    Heads up! I didn't realize at the time of filming this that this was a limited release. The numbers of these boards are already getting low. Go here to get yours -> i.loadedboards.com/163-103.htm
    You will still be able to get the Pantheon version later, but the Collab version will likely all be gone in the summer.

    Heya @Paul Kent, great video! Wondering why you chose to use the kegel 80mm orangatang wheels rather than the Caguama 85mm?

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a really good question. The main reason is because the caguamas don't fit on my board. I also have a tendency to run smaller wheels than most because I train on lots of small but steep hills and I believe smaller lighter wheels are easier for steep climbing (I like to race bikes up hills). Kegels are also a bit less chattery if I need to slide. But my most recent trip, and during the ultra I might have had a slightly easier time with the larger caguamas.
      I used to run 73mm wheels when racing others were riding 80's and 85's and I still managed pretty well. Iaintaimed the size I was used to training with so I would maintain more numeral muscular efficiency. That said, I have determined that wasn't the best call.

      Does anybody know the raw weight of the Nexus board? Approx

  • @threeohm

    If you want a longer deck Pantheon makes the Quest and the Nexus for full wood setups or Wiggler for those that want a long bracket deck.

      Yes! Great advice Vik!
      I am testing the nexus. Kinda. Not during my next skate trip.
      The new ones are a bit stiff for most people. I think that might change for the next batch though.
      And the grip tape is selected for downhilling, which is great, but maybe a tad too aggressive for most people looking at the trip. It's an easy and cheap enough fix though.

    I am leaning towards the Quest Deck, would you see any cons to that preference compared to the Trip??? The Cork from Loaded is very enticing

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it's a poor choice. I might prefer the extra inch of wheelbase length of the quest for my size feet tbh.
      My biggest issue with the quest is the standard style drop through nose. If you lose the board it will mash the nose.
      It will also be a little heavier, which probably only really matters for hill climbs.
      The Quest should lend a slight bit more confidence for slightly more aggressive riding. That said my experience is super limited with the deck at this time. I feel bad taking too much stock from the manufacturers.
      I feel I'd be better equipped to give you advice. If you tell me why it is, you feel you would prefer one board over the other

      @@PaulKentSkates I have size 12 feet as well and the Trip has everything i'd need except for the smaller deck platform issue. If only Pantheon and Loaded collaborated on a 10" wide deck and long platform for feet size 12 and up. That would be awesome as a small batch item

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't tell you what is best for you, but I can give some more insight that hopefully helps.
      For commuting and pushing over distance this board should suffice. The official word is that this board will support people and equipment up to 300lbs with ease. It will be closer to a medium flex. For a stiffer board other manufacturers have good products. I'd look to drop decks by landyachtz or (a personal favorite of mine) Rayne. Rayne's current version of demonseed has a bit of a rocker these days. I personally don't like the rocker for pushing but some people do. Subsonic may be worth some research too. If you are interested in pumping, one of Pantheons hybrid pumpers may be better. If you have to deal with imperfect conditions, pavement, or hills, I'd go with a wooden double drop like the trip every time.
      Hopefully that helps!

      I'm at 255 and a 10 shoe. The board is surviving my weight, and I am used to wider boards but have adjusted quickly.

    Hi Paul, what shoes do you recommend for pushing and why?

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This depends.
      When I skate around town or downhill I use vulcanized skate shoes. They are too heavy and not super ergonomic for long or fast skating.
      When I do distance stuff, I definitely like very close to minimal shoes. I tend to use racing flats for racing, they are super light, and don't have huge heel raises are too much midsole support that can reduce board feel and balance.
      I tend to wear Saucony because they fit my feet. My heel can be a tad narrow and I wear a size 12.5. so shoes that fit are rare. For my last tour I used the Saucony switchback, which is a minimalist trail runner, for my push races I've been using the Saucony A series shoes. I had tons of a4's, I loved the A8 and I have some A9's right now.
      I want my shoes to be lightweight, have good board feel, and I want to have enough grip that my feet don't slip in the rain. Protection is nice but tertiary.

      I would go with what you are comfortable with. I really appreciate having good road feel, and I find a thin running show is still softer on my feet than skate shoes.
      That said a good skateshoe is probably really good in most situations.
      I actually try to convince people to do foot workouts to help with support (look up short feet by dr. Emily Splichal)
      But a pair of superfeet in some skate shoes has done me well. That's exactly what I did for Peru/Bolovia and Morocco.

