The M1 Air was my first MacBook and I was really surprised by it's capabilities as a general use laptop. Unless i specifically wanted to game, I'd grab the air for everything else.
Fast forward to the M3 Pro, I was once again amazed by the power and efficiency. Sure, you can run a thousand benchmarks like other tech tubers and try to find fault on every little thing that apple does, but in the real world, these devices simply work and gets the job done.

I joined the dark side as well with an M3 pro, and will always have a desktop PC for gaming/workflow, but windows laptops are decades behind these newer gen macbooks pros.I had a Surfacebook 3 before this and it was neat but impractical. I absolutely love this device, and am 50% upset i waited so long, 50% happy because they finally hit a sweet spot right at/under $2k.
Side note: for PC components, i go Intel/ASUS every 5 years or so for one simple reason: I never have issues. I was able to solve (most) premier crash issues by changing my workflow slightly, but the overall Adobe experience is far smoother on my MacBook so far.

      Competition is good.
It's good to see Apple finally making usable MacBook after decades of garbage.
This competition will now improve the windows laptops which has no competition until last 3 years.

Almost 3 years ago, I thought the same exact way as you have expressed in this video. I was A Samsung Knight with the watch, phone and ONLY Windows HP laptops. I am now using an iPhone 15 Pro Max after upgrading from my iPhone 13 Pro Max after having that for 2 years. I am using a 2021 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 and LOVE it after upgrading from a 13 inch MacBook Pro M1. I thought I would NEVER say I would NEVER switch or use an Apple anything. WOW, I was sooo wrong. I am also using an Apple Watch 7. People are tired of hearing this but they JUST WORK. I do still use a Windows (Dell ) Desktop for fixing my friend's Windows machines when I am asked to take a look at them. Not a shot at Windows at all. It is what it is. Just found the channel and I am a subscriber big guy. Always watching here in Michigan and Go Blue and be safe....

That was a fun video. I started building my own PCs when Windows 95 was released, and continued to be team Windows until about fours years ago. That's when I started the transition to the Apple ecosystem which is now complete (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone), with one exception. I still have a modest Windows gaming PC that I use for my Steam library.

I 100% agree, I used to build my own pc's and be anti apple for a while... then I became older and appreciated the lack of problems way more and made the switch. I've been on apple for 15 years now and I've experienced only one crash using my computer everyday for at least 6 hours. All the windows issues would have taken hours of my day to fix and years of my life from the stress.

It's great that you can have your full attention on doing what you do best since you have the gear that covers your back, instead of dedicating resources to keep you from downtime that chews from your focus, attention and even creativity. Some may argue that these laptops are expensive but the truth is that they are a bargain for what you can achieve with them.

Changing to MacBooks was a huge. I love and use lots of the the apps on them too like Final Cut and GarageBand. I need a lot of power coz I edit lots of videos as well as photos and use my laptop a lot so I need it to work with little bullshit to deal with. I've the 16 inch M1 Pro. Forgot to mention the scaling issues in Win, not present in macOS and so many other issues (e.g. reconnecting an external display -> Windows: all opened windows stay random at the laptop display vs. macOS: the windows are reorganized on the ext. display where you put them).
I switched to macOS some years ago. Knowing Linux, Windows, Solaris, OpenBSD I‘m really happy with macOS.

The main thing is. Apple laptops last really really long. I bought an M1 in 2022 January. Before that, I had top of the line maxed out 2015 MacBook pro and I still use it as a backup laptop. 6-7 years for a laptop is fantastic according to me. And it still works. I upgraded only because the latest Adobe softwares I use started to lag big time on that 2016 laptop, Otherwise I would've still been using it for a few more years.

I used Apple II in school growing up (hell, I saw the 1984 ad DURING the Super Bowl) and in spite of always wanting a Mac, didn't get one until my M2 Air, which I upgraded to an M3 Max Macbook. I won't waste anyone's time other than to Echo BigE's sentiments on the current advantages of the Apple ecosystem and silicon.
Current worldwide stats show MacOS at 20% vs Windows dipping below 70%. The trend towards something that truly works vs something that is messy and unencumbered are clear. Everything has its season. Mac is finally getting its season.

Have you noticed any CPU/GPU performance differences between your M1 Max and the new 16" M3 Pro?
Does the M3 Pro outperform the M1 Max in any noticeable way from your experience? I've also bought the 16" M3 Pro with 36GB & 1TB storage.
I've come across videos stating that the M3 Pro is "Not a Pro" anymore. They argue it's more of a downgrade from the M2 Pro due to the core distribution-more E cores and fewer P cores. Is it truly a downgrade in your opinion? Real-world experience is what counts at the end of the day, not those benchmarks.

