@@too_many_cameras, great purchase, congrats. That's one of the legendary DSLRs. I have also bought its contemporary Canon counterpart 1D Mark IV. It's a used camera but still a lion while in operation. Hope to use it for years to come.
Digital cameras passed the point of adequacy two decades ago. You can get "professional" results from pretty much anything with an APS-C sized sensor or larger, what it really comes down to is color rendition for people who don't GAF about megapixels, super-high ISO, and mindless auto-focus, which are really the only advancements in camera gear in the last fifteen years, everything you actually need to take and make great digital photos has been standard for a long time, and the older sensors actually render better color and have a better look than anything made in the last ten years.
One thing about the early Canon 1D models: they are expected to last at least 100,000 shutter actuations. A great use for these cameras is to create video time lapse. You buy a shutter release device for a few bucks, plug it into the camera port, and set it to snap the shutter every 15 seconds. Let it go for an hour and you have 240 pictures in the sequence, which at 30 frames a second equates to 8 seconds of video. The quality of this video is about 4K, which is 8.3MP. You can use Lightroom to perform your edits on the first photo of the series, and then use the 'Synch' function to automatically do the same edits to all the other photos in the sequence. The color depth is as good as recording raw in the video camera. Works great.
The worst thing is the power switch. Same as in mk1. It can easily be switched on or off while carrying on a strap, rubbing on a jacket, or pulling the camera from a bag.
how do you like this camera compared to the canon 1ds? The 1ds i had I will have to return it due to it having fungus in the sensor and I am looking for something to replace it as its impossible to find another 1ds in my country. I found a mint 1d II with 14k shutters. I know you used to have a 1ds and would love to hear your input! Thank you!!!
It's been multiple years since i had the 1Ds original so i don't remember how it would compare to this but generally i prefer full frame cameras. So i would probably go for the 1Ds or 5D Classic but the 1D mark II was great camera too with awesome color science.

These old professional DSLRs are one of the favourite types of cameras of mine. I have recently sold the 1D Mark II and bought a Nikon D3

I used to do this with my 5D Classic shooting the northern lights. Great results
