  • Hey sorry guys for the bad audio on this. I want to do a better quality video on this subject in the future but am having some equipment issues.
Wanted to share what I have because I believe it's an important subject for working horses. Everybody does things in different ways. I like watching and learning from a variety of people.
Hope y'all enjoy and let me know what you think about it.

100% agree. I don't pull my horses. I recall at a pull as a kid I was sitting there beside a couple old guys and one teamster just walked his team up quietly by himself and hooked on, sat down on the loaded boat, and spoke to the team and they leaned in and walked off as if they were taking a load of manure out on the farm. The comment from the old guy beside me was "There's the picture of pulling". It has stuck with me and since then whenever I watch a pull and the ripping snorting, jerking, lunging theatrics I just shake my head and wonder.

💯 % Facts. The strongest gait is the walk. I was also taught when you stop is to teach them to keep the tugs tight and never let the evener touch the ground. They can cock their hips and rest just fine without taking that little step back. Also they would be so likely to get a leg over a tug for any reason neither and they will be on the loan kinda like Jeff was saying with the wagon on the hill.

Looks to me that your horses behave like true workhorses! The teamster makes the horse a workhorse building on the disposition of the horse.

Everyone else don’t do it because it takes effort and control and understanding of your team. If it was super easy everyone would do it. Plus maybe be it’s all they saw.

Thankyou guys for the insight on this topic. I just did some work in the woods for the first time pulling logs with my new team. Got one question for you. What about when one horse , he's a year older 6 than his brother 5. He seems to snatch a little because his brother is lazier and he wants to just get the load moving . Once the load starts off they will pull together. How do I get them to pull from the start better , and make the lazy boy step up his share. Thanks again for sharing.