I was a Galaxy S, Tab S, Watch, Buds, HP Laptop guy like 6-7 years ago, and back then Apple devices were shit. The laptops overheated and lacked performance, the tablet had the most outrageous pen charging design ever and the phones lacked many nice features like widgets, good screen and the AirPods sounded like shit. But Apple turned it around. First the iPad Pro (2018) with the new designed pencil, then AirPods Pro, and finally Macs with M series chips. I got an M1 MBP few months after its release. It was perfect as I code for a living, I record music for passion and mostly out with my backpack. It made everything I do easier for me, so I ended up doing everything I do better. I think this is the most important aspect of Apple devices right now. It enables you to do better.
PS: Just in 3 years, I ended up upgrading all my devices to Apple, the main reason being 'because it just works'. And very much enjoyed your video and you not giving any fucks.

And yes my iPhone is just playing nicely with all my other Apple devices. On a level that a PC guy would never understand. And yes no driver installation no Lego building computers it's all just concentrating on your work. You mentioned working remotely with portable machines so battery life is important. If that is important then there's no question that MacBooks are king at the moment

I used to love my custom building of PC's (I am 46, old and jaded)
If you want uncomplicated work flow, But a MAC. FACT.
There are things you will struggle with coming from the PC world but you will soon become unfamiliar with the chores of driver updates, config tweaks just to get things how you like.
What you will get from "the walled garden" is seamless workflow and a realisation over tme that you are spending less time configuring and more time doing.
Apple script will change your life....
Everyone grows up at some point and realises that the PC midset is counter productive.

As someone who has been on Mac for the past 15 years (still use them), but recently purchasing a windows desktop for gaming/stream. Mac is just so much better. I can honestly say in 15 years I've never had major problems that weren't something simple like 2012 MBP- HDD crashed replaced with SSD. The overall OS is so much more refined and the way all programs just work seamlessly is the perfect for creatives.
Yea sure you can build a PC for half the cost and maybe slightly better, but how many driver updates for EVERY single thing you want to use or install on the computer, needs to be a constant concern to why the PC is about to explode.
I won't go into the entire Windows 11 OS and how absolutely complicated it is to achieve even a simple task. (this may be more of a me thing not using windows OS for so long, but I'll still blame the OS)

These videos are not coincidental. Apple silicon and ecosystem and optimisation gets Apple to the top. It's easier for a developer to build for Apple. End of story. Windows Android will never be there and it's okay. Make a pc for gaming and renders it's fine. Have a Mac for creativity only if it makes sense to you budget wise.

I started off kinda think Apple sucked. Over the years, I grew tired of Android and Google’s inability to keep their apps and software alive (see the Google Graveyard). I tried an iPhone. I was hooked, but still used Windows, Linux and a Chromebook up to that point. Once I got my first MacBook in 2021 after the awful butterfly keyboard generation - I may never go back. Everything just works seamlessly, and pairs with my iPhone. I can honestly say that Mac is the *BEST* OS for photographers, videographers, and artists - bar none. Windows is still King for gaming, and Linux for everything else.

Your experience is very similar to mine. I was fully immersed in the PC / custom built ecosystem (and still am, to an extent). I worked at a PC build / repair shop for 6 years, and managed it for part of that time. And I even recently built a new PC for gaming.
But also, some years back I switched from being not-at-all-Apple to being mostly-Apple. My phone? iPhone. My daily driver laptop? MacBook Pro.
Why? Because no bullshit. It's not that I don't know how to build, use and fix PCs -- I literally used to do it for a living. But just because I can doesn't mean I should.
I used to think Apple people were just being zealous and cultlike when they said stuff like "Apple stuff Just Works". But no, they're literally correct. Compared to their competition, Apple stuff just fuckin works, without drama, and works for a very long time.
I switched to Apple because I wanted my relationship with technology to change from me-working-for-technology, to technology-working-for-me. It worked.

Same, a minute before an important meeting I got, windows decided to update, turns out it broke nvidia drivers, no new update was yet to be out, so my clients had to wait for 20 minutes while I restore my PC , a week after, bought a Mac, never looked back ( though I still use pc for 3D rendering for now)

From the perspective same thing used only Microsoft since 94 yet here I am exactly the same boat. Worked with ASUS also on another channel of mine and these are on another level. Now all my buddies talk shit but I rounded everything out iPad Pro, watch ultra, m3 16”, iPhone pro max no fucks given and omg the stress is just gone. Everything works how it’s supposed to. No more windows updates no more drivers issues. Just no more. Fuck all that shit it’s finally a new age and I love it.

My biggest gripe with Apple is the locked in hardware and software.
Also the GPUs are absolute trash compared to AMD and NVIDIA.
It will be interesting to see how next year's Intel Meteor Lake performs, its suppose to be incredibly performant to watt.
We will see what happens. I think having many competitors is a good thing

I joined Macbook ecosystem just 2 months ago. Bought a M2 15,3 Air and then an iPhone 11 (didn't need any newer phone right now). Now I have also de Magic Mouse. I can honestly say that Apple is just better in every possible way compared to Microsoft. I had windows PC for ages and it's true, it can't be compared to Apple, even if it has the same functions, it's just better. Also, I noticed that all the apps that I use for coding works better and fluent with Apple, of course given the circumstance that Apple has to optimize fewer OS on specific products. Anyway, im truly happy to be on this ecosystem and I don't regret to have changed it for my PC gamer and my Samsung phone.

