Classic Mic combination and beautiful sounding results. Guitarists who use Modelers should notice how much brighter they are compared to Miced Amps. It would be useful to see the EQ Graphs/Charts for the Miced Amp compared to the similar Mics and Amp in the HX Stomp or Helix Native. Thanks
Hey John. Listened through speakers and headphones. The mic recording sounds great. Specially in the higher register. To me it sounds smoother and jumps out really nicely. Does sound like there's a bit of low end build up but as discussed that's fixable. You sound great with both though of course. Really interesting video. It takes more effort to record this way but when right it is worth it.

To my ears the load box version sounds better in the mix - probably an easy EQ fix (Nashville mix engineers are surely applying EQ on all guitar tracks). What preamp are you using here? On that thread with Uncle Larry he also recommended putting the mics through a good pre amp (neve/telefunken/api). These classic preamps cost more than the Royer though 😬. In his video he also mentioned the importance of blending in a room mic to get that rock sound.
OMG that's the best sound I've heard you get. Nice and full with lush bass and smooth top end. This combo is definitely legendary for a reason. Careful not to drive the 121 too hard, it's expensive to repair if you blow it.
I don't have a Royer, but I've had a Mojave MA-300 for close to a decade and it's been a wonderful mic for vocals and acoustic guitar that was also designed by David Royer. I haven't miced guitar cabs in a long time either using Two Notes and then Fractal products since 2013, but I have a Cascade Fathead which is also a nice ribbon mic that's fairly well regarded for considerably less money than a 121.

The harmonic content was really noticeable compared to past videos and modeller days. Really nice
My favorite mike combo since almost forever... never regretted paying for the 121.
That mic setup deserves a decent pre amp , finish the signal chain for an even better result.

Sennheiser 609 and SM57s do hang over the Amp Studio and Live scenarios well and clear enough for all but he most finicky! IMHO

The R121 has insane low end, try it with a roaring Marshall through a 4x12, paired with a 57, and hear magic

I’m a big fan of UAD Apollo and their modelling mics. Tried and recorded most of them and they are fantastic.
Should mention that UAD has modelling mics that can emulate an SM57 and Royers very well.
