    I live in Covilhã and A Serra da Estrela is my back yard playground. There are buses that take you to the Serra for 10€ round trip. I’m close to Lisboa, Porto and Salamanca. As Penhas Douradas close to Manteigas are amazing. We stayed at a hotel and walked 3 miles to another hotel for lunch. We found goats on our way. The tourists at the hotel were German and British. The internet perfect.

    Not many people can claim they've been to the highest point in Portugal, not even Fred & Wilma! Well done. Later you guys take a 7.5 mile walk through much varied landscape and surprises along the way. Beautiful. As always, thanks for sharing your incredible journey!

      @@saragomes6242 Olá Sara! My Portuguese is very beginner level. I'm confused by your statement. The best I can translate to English is, "The highest point in mainland Portugal is Mount Pico on the island of Pico, Azores" Did you mean Mount Pico is the highest point in all of Portugal, including its islands?

    Serra da Estrela, as you said, is the tallest mountain in Portugal mainland, the tallest in the Country, is in the Azores Islands, Pico, in Ilha do Pico, Pico Island.

    Well D and M, see any wildlife atop Torre? Also, the piece of bread and honey looked great. Would have mine with hot chocolate or green tea. Monique, watching for fire appeared to be a fairly fun occupation. JP

    I enjoyed seeing the foods you prepared in the RV & the historical info with the beautiful nature. Wonderful traveling with you. Noticed stacks of stones on the hill by silos on top of the highest point of the mountains. Wonder the significance of the stones?

      Hello Mama Llama! Thank you for watching and for your kind comment. One of my favourite parts of watching lifestyle videos is seeing what other people prepare for meals and how it’s presented . There’s something relaxing (?) about that!! Yes the stones at the top were piled in what we call Inukshuks in Canada, they represent a person and “show the way” among other things. However, here in Torre they are not helpful and should be knocked down ,as many small creatures need the rocks on the ground for cover to survive and piled up they are not natural. It was pretty interesting. Cheers! M&D

    Been watching your videos over the last couple weeks! You guys are doing an amazing job. I love it! My husband and I are moving there for good in June to retire early… He is from Portugal. He’s been in the United States for the past 40 some years. I am definitely interested in more about the RV aspect of traveling around and just curious of any information that you can provide with a place that you rent it from or how much per day or per week how much insurance do you need anything like that would be so helpful! Thank you and I look forward to more of your videos.

      Hello! So happy to have you following along! Sounds like you guys have a great plan for the future. We did a video a couple back- cost Rv vs Airbnb. Check out that video for some info. Short answer for us it was about 100€ a day including insurance. There are tons of rental places and such a variety of Rvs to check out to find exactly what would suit you. We also have many cost of living in Portugal videos that you may be interested in. Thanks for watching and best of luck! Cheers! M&D

      @TrackUsDownInRetirement  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! Yes there are many wild camping spots. Some are beautiful and others are convenient ie. Pingo Doce parking lot, and some are a few euros and it’s a parking lot but with services. Good luck with your mission! Thanks for watching and following along. Cheers! M&D

    Encouraged by your video, and seeing a squirrel in one of your pics (12:34) I found a very nice and new (IMO) internet site about "serraestrela...wildlife", with lots of very nice images and in English. Greetings from Coimbra (I´m still here cause of the Argentine elections, my voting place is in Lisbon)