But after years not wanting to ever use a Mac I finally bought A Mac book 16 inch M3 Pro and I have to tell you it was well worth it. Don't get me wrong I'm not converting over to Apple but I will be learning all I need to know about this new machine

putting the ecosystem aside, the only thing that can beat a windows laptops, is the damn battery of a MBP, I have a razer blade 17 pro, Razer Blade 16" and a M2 pro, I extended ram and SSDs on my Razer without breaking the bank. Again, battery life beats any other brand, its not even fair lol, huge win for the MBP

Im used to using windows PC for work... I too got a Macbook pro I´m mostly working on films and TV series, but for me the Macbook Pro is used as an entry level system for writing and media consuption - and is great at it- but it fall short in performance compared to my windows laptops and mid range desktops. Problem is my projects take a lot of space the smallest I´m working is 30TB of media and it has to be simultaneusly accessed by many people from different locations in the office, so a NAS is mandatory and I found that thunderbolt docks are a myth, they are not realiable, disconnect all the time and once you found one that kind of work, it breaks on the latest software update. That and windows managment, is just lacking in Mac compared to windows. There are other things that are great, like battery life, durabilty and good enough performance (even if for the price I can get a much powerful PC). I like it but It´s not the eye opener that many people brag about.

    • @reynold.lariza
      @reynold.lariza 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

which thunderbolt dock are you using? I'm kind of curious, as it not suppose to require any software at all to work or be connected with regardless of OS/laptop you use. (I use Orico brand)
I'm a software/cloud architect/engineer, I too have a NAS (Truenas custom built, with 10g and 2.5g wired networks across the entire house, and Wifi6E for all wireless), and does a lot of virtualization. I have both Windows (Lenovo laptop and a PC with ryzen 3800x with 5700xt), but I still prefer to work on my MBP, because whenever I wanted to sit at the patio or under the tree (still inside the backyard), I won't need to bring in the adapter, or suffer with the hot air coming from an x86 laptop.
P.S. I'm actually kind of happy and excited with the ARM dominating Mac, and later next year for Windows.

@@reynold.lariza tried the OWC, Sonnet and Qnap TB3 to 10GBE they connect without drivers, but connection breaks randomly and the reconnects meaning crashing Davinci Resolve when editing. The Qnap was the most stable of the Lot but when Blackmagic updated to New 18.5 it too started to fail.
Heard about the Thunderbolt Dock Pro but read about issues with external Displays, so... Easier to keep on working on the Ryzen desktop, It works well and is very stable.
I keep my laptop for other tasks.

I have a Razer blade 14 with AMD cpu and RTX3070 GPU yes it does things better such as gaming and ill always want a gaming PC ( unless Apple can produce finally a GPU power, DevKits and partners with Devs for games. Then I’ll be Apple exclusive ) I’ve also been a PC persons for years apron years, different brands such as MSI, Razer and Asus.
I got a MacBook Pro M3 and wow! 3 days in and haven’t had to charge this thing! All other brands I’ve used would get like 3-6 hours if you’re lucky.
For a work device MacBook is great and having the iPad beside it they sync straight up and can use it as another monitor!!
I am in the exact same boat, i was an apple hater, only apple device i liked was the iPad due to the apps actually optimised compared to Android. I hated there phones, watches, Computers. I am now like wow, idn i think my next phone might also be a iPhone, everything syncs and works together with no effort.
The only think Apple needs to get better at with both hardware, software and partners is video games, then the Macs are a complete package. Even if they have a sub section such as. MacBook Pro Gaming series, which has a GPU focus and power core focus. But hardware is only half of the issue, you can have a perfect product, but without support, games ect its just a gimmick

Not always everything just works - I had a macbook brick on itself after OS update, I mean, literally, T2 chip caved in on itself and it had to be revived using an external proprietary apple device to reinstall BIOS (I kid you not). Never ever I fucked up a PC like that even when I tried to. What about the SSDs in prior intel machines, that had power ground running 0,2 mm away from the data lines, causing it to short on many machines, rendering them dead paperweights. Butterfly keyboards anyone? Shit, I really loved them to the grave. IMO the 4th gen butterfly keyboard fixed the issues, too bad apple ditched it after investing so much. I had pro 13" with dying wi-fi. Now I bought an M2 Pro that does not work normally with external screens 🤦‍♂ I actually never had a "perfect" apple machine, but then I never had a perfect PC as well. Computers are computers, and they will fail at some point and things. Don't make it sound like macbooks are some kind of a perfect recipe that no other company has
