      This has nothing to do with Hollywood. It's a British movie in the same way the play is a British play.

    • @burtward895
      @burtward895 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@adamo1528 They film a lot of "Hollywood" movies around the world. Quite lately, Canada is the golden child of Hollywood movies. In 1974, 20th Century Fox of Los Angeles paid $1M to bring Rocky Horror Stage Show to the NYC. It opened with very soggy reviews. NYC was evidently not ready for the style of theatre. Lou Adler convinced 20th Century to scrap the idea of the stage show and instead produce a movie. The same finance heads who almost scrapped Star Wars decided to pony up $1.2m for production funding for Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now they had to decide where to film it. On one hand, Canada's production rebate is really good and you can skirt some of the AFL/CIO affiliated fees and union requirements. The worst in regards to union control has to be NYC. Sidney Lumet's book, "Making Movies" tells of horrors of dealing with groups like Teamsters, IBEW, and IATSE as they all have their hand in the cookie jar. Filming in Europe is not as bad but has its own downfalls. Filming in England can be a bit challenging due to all of the various rules like London's congestion toll for trucks and all that. Imagine you have a Lorry loaded with a jib, some rail, brutes, multi's, snakes, booms, etc and you reach the congestion tax point and you don't have £15 to buy a permit. Do you chance it in hopes for leniency or stop and try to find a store that will help you with change. A good way to know a "Hollywood" movie is to see who released it. Chances are, if an agency like "20th Century Fox" released it, then they most likely provided the initial production funding for it. Like with Star Wars, they fronted the $15m to George to get it rolling. They did not like what they saw in the working print (ahead of the effects and music). They were considering selling it until Spielberg saw a copy and said he liked it. George had found people willing to pay off 20th Century so he would own it outright and could shop a new distributor. It was good they didn't sell it because had they done that, by the December 1977, they would have filed bankruptcy as a result of the video game room craze. But because they didn't, the posted a $100M profit for 1977. RHPC was initially a failure in regards to the box office. While 20th Century did recover its investment, they initially didn't make a killing. That came after RHPS became a cult classic to the tune of $170M. I remember, in 1981, looking outside my dorm in Adams center at OU and there was always a line around it on Saturday night around 11PM. They were there for the midnight showing at the Stubbman Village theatre. I couldn't understand why people were all dressed up weird. Sometimes an odd person in a wheelchair who obviously was not handicap. A few odd people in wedding clothes. Plenty of people dressed in tranny gear. So my buds and I went over and saw a showing. OMG, people actually tossed real rice at the wedding scene. And water guns fired all over for the rain scene. You really needed a newspaper to stay dry. Whole decks of cards went flying. Now it was nice to collect the rolls of toilet paper as the school toilet paper was sand paper. Great memories for sure.

    I love that idea about the acoustic version of the score, sung by Richard. I hope he does it.

    I’ve always wondered if the Dining Room scene in Rocky Horror was inspired by the one in James Whale’s “The Old Dark House” (Karloff serving a la RiffRaff)?
