    Thanks so much for posting this video. I just got back from Sturgis and almost had these installed on my bags, but wanted to do a little more research. I already have a decent stereo, amp, and fairing speakers so I'm glad to know it is possible to mix and match speakers. Thanks again for the video.

    Great Video!! I really enjoyed your "straight to the point" approach without all of the production bells and whistles that others try to incorporate into their videos making them last way too long to keep my interest. (I'm looking forward to checking out more of you channel) I just finished watching the Rockford Fosgate official install video and was bored to tears before they started cutting but suffered through it as I wanted to see it done before I ordered the kit and was almost not going to get it until I saw your demo. I am so glad that I watched this as I would have never tried to cut the lids without removing all of the hardware (HUGE time saver). Awesome tip- hopefully mine will turn out as nice as yours. Thanks so much and keep up the great work.

      I felt the same way been wanting them for a while but couldn’t find anything so I took the chance and got them they worked out great thanks for the input and by the way my long term thoughts on the speakers is on the road I sometimes wonder if they are on. I’m sure you hear better sound with them but I don’t know if I would do it again, inside the garage it makes a big difference cause the sound is hitting you off the ceiling but on the road a lot of the sound just gets lost in space

    I have the stage 2 kit, head unit, 400 amp and fairing 6.5 all RF. I was very disappointed with the stage 2, just ordered the 6x9 kit for the lids. I hope the addition of the 6x9 make me smile because 2700$ should impress me, great video man

  • @BafflingBS
    @BafflingBS 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video! I wish this kit was out when I bought my bike. I bought the Boom lids, and modified those to accept 6x9’s. Interestingly enough, with Polk DB692’s. I will be switching to the mm691’s, when the price is right. You might want to switch to those as well. They are Ultra marine rated, so, they should be just as watertight. I did a video on my system also, I had a lot more luck with my tm400x4ad. Knock on wood!🤪
    I see that RF did good by you. I wish you would do a follow up video about your experience with them. I love mine

    Nice job on the video and the install. Thanks for the follow up at the end. Too many videos don't show the user's opinion after actually using the product. TH-cam has definitely changed how and why we buy stuff. Remember when buying stuff for your bike was a crapshoot? I mean; I guess it still is, but less so now. Thanks to people like yourself, we have something to go on. I'm a pretty good judge of character, and you seem like a stand up guy. If you said it was crap, I'd believe it. Thanks man.

    Definitely was worth it i got the whole set up installed Wednesday and man it sounds amazing definitely a huge upgrade from the factory set up on my 19rgs didn waste my time dealing with Harley to flash it cus they were being very shady about it i just had a authorized Rockford dealer flash it.

    Im going to piece together the RF stage 3 kit with their dsr1. Piecing it together in order to use different front speakers as a lot of reviews state the RF 6.5s arent the best. Looking at the Hertz sx neo 6.5s. Luckily RF provided all the part #s that make up the kit and adding Hertzs make it still about the same price

    I don’t have a bike let alone don’t know how to ride and a friend of mine who’s as clueless as I am just bought a Harley but the radio doesn’t work and one of the reason why he wanted a Harley was because we were driving next to one on the freeway doing 97 with our windows up and we can hear the music coming off the bike CLEARLY! So basically a loud sound system from the bike triggered his intuition to purchase one although he never rode one before 😂 after a give or take of 20 falls the bike is now in the shop getting 8 Rockford Fosgate Speakers because he thinks that’s how many speakers it has to take to sound exactly what we heard on the freeway that day. Also a new deck and a new amp. Smh I told him 8 speakers are in my opinion way too many and I think just two speakers on the saddle bags as well as the two speakers in the front with a good amp is very much perfect to loud u can get. But what do I know? 😂 I’m on TH-cam watching cool shitt like this video here.

    • @pickitup1
      @pickitup1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeff H yea I cringed when I saw those tiny magnets but they work really well when you have something over you like a garage or overpass otherwise I don’t know if they are worth the trouble I often find myself feeling the saddlebags while riding to make sure the speakers are still working 😆

      Yes, we gave the feedback to our NPD engineers that designed the templates. They felt it was necessary to not circumvent the locking mechanism/hinge to ensure the template gets secured correctly to the baglid. You have one shot to get it right and we want to ensure the best outcome since this is a DIY kit. How much longer did it take you to remove and install the hardware? It only took us a couple extra minutes.

      @rockfordfosgate 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Sara! We hope not to disappoint. Hopefully you already have the bike flashed, have the bass turned all the way down, or have implemented another solution to get rid of that factory HD EQ curve. Happy New Year to you!

    I watched your video about a year ago and i'd love to hear your long term thoughts on these. I took your advise on the front speaker and bought a set and Ive had them about a year now and put in the same amp and they are really great speakers. Many years ago I had a audio shop in Queens NY in Ozone pk but never got into the bike only cars but that was from 1988 through 96. now i'm retired and living in Fl, and have a lot of time to ride and mod the bikes. Hope to hear back on how there holding up.

