The takeaway of this video is that farmers are not stupid, as society would have you believe. Farming is science.

    • @thecurrentmoment
      @thecurrentmoment หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      "farming is science"
      Well said!
Agriculture deals with nature and things you can't control, so farmers have to deal with objective reality (what science tries to establish) so they basically have to apply a scientific approach
Many urban careers are ultimately based on political, economic or social realities, all things that are created by people and arguably artificial and arbitrary, i.e. non-scientific. And the rules can change any time.
What I mean is that, with many jobs, their reality is dictated by the whims of people, e.g. politicians, customers, bosses, etc.
Whereas farmers have to deal with nature, which is unconcerned with the opinions of people, so they have to deal with cold hard facts

Joel has mastered nature’s machinery, its system. He tunes decisions according to the factors of sunshine, rain, and seasonal variations. His animals are the gears that produce food from his husbanded land and all in harmony with God’s intentions. His conjecture about links between our thinking (cognition to Latin lovers) abilities and the nutrients we ingest are sobering. This has been a fabulous time learning about Joel and his farm, philosophies and seeing how his systems work.
Being from Atlanta, there wasn't a farm for me to be on during the school year. But my mother sent me each summer to my grandparents small, retirement dairy farm in Bucks County Pennsylvania. There on the 48 acre farm, Gramp had three cows, two chicken houses, one pig, so many apple trees, a Bartlett pear tree, and even a Bing cherry tree.
I followed him around all the time as a helper fascinated and watching. I had chores and did them every day.
Watching Justin Rhodes' videos has really taken me back to a lot of great memories. It makes me want to get started. I am lapping up ideas, especially about starting small.
So I am so thankful and happy to spend a lot of time listening and learning.
I have been somewhat of a gardener for many years, but now I am taking in so many new better ways that is very exciting.
At age 77, it may be a bit different for me, but I am still fascinated. I have thought maybe I am too lazy, but maybe not. Will you posted.

A comment Joel made about how stress-free living/grazing environments appear to create meat that is more tender and flavorful reminds me of something I read many years ago. It was about the processes used by kosher-certified butchers and the respect to be shown toward the animals to be killed. What Joel was postulating sounds like what kosher butchers have been doing for centuries.

Loved this Mike and Lexie. Had not seen Polyface pigs in the forest before. Mostly hush chickens, turkeys, ducks and cattle. The pigs are very very calm and in super condition.

I'm an older subscriber, and I really like to see the way that you're improving this channel. I really liked the short video you did with your elder boy, in which you mentioned the 'Warrior Kid' books; also how you educate the viewers at the same time as you yourselves are learning, right on camera. Good job.
    Thanks for the content.
    Keep up the good work.

This could have been a documentary of my childhood. I grew up on a farm and we raised pigs just like this only we rotated them from mixed forest land through peanut fields after peanuts were harvested to clean up the residual crop. All of our pigs were gentle. I remember once a breeder asked my dad what kind of genetics he liked and he replied, "The kind that's good to eat!" This man is a very wise man. My father was the same type of individual. Rather than being forceful, He gently persuaded nature to work with him!
