    I took drafting back in the late 70's before all the Computers came out and I also studied Art all kinds. But everything was drawn out nothing on Computer's till it was time to copy your work on a copy machine. Yes it took for ever to do and you had to know all your matereals as well. I ended up going in to the service and becoming a Army Sniper. Then in later years a truck driver. Now that I am older I want to go back to my first love of architecture and start taking classes. I need to know what classes I need as well as programs to study for this new age. Funny thing is a guy I used to go to all my art classes with back in the day went in to the FX market of movies and became very successful. Working on Avatar, FX, Jurassic park and other movies. I guess I should have stayed in classes with him, Christopher Swift. LOL!!! But this video show'd me some good programs to look in to anyway so that maybe I can start working from home since I am retired now. Thanks again Great Video. Kurt Vara

    I went to school in Detroit for undergrad and then abroad to Poland for my master's. Rhino was heavily used in Poland alongside Archicad which is another BIM software (I prefer this so much more over Revit). I chose to attend the Polish school because they were known for doing a lot of grasshopper and intricate formwork, so in two years I became well versed in parametric design. In both schools professors did not encourage students to use Revit (until your 4th year maybe) and Sketchup for good reasons such as Revit is too clunky and limits creativity a lot of the time and sketchup doesn't really produce drawings just models (you can't use it for documentation). Sorry for rambling, I thought that I should add my two cents ;)

      Will disagree on the "Sketchup not used for documentation" side of things. I know some architects who use Sketchup as BIM and Documentation (with Layout) software with a bit of knowledge with Ruby & some of them even make construction drawings faster than those who use BIM.

    Great choice of software. Grasshopper is one of the most fun to play with. And instead of Maya, I love to use Blender 3D, because it is capable of so much, there are tons of addons and tutorials online and the best thing is, it is free. Archicad is also a great choice beside Revit, both have the strongs and weaknesses. :)

    Alfred State College in Alfred, NY teaches Revit as a required class. The professor for it is the Revit master. Studio doesn't require one specific software, but Revit seems to be the favorite because you may get a free license if you're a student. I like Revit, but it has some limitations. I still enjoy. I also use Fusion 360 for modeling furniture and custom pieces. Fusion 360 is free for everyone! I have never used Rhino. Is it comparable to Fusion and SketchUp? Dynamo is a Revit Plugin like Grasshopper. I like Dynamo, and I really wanna get to learn more.

    how about affinity photo ? it's way cheaper than Photoshop because you don't need to pay periodically subscription and it's available in apps store for 20 bucks for a lifetime.

    • @UnravelingArchitecture
      @UnravelingArchitecture  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive never personally heard of affinity photo. I will say Photoshop is the standard and Adobe somewhat has a monopoly on the entire software world. Haha but because it is the standard, it is probably best to know the software - as any other firm probably won't be interested in that you know "affinity photo" - just because Photoshop is really just the standard

    Do you have to be a very artistic person to be an architect? Another part of that is do you have to have skills in drawing/painting to excel in architecture?

    • @UnravelingArchitecture
      @UnravelingArchitecture  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't have to be artistic! Painting and all that stuff is not required haha but you should like being creative! Trying to answer design problems with creativity is going get you through school!

    • @anapmm8644
      @anapmm8644 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of people in my course aren't super artistic, and you'll learn whatever drawing skills you need. The unis might ask for a portfolio though but you can show them product design work instead of artwork. At least in the UK unis are like that.

    I come from egypt, and as an arch student lots of ppl use cracked versions of many of those, so I've been wandering if this is the case elsewhere, bc some of those programs are so expensive for a fresh grad that I can't think of a way a fresh grad would start working from 0$$ in their pocket cuz the start itself costs a lot of money

    You won't find any architecture in any software. Architecture is an art which you have to evolve in your brain, by learning basics of sculpture, visual tension, composition, texture, lighting and most importantly: descriptive geometry. First, you had to have AutoCAD, now you have to have Revit (it should be called Rivet), tomorrow it will be something else with which, they will try to pull the money, out of your pocket. If you are a student on a limited budget, all you need is LibreCAD for 2d drawings and descriptive geometry, Blender for 3d modelling and rendering and finally GIMP for turning renderings into painterly or photo-real magic. These 3 programs are totally free. To be good in architecture, you have to be able to do conceptual design, which has nothing to do with software. So the ding dong in this video is describing software for millionaire architecture students, who will wind up selling phones, anyway.

    Oh and one more thing I wanted to add, you NEED AutoCAD for being a Civil Engineer (My dad is one). I've seen him work for hours on that, and so it probably isn't close to being irrelevant in 2021 after all