    • @pickitup1
      @pickitup1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      marvin R I wouldn’t do it again I feel like I ruined my saddle bags to hear music a little louder when I’m under overpasses. I don’t think you hear much difference while riding.
      I will have to check by disconnecting the rear.
      By the way one speaker is buzzing with certain songs so it’s probably about to blow

      Kirk Leaman they are good but one of the rear speakers tweeter came loose and would make a cracking sound at high power I sent them back and they were replaced with a new set. The tweeters also blew out on the rear and front speakers that were also rockfords after this video was made . Now I try not to have them on at 100% to avoid blowing the tweeters again.

  • @pickitup1
    @pickitup1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    After 4years what I found is the tweeters always blow even after the flash and lower power levels although the flash helped a little with longevity. The warranty works you just have to hope you blow them in time. Once the warranty is up I will not buy a 3rd set I’m looking for something else

      @pickitup1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s been so long but from what I remember there where outputs for rear speakers on the radio that I used but they only work if you flash the radio so you’ll have fader control otherwise you only use the front inputs on the amp and all four speakers work just no individual control front to rear

      The amp is in the fairing and there is a plastic channel on the frame under the tank that protects the harness, that’s where I ran the speaker wires.

I had exactly the same issue with a completely different RF amp some 20 years ago......TWO of them actually....the female jacks, soldered to the circuit board inside, started shorting out. I am surprised to find that the RF amps are still having this issue. Not sure what way to go now. Would you still get the TM400X4ad knowing now what you went thru?
    That all said, I started checking out your other videos. I ride a 2005 Honda VTX1800 so some of the HD specific stuff doesnt apply, but lots of good info in your videos! I, too, am a video buff (professional editor/shooter for decades) but haven't really gotten to the point yet where I combine my hobbies with video as much as I guess I could. Your stuff is really nice! Polished and professional work and quality. Nice job!

    Did it plug right up and work instantly or did you have to have your radio flashed at Harley to recognize the new bag speakers?

    • @pickitup1
      @pickitup1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It worked without the flash BUT I have blown all the tweeters multiple times. Since I had the radio flashed I have not blown any tweeters I don’t know if it’s because of the flash or I might consciously try to keep the volume a little lower. On a trip to sturgis 2021 I managed to cook a rear speaker but that might be because stuff shifted and touched the speaker. After a visit to the Rockford booth I was trying to purchase the new covers that come with the rear speaker kit now I was told just call customer support and they’ll send them to you free of charge. Now I don’t have to worry about melted items in the bags

    Would you still recommend these? I’m getting ready to do audio on my bike and I’m considering these.

    • @pickitup1
      @pickitup1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve Newcomb they sound great when you’re under an overpass or in a garage otherwise if I could do it again I would just get the best quality front speakers with amp. I think the passenger hears the tea speakers more than the driver

  • @pickitup1
    @pickitup1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s been 2 years and the tweeters have burned out 2 times on all the speakers front and back 😢 the first time they were a year old this time they are also just about a year old but 2 years and 8 days past original purchase date so they’re probably not covered under warranty 😠

    Nice video. How is the bass on those? Have you had any issues with them overheating when the bags are packed? I travel a lot and my bags are usually pretty full.

      @pickitup1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Bailey haven’t had any heat issues other than the magnets get warm . you should leave a little space between your stuff and speaker magnet. I rode for 5 days nyc to Dixie states and everything was fine

    I want to do the same thing but no one around to flash my sterio other then harley and they will use there boom technology but rockford calls for techno research to flash . Who did you use?

    • @pickitup1
      @pickitup1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Sipes I tried to have harley flash it but they are no longer able to flash for aftermarket amps. I just keep the bass really low and it works fine. One day I’ll have it flashed though

      @@pickitup1 thanks for fast response, rockford gives a list of flashers on there site in my case closest one is 2 hours away called techno they gave me a more detailed list but I couldnt keep up with the towns he was telling me so I could google map them . Rockford wants 1489 for the hd14rgsg stage 3 set up and offers no discounts that's 200 over my budget guess I'm looking for alternate solution

      Dave Stuart I have blown all the tweeters but they were covered under the warranty and the turn around was really fast (less than 2 weeks ) they sound good I’m not sure if I would do the rear speakers again but everyone’s situation is different the tears add some sound but I would like to have that extra few inches of space in the bags for the longer trips- really not a big deal breaker though

    Hey Manny, what fairing did you use for your King? I have a 2010 and I'm thinking of picking one up for winter.
    Nice review/how-to on these Fosgates. That's a slick setup. Hope it stays waterproof for you in the long term.

    • @pickitup1
      @pickitup1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks Brad the fairing is from here www.bikelifenation.net/shop/harley-batwing-fairing/batwing-road-king-fairing-for-harley-davidson-with-cut-outs/ It was not perfect but it was very cheap and did the job I wasn't sure I would like it if I knew how much I liked it on long rides I would have bought a higher quality batwing fairing

    • @BradMcCarty

      Hm. I'm kind of in the same boat. Considering Memphis Shades, or something from Reckless. I don't know that I want the audio stuff, so I at least get off cheaper there. I have a 20S in the full face, so I don't really need bike audio.

      The factory HD tune changes the sound as you speed up losing some performance. If you flash the system it removes those curves and allows full volume.
