    For a cabinet lock I'd have to say this is a pretty tough lock considering what is usually used to secure drawers and file cabinets. Great review LPL

      Seems like a good idea to me, these filing cabinets can contain all sorts of naughty info. Keep Mr. Taxman out.

    LPL, well done! Thanks for describing the 2 tools needed to pick this cabinet lock’s paracentric keyway. Learned a lot from your commentary-it’s very helpful watching your methodical skill. Going to send your video link to my cabinet maker friend as this lock is exceptional.

    Great keyway!! That would turn some thieves away itself along with the security pins!

    Hey. Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying your content. There's something very Bob Ross about seeing you lockpicking that makes me want to try it myself. Indeed, I just bought my own starter lockpit set. Keep up the good work!

    Good lock for a cabinet lock, most junk down here as far as cabinet locks would be junk wafer locks except the Bi-Lock one I seen the other day.🍺😎

      I just bought an Abloy cabinet lock on Sunday. Arrived in the post today. It wasn't cheap. Also got a Jackson 4 lever cabinet lock from the same supplier. Got a Lockwood level cabinet lock last month. So there is some variety if you look.

      @DonzLockz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@two_tier_gary_rumain very cool. Yeah but they should be readily available. I remember seeing a jewellers cabinet display locks, all crappy wafer locks. Geez, I got a Bi-Lock for my letterbox but wafers are the norm there too.

    • @two_tier_gary_rumain
      @two_tier_gary_rumain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I've got one in the T-handle on the garage tilt door. Found someone in QLD selling one with a better lock on eBay but I'd be more interested in getting a T-handle that rotates freely when locked since the primary method of break-in for the T-handles is to wrench them open.

      On the really cheap waffer cabinet locks, you can yank the entire core out with a knife and a fish hook, but this lock is one that I would trust for keeping $$$ safe.

    *having a go at an old locked metallic green filing cabinet that is probably from the late 60's or early 70's...i can't find the key and i defiantly do not want to destroy the lock by drilling it out...i do have a pick set (an H&H) which did allow me to unlock (sort of) a newer cabinet but the lock was on the very upper right hand corner of the top drawer and the metal (for the filing cabinet was remarkably flimsy so pulling it open took little to no effort...the older cabinet is proving to be more tricky as it is more solidly built and the lock more resilient...not giving up on this by any means just really frustrating at the moment*

    Dear LockPickingLawyer, I just cannot seem to get into this heavy-duty, 3-drawer file cabinet. I have they key... somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath on that. I have some tools, but just can't quite seem to get it open. I've opened smaller two and four-drawer vertical cabinets before, but this one is a legal-sized, wide drawer cabinet with some nylon cylinders that pop out of the right side (as you face it). I would really like to get it open and replace the lock. It was unlocked, but in moving seems to have locked. I can't get the nylon restraining rods to disengage. I would appreciate any suggestions. Sorry, didn't know how else to contact you. Thank you.

    • @lockpickinglawyer

      Yes, but my general rule is to pick locks designed to be mounted in a vice, and locks designed to be loose in my hand. 👍

    I don't think this would be used with furniture. More likely with a glass display cabinet used in a jewelry store.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely not for use on glass. Aside from not having the mounting configuration, If it was used on thin glass, it would expose a portion of the lock that would permit a VERY easy bypass.

    • @TreyCook21
      @TreyCook21 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bypass being the tiny screw at the base? I enjoy the teardown when you do them!

    • @two_tier_gary_rumain
      @two_tier_gary_rumain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking of the types of display cabinets that have a wood or metal frame. The lock is inserted in that part of the frame rather than in the glass. The lock body's length would be about the same as the thickness of the frame so that it sits flush on both sides.

    • @thorlancaster5641
      @thorlancaster5641 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You push the locking pin in from the outside and the lock pops open instantly.

    So, I have a bit of a question that I believe I already have the answer to.
    As an attorney, if you were asked a hypothetical question, would you think it would be possible for someone in Tennessee to take up lockpicking as a hobby? From what I know of the law in TN, it appears to me that there is no workaround to legally own lockpicks without a locksmith license or being enrolled in a locksmith training program.
    I'm not asking for an actual legal opinion, just if you have time a quick glance at TCA § 62-11-104 (g) and a general feeling as to whether I'm on the right track with my non-attorney guess that it's effectively impossible to be legal without enrolling in a formal locksmithing course.
    (And I think I'm likely to be cussing the locksmith lobby here for getting that mess passed. (i) even appears to prohibit master keying my own house without a license.)

    Hey could you do a destructive test on the bell catalyst 750. it would be interesting to see how well the materials used in such a cheep lock hold up.

    • @fluke196c
      @fluke196c 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure the spreader could eat that for breakfast. Video 671 quotes LPL estimating the lock body to be less than 1/8" thick and lots of plastic used internally. It is $16 on Amazon - perhaps this is something you could test and upload!

    • @jonnyboy7097
      @jonnyboy7097 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think your right it would probably be like the lumintrail lock he destroyed a while back. plus the shackle is "extra long" so could probably be twisted with a crowbar.