    Would it be insane to get this for my 2 year olds birthday? Mainly looking at it due to how low it is and have big wheels to roll over things. He is VERY good at riding a 3 wheeled scooter, so looking to upgrade him to a board

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 years old turning3?
      Not crazy no. But a personal question that I can completely answer. It depends on your son's abilities and what you are comfortable getting for him. I won't say there isn't risk that your son will enjoy it.
      Most people start with something like a Dinghy my son has a bolona. But it can be quite a large step up. As far as dropped boards go this on is one of the smallest. Almost as small as the grom race from landyachtz was. And it's very lightweight for a drop board too. But not light like a mini cruiser board. It will feel safer for him so that's a big pro.
      When kids are young, a lower board is easier to push for sure. But there will be less leverage on the bushings with a dropped board. Even a set of 60a bushing will seem a little firm. I do know 7 year olds that like using mine with 80a bushings, so it's not terrible for young kids. (Riptide makes 60a bushings I would get their 60a APS conical). On top of that this board is still fairly wide for a little guy.
      I do think it will be way easier then a board of comparable size that isn't dropped. This will be more stable too. But you'll need super soft bushings because there is no way your son will be able to do kick-turns.
      Yeah ultimately the biggest thing is that it's expensive for some people, especially when you don't know a child's interest. But if you are okay with that it is probably the safest board to learn on. And they will be better at pushing it.
      I think you can get bolt on scooter handles for skateboards too.
      I am planning on making a video for parents of young kids about boards to consider and set ups.
      There is a real lack of child appropriate gear. I want to do something about that.

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say it's better than anything else in a similar width for pushing along. And it will be much more confidence inspiring than a top mount board with smaller wheels. But for full maneuverability, kick tails, though tricky at first, are really nice for kids.
      Oh, the caguamas might be a bit large. I'd probably run 75mm durians with the 165mm Paris trucks, riptide 60a conical bushings. It will be lower still and much lighter.

    • @mitsuracer87
      @mitsuracer87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaulKentSkates awesome response, thank you for the thoughts and details. I ended up ordering a Pantheon Pranayama just because it's slightly lower than the Trip, with Paris street 149mm trucks and 85mm Seismic speedvents. I will probably order a set of those Durians too. If he ends up not liking it I can use the board myself haha. But he is obsessed with my electric longboard so I think he will like it. I was actually looking at the Ballona at first as well. I still may end up getting him one of those too so he can have a kick tail board to use. My main concern was getting whatever was as low as possible so he feels comfortable getting on and off. I will push him around if I need to, to get him more acquainted with the board.
      I'll have to check online for those scooter handles, that sounds like a cool idea. You're right, I wish there were better options aimed directly at kids.

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mitsuracer87 I wrote that you should check out the pranayama, but then erased it because I didn't want to get into the weeds about trucks and I don't have first hand experience with it so I am not confident in my assertions about it. But do think it's a really good choice. I believe (don't quote me on this) it is a bit more maneuverable somehow, just less good at speed (not a concern for such a young child) You'll still need soft bushings. The bolona will be featured in my kids video. I think it's a fun cruiser for grown-ups. But it has a shape that would lend very well for young kids to do freeride, and basic skateboard tricks.
      The shape is super cool.
      Best of luck!

    Hey Paul. Firstly, I watch Long Treks Morocco/Peru on constant loop on the TV and my family thinks I need professional help. The best scene was when you were talking about how malnourished you were after eating cookies for a week straight as you were about to eat a fish. Also when you guys came upon M'Diq.
    Secondly, what's your reason for running your Kegels flipped? Is it a hanger width thing? Why not narrower hangers and unflipped Kegels? Can you persuade Orangatang to make a cut-down versions of their Cags/Kegs, cuz that would be diggity.
    Thirdly, you're my hero.

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Jim! I appreciate the attempts to indoctrinate your entire family!
      I flip my wheels just to fit the hangars, but I'd rather not have to when riding on windy downhills. I am really picky about my truck geometry and I use Aeras for the "inward rake" and to ride 47/38 I also have a set of ultra light k4's.
      I want the outside edge of the wheel to protrude less than 5mm to prevent running over my foot when I start getting loopy. I used to use centerset wheels in competition but the kegels are faster and far more comfy than my old baluts. I have trimmed my kegels in the past (you can see my front wheels are narrower, it would be nice if Orangatang would trim them. I'll keep bugging them. Who knows.

