- On this past Friday, West Toronto Prep out of Canada faced off against one of the top high school football teams in the United States... none other than IMG Academy. Entering the game, West Toronto Prep was 0-5 and had only scored 6 points the entire season. Unfortunately for them, neither of these two statistics would improve at all against IMG. The game was an absolute beatdown from the opening plays. It took IMG only two plays to score a touchdown and they didn't look back. After the first quarter, the score was already 57-0. West Toronto Prep was completely outmatched at every position and it showed as they had many plays where they were simply overpowered. By halftime, the IMG lead had grown to 96-0. The teams got together at the half and decided to call the game. West Toronto Prep fell to 0-6 on the season and now had been outscored 291-6 on the season.

They improved. By the end of the game they were turning those fumbled snaps into safeties instead of touchdowns for IMG.

I mean it coulda been a smart play if you think about it. If he takes the safety, other team gets two points and the ball, likely drives down the field for a TD, 9 quick points. Instead, just give em 7 and get the offense back out there and maybe you get lucky and score lol I doubt that much went thru his head on that play, but he likely coulda stopped the other team from scoring another 2 points right there

@@westerngroovetv honestly, a local team I support got a taste of what it's like to face a top 12 high school in the state lol. 31-7 took the L, but they just had a better line, an admittedly better backfield, better corners and better hands WRs. Only thing the local team had was Special teams. 3 blocked punts on them, 2 returned TDs. Both called back cuz the anger management idiot blocked in the back. They got their only points off of a blocked punt in the redzone. Was proud of them though.

I thought the same thing. I couldn’t understand why the shotgun snaps were so bad. But I had a thought midway through. Just a complete assumption. But if the o line was unable to protect for long (which seems apparent) maybe they decided to go shotgun to try and give the qb time to throw just from the stand point of he’s already back in the pocket as opposed to wasting the time dropping back????? Again. No clue if that was why but if not there is no excuse for the snaps being that bad.

@@anthonyizquierdo5467 I’m not trying to be mean, but their center clearly sucks. Most of the fumbled snaps were on him and their line was collapsing instantly pretty much every play. They couldn’t run the ball because there were no gaps and they barely even slowed down the pass rush. If you go under center, I think by the time they drop back there’s going to be at least 1 rusher on the qb. And that’s if they can even do an under center snap right.

This is almost unbelievable. The offense scored on every first drive, and the defense scored on each of the other team's first drives.
right before video play starts, img's first offensive play was like a 60 yrd pass.
90 on West Toronto was the only guy I could tell who gave a crap even when he did get stiff-armed. He was always near the ball, and then you got other defenders not diving to tackle or giving lazy effort. Crazy...

I recently had a conversation about IMG and other national entities which recruit the best players from around the country. IMG should not be classified as a high school. They are not restricted to boundaries or borders like high schools. They should be forced to play other entities that recruit players who do not live in the area.
Yes, and other teams are on to them now. The model is failing because other teams refuse to play against a team that gives scholarships and recruits nationwide (actually, they recruit globally, seriously). They cannot find many teams to play (they likely pay those who will play them) and their model is failing.
A small northern California team is doing the exact same thing just with not as good players. It sucks because I have to play against 6'7" guys who weigh 325 and bench press 400 at 16 years old. Not fun but good for them 😂
I don't think you understand the meaning of a private school. Private schools have no boundaries or borders, as long as you got the talent or money to attend one...

Florida doesn't let them compete in regular season (or playoff) play, for just that reason.

Most the kids on IMG’s team will be playing at P5 schools next year and many will be in the NFL after.

In my high school, a game got called off a different way during halftime because a player in the other team struck a ref because of a call. We were up at the half so they gave us the W anyway

I didn't know you could call a football game at halftime, like a "slaughter rule." I think a better option would have been to just have a running clock, and have both teams just do running plays, but I guess injury could still happen and they were concerned for the safety of the Canadian team.
for illinois at least whenever we were up by 4 touchdowns after half, they would just run the clock no matter what
I'm from NC; we do it once 42 points is scored. Back when I played it had to be agreed to by both HC's, but in the 1A level after I graduated the smaller schools started to have player turnout issues across the state, and schools started not being able to fully compete. There would be 70-0 games constantly in quite a few conferences. NCHSAA then passed the mercy rule in 2014 . It still happens now but it's more rare, usually it's just due to teams being awful. This one shoulda been running clock by the end of the first quarter with just runs. No idea why IMG kept doing screens either near the end, that is kinda wacky. Guess they wanted to mess with the school they have next week.

Running the clock out with running plays wouldn't have helped the situation. Because West Toronto prep couldn't even handle the center quarterback exchange properly. It could have very well ended in 150-0 score.
Calling it halftime was the right decision.
You can forfeit a game whenever you choose. Perhaps what they should have done is forfeit after the first score. If nothing else, it would totally ef up IMG's precious stat lines.

They can obliterate all the inferior teams they want. I can't have any respect for a hand-picked high-school "football factory." These are a bunch of players who will go on to major in eligibility in college, and "graduate" from there ill-prepared to do anything but play football.
If I played for IMG I would transfer to a school like American Heritage, St. Thomas Aquinas, or Chaminade-Madonna after this season. They are better coached and actually play a real schedule. Also they compete in the Florida State playoffs so you’re actually playing for something.

can someone explain how IMG Academy works? I get they're the best or at least top 2 highschool football teams, but why do they get to schedule random teams and why specifically the worst team in Canada of all places? are they even in a conference? this sounds accusatory, but I dont mean it to be. I'm just genuinely curious why every year the only time I see a clip of them is because they found the worst team they could possibly find and played them.
Just like everything in this country now, its all fake af and we celebrate it like it means anything
They can schedule who they wish and try to put tough opponents on the list. In the end, though, the other schools have to return the phone call. I wish TX and CA played IMG. There are so many great potential games each year that will never happen.
They are independent, but they are having a real problem finding teams to play. Some potential opponents see recruiting nationwide for HS football as unfair. They used to play one public team in Alabama, but that is over. Now they scour the country to find some who will play them. I assume IMG pays their opponents (think about that for a minute, in HS) like Power 5 teams pay early season teams to play. For awhile their model worked, but other teams have caught on and there is no cachet playing IMG anymore.
It's basically a "football factory," and a feeder school for the football factories at the NCAA level. I'm guessing that these players will go on to majoring in eligibility in college, and they will become the next generation of pro football players who have issues forming two consecutive coherent sentences in post-game interviews.
