rational, unbiased logic.

    • @PaulTheSkeptic
      @PaulTheSkeptic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Voice Of Truth You know the truth but you don't question it? One of my favorite poems is written by Stephen Crane.
      "Truth," said a traveller,
      "Is a rock, a mighty fortress;
      Often have I been to it,
      Even to its highest tower,
      From whence the world looks black."
      "Truth," said a traveller,
      "Is a breath, a wind,
      A shadow, a phantom;
      Long have I pursued it,
      But never have I touched
      The hem of its garment."
      And I believed the second traveller;
      For truth was to me
      A breath, a wind,
      A shadow, a phantom,
      And never had I touched
      The hem of its garment.
      If you have the truth and you don't question it, and someone else has the truth but he doesn't question it either but they're both different, how do we tell who has the truth?
      Science has never disproved itself. Science has improved itself. As science gathers more data, we continually get a better picture of what's happening. It's a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. We may never have the entire picture but as more and more pieces come together we begin to get an idea of what the big picture looks like.
      Science is not based what makes sense. As I've already explained, that's not a good way to get to the truth. It makes sense that boats should be made out of wood. It makes sense that the sun goes around the earth. Science is based on evidence. It's a system of gathering and interpreting data with as little bias as possible. That's why we have double blind studies. If the person gathering or interpreting the data doesn't know what the study is about, he or she won't be able to inject his or her bias.

Its not selfish at all to ask a higher power for help even tho others are suffering as well and they didnt do their part and ask. why take away one persons reward when the other whos suffering didnt bother to ask for the help in the first place? Your petition to god doesnt mean its above anyone elses it just means you had faith enough to ask for the help and others didnt it doesnt mean your petition is greater tham anyone elses.

      I think we are coming from two different points of view here. I see religion as something which is a man-made invention and has nothing to do with a creator of the universe. From that point of view, the rulers of a given society want an easy and convenient way to control the masses. Religion provides just that.

      +Jack Sprat they want an easy and convenient way to control the masses.... Yes I agree and Jesus saw the same issues with his short time on earth. He saw his people being taken advantage of by the religious wolves in sheep clothing. Who were they? Jesus said:
      "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous," - Matthew 23:27

That is just another way to say give all your money and time to the church and go recruit more followers so they can also do gods bidding (i.e. the church). Religion is the most successful and 'prophetable' SCAM ever perpetrated on mankind. The catholic church alone has over $170 billion banked. That is some 'prophet' from an easy scam.

      Do you think so? People who don't want to believe would not believe even if Christ came here himself and performed a miracle in front of their eyes. They would claim insanity. Frantically trying to find a logical and scientific explanation for the miracle. They do this because they despise the truth. Look at the pharisees in the bible. Jesus performed multiple miracles even before their eyes and they continued to deny the truth because it exposed their own corruption. Jesus continually exposed their foolishness and pride as "teachers" of the law and they hated him for it. Power and authority corrupts. Now you are an apostate. You have renounced your faith. I am sad and terrified for you. You have been deceived by Satan. I plead for you to make things right with God before it is too late.
      2 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
      4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)- 9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. 10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority.
      Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord. 12 But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.
      13 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. 14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed-an accursed brood! 15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness. 16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey-an animal without speech-who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.
      17 These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity-for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” 20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”

      Prove ANY of what you say. Starting with the statement that Jesus ever performed a miracle. These are stories in a book. We can absolutely prove many of these stories never happened, such as the great flood, and the creation of the universe. There are also the stories that can't be proven but common sense would tell you are bullshit, like talking snakes and donkeys. Read Paul Bunyan sometime, and tell me how much of what he's credited with, actually happened. Books are open to corruption, and we can prove without a doubt that the bible has been altered significantly......If Jesus appeared right now, how would YOU know if it is really him? John prays to God to get a PS4 for his birthday which is tomorrow, but when he wakes up the next day he checks the kitchen and he doesn't get the present here is why he didn't ask his parents only God so praying is not a waist of time.

    My point is that the evidence is very shaky for that. *Usually* people come to a belief such as that based on a religious experience rather than on solid evidence. The "evidence" is often that "the same story has been passed on by people for 2000 years".

    Not all prayers go unanswered. Just being alive is a gift. We tend to ask for things instead of being grateful for what we have. My life has not been perfect but I learned that some prayers were best left unanswered and that in itself the answer to my prayer. Let's instead be grateful for what we have. I lost everything a few years ago but found gratitude. Had to start from zero. I learned to help others without them even knowing. I understand your point I prayed and thought like you. Now I pray for those that did me wrong that they too find happiness and peace.

    Also, if we are not able to put something to the test, then how do we find out what is true and what isn't? Testing something is usually the way that we distinguish between beliefs which are true and those which aren't.

    • @lucysemaan3176
      @lucysemaan3176 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not necessarily true.You cannot put God to test, so that means you don't know if he he is real.God merely requires you to have faith that he exists, now is that so hard?If it is, I am sorry (not really)

    • @MadScientist72
      @MadScientist72 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lucy Semaan A god who wanted me to worship him would make it a point to demonstrate indisputable evidence that he is real. He would know what would convince me, and he would make it a point to have that happen. If he doesn't, then I conclude that he is not real. Also, WHY must I have faith? In any other imaginary, made up thing, such as leprechauns, the tooth fairy, etc., we all know that those things are made up and nobody would suggest that you have to have FAITH that the tooth fairy exists. So, why the double standard?

    • @MadScientist72
      @MadScientist72 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lucy Semaan In other words, I could just as easily say that "The tooth fairy exists...you just have to have faith". But nobody would accept that as reality, so why should we accept God as reality?

    Mark 16:14-15 - Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene but it's not clear where
    Matthew 28:8-9 - Jesus first appears near his tomb
    Luke 24:13-15 - Jesus first appears near Emmaus, several miles from Jerusalem
    John 20:13-14 - Jesus first appears at his tomb

    Jesus was not just a prophet of God. He was both fully God and fully man. He came to earth to bridge the gap between man and God. Christianity is the only world religion which teaches that God came to man and sought him out. Other world religions require man to seek God or gods. Salvation through Christianity is not contingent upon anything we do, but is a gift from God. This is what the Bible teaches and why I choose to follow Christianity and why I believe it is the only true way to God.

    @voyagersystem My friend I have followed in Christ since I was 9 and was saved at that age. Then around when I turned 18 or 19, I realized it was all superstition. Not ONCE during my time of Christianity and belief in God did ANYTHING get better for me. I prayed for him to save my loved ones, they died, to help me make the right decisions, I made bad ones that I regret, and I always thanked him for sending his son to die for us every prayer...they all went unanswered.

  • @humbertojimmy

    Religious people have a tendency to only consider the hits and ignore all the misses, so they often trade stories of "prayer success" among themselves and from there the bubble of delusion grows!! If they were to trade stories of unanswered prayers too, they would see reality. But they protect themselves from that, so they can remain religious.

    In 1970, Russian soldier Ivan Moiseyev was undergoing the "re-education" by the Soviet government. After claiming he saw and angel, his CO, Major Gidenko, attempted to destroy his Christian faith by making him stand in the street all night in -13 F, while wearing summer fatigues. All Ivan had to do was to renounce his faith, and he'd be let back in the barracks.
    At 12:30 AM, some officers went out to check on him. His hands were still warm, and gave no indication of renouncing his faith. Cont>

    It's pretty sad and disappointing that people still pray nowadays. Since it is able to demonstrated that is doesn't work, I will gladly enjoying feeling smarter than those who pray. Why? Because when something can be proven to not work, and yet people still do it as if it does work, I am smarter than them.