      The balance point is tricky. It helps to have lower angle baseplates, and to have some grip tape at the edge of the trucks. You need to be on the very edge of the truck. Practice dealing with your foot slipping off the rear. It will happen. Try to make it into a foot brake instead of a pulled groin ;)

    Awesome Paul! I really appreciate your video. It comes exactly one day before the LOADED X PANTHEON COLLAB TRIP is officially released. I have started practicing longboard 4 years ago and used the mongo technique most of the time, pushing with my left leg and maintaining my right leg in a mongo style. I'm not really switching even if I am ready to push reverse as I feel I am very stable with this special stance (mongo). I am 43/44 EUR in shoe size (11 US) and I was about to consider buying a loaded TAN TIEN mainly for pushing and freeriding but not doing so much fancy FREESTYLE and surely not PUMPING as I'm not really into it bur I like quick turns and CARVING... I'm very much into long DISTANCE PUSHING since I'm regularly riding in Marrakech, Morocco between the road, the streets, the malls and the sidewalks (which ar usually very damaged) and most often with a non-symetrical regular board between 30'' and 34'' in length and 70mm to 75mm wheels with 78a durometer. I usually consider 10km to 30km per ride and riding 4/5 times a week day and night (each ride is between 1h30 and 4/5hours in duration). Paul - Do you feel that I shall aim for the LOADED PANTHEON TRIP COLLAB instead of the LOADD TAN TIEN for my special way of riding? Would it be a better choice for me?

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually have skated around Marrakech! I have visited more than once and used a skateboard to get around. (I have skated around almost the entire country, some of the footage in my about me section is from Morocco.)
      I think the trip is a better way to get around. That said the tan Tien still has a short nose and tail. They are small, but you can do a few moves to make getting up a curbs more fun. And you can do kick turns. I have been using different trucks that place the wheels closer to the standing platform and that does allow me to use my nose and tail on my Trip to do kick turns and to pop the board into my hands. Unfortunately this is very difficult with the Paris trucks. If you want to use kick tails to turn, to manual your front wheels over pot holes, or to drop off of curbs the tan Tien is better.
      For security the trip is ideal. For a faster easier push with less chance of injury the trip is better. But for ultimate maneuverabilty the tan Tien is a bit better.
      One more thing to consider, is that the loaded version of the trip is a limited edition. Once they run out you can still get the trip, but this version with the cork is only available for a short while. Maybe only the spring. (I'm hoping the doake a second batch before the discontinue, but no talk of that yet that I am aware of).
      I prefer the trip. For getting around fast and more comfortably and the tan Tien for negotiating obstacles. Like really high curbs or concrete/stone barriers.
      Either way I think you will enjoy either board.
      I might start uploading videos for how to negotiate obstacles around town for efficient travel in cities.
      If you have more questions feel free to message me. I am @paskapookid on Instagram.
      Good luck on your choice.

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One more thing. The tan tien will be harder to push over potholes than the trip.
      I skated around Morocco on a long treks demonseed. Which was one of the inspirations for the trip.

    Is this board good for just crusing

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is super good for cruising especially because it allows for an ergonomic push and it being low allows for a better stride and easier balance for foot braking.
      My only complaint with it would be no kicktails, which I like in a cruiser.
      But that aside this thing is probably the most comfortable thing for getting around. It is nimble due to its wheelbase. Just no kick turns or Ollie's.
      It's carve is nice, a bit more snowboard like than a usual skateboard.
      It won't grip in tight carves as well as a top mount. But it's less grabby with the ground so it breaks away smoothly giving you time to react if you carve too hard.

    May I ask what your appeal with the K4s are with distance pushing?

    • @PaulKentSkates
      @PaulKentSkates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll explain it in a video at some point, but the Aeras when the axles are set inwards pressure the rider earlier in a turn (or more importantly for me during a moment where my balance may not be optimal during the top of the knee thrust or during the extension of my push).
      This increases stability and the likelyhood that I will make a mistake and fall even if I use an unstable (but incredibly efficient and fast) technique.
      This is actually very similar to how a wider rear tire pressures a motorcycle rider when entering a turn.
      I also don't find myself in many situations where I don't encounter fast hills during my pushes. I also believe more push races need hills with technical problems. The rogue race and the whistler push races were my favorites for this. The Aeras are very good for that keeping me comfortable when speeding into a corner.
      The final reason is because of the surfy feel I get from them. They are more enjoyable for me to ride than most other trucks. I have never liked them.
      My Aeras are ridiculously lightweight although admittedly they are about 6-10 mm too wide. But if I flip the wheels they are perfect.
      I should point out that they are technically not k4's, rather they are a prototype for the k4, that were designed to be super light (for destruction testing) 3 sets were made and only one (mine) hasn't been broken.

      Oh one more point, but on a drop board, I believe they have more traction in a fast corner than trucks with non inward set axles.
      I hope this helps explain my choice.

      That sucks. Did my video sway you to get the deck? If so I apologize. May I ask what things disappoint you about it? Is it too short? Is it the concave? Is the deck too low (which makes it slide and corner different than less low decks). I'm curious to know for my ability to I prove my own recommendations for people moving forward. And heck maybe I can help advise you on your setup.
      If it's really not your bag, the good news is you can probably sell it. There are people that still want this board and it seems to be sold out everywhere I know of.
