This song is perfect, I mean philosophically perfect. Full of details but at the same time nothing calls your attention. Everyone plays so exactly that it feels they are not playing at all. Sometimes it seems that they just gathered to play without rehearsal, while falling asleep. You can't see the edges of the artist's mind, it's so well ensembled, as a hole in a rock made by constant dripping of water for millenia. Like the platonic ideal of a jazz standard. I know Tao cannot be named or defined, but can be certainly listened here.
Beauty of jazz my friend. It’s like a mess, but an organized, designed, well constructed mess. A musical oxymoron of sorts, if any of that makes sense.

I'm not a drummer, but for some reason first thing that caught my ear were drums. Damn, so delicate and nuanced. Amazing dynamics. Really driving the whole thing forward.
Yeah, that's Akira Ishikawa for ya. He was usually the band leader, and it's easy to see why. I see him as basically Japanese Bernard Purdie, he was just so prolific, always at the centre of everything to do with funk/jazz/soul through the 60s and 70s. Then he seemed to disappear in the 80s when he was only in his fifties. I can't imagine he retired because that's basically a teenager for a jazz musician. I'd love to watch a documentary or read a biography about him, but I don't think there is one.

There's a newspaper interview with him from 2014, he speaks about his journey and the people he's played with etc, including playing in Las Vegas for 20 years which probably his explains his relatively few recording credits compared to his bandmates on this record. He said he developed a lung condition (COPD) around 2009 but was still playing trombone every day.

You probably have insomnia because of your highly developed brain, as a jazz connoiseur your near superhuman intelligence is keeping you up, i hope you are okay.
Yeah this is really an unknown gem. I found out about Suzuki through who sampled from an A Tribe Called Quest song he was sampled on
@@TheBaconBasket1 what song did tribe sample from his?
@@jaelsosa myfault, it wasnt an original tribe record that sampled this but a it was a J Cole remix to the song Can I Kick It.
Me either! Just found this gem today on an Instagram video! I Immediately researched it and NOW...it's saved on my most favorites playlist!
I loooove jazz its so relaxing, and makes me think of my home in jersey and my family in philly.
Everytime I listen to this, for some reason, I think of cruising downtown in the city of Pittsburgh at night or just looking down at their city lights from a really high hill. Idk it just goes together. ☺️

Nooooooo! I was going to sample this, but now I can't.
what... Why would you not want to sample it just for fun you don't even have to release it. Try make it original like using a different section of the sample or flipping the main catchy part in a unique way.
Purple Visuals Good point. I could probably make a house song out of it.

I remember as a kid my dad would put on some kind of easy listen station on pandora and we'd all clean up the house on a Saturday morning. This is one of the songs I remember playing every so often, never thought much about it but happy to have accidentally found it on YT on accident.
Musics The Hang Up ‘Pandora’ is a childhood memory of yours?? I’m officially and old bastard.
@@sniperslim I mean I'm 27 years old.. Pandora has been around since 2000. So like... idk 19 years is a pretty long time for memories to be made.
Lmao Pandora 😅
This shitt so smooth.....My Backwood getting jealous 💯
Agreed, though I am not hearing the Herbie Hancock influence as much as I am hearing the Bob James / Sonny Liston Smith influence.

Joshua Blomer time to go hacker mode or rip
When you see me in the streets, this is the background music playing in my head.
It is times like this that I’m thankful that I can sit back and listen to beautiful music like this and just freeze this moment for me in on this journey we call life just turn another year younger and this was truly a gift for my soul thank you for this bench and ocean view with that lovely sea breeze and no distractions just the fair lights that move across the city floor in the distance and the faint but distinctive smell of fresh pretzels and laughter but no words how delightful
Oh my god, this is spectacular.
walking down a cold dark street with a stray cat watching you as your breath vapors up in the air and your hands are tucked in your long leather coat, the light from the lamp post flickering, the sound of a police siren far in the distance, graffeties all over the old brick walls of the building around you with a story to tell, steam rising out of the sewers, the moon is there, but kinda shy behind the clouds, a homeless man looking threw the trash, an old lady looking at you from her window, a shoe hanging from a wire, old news papers drifing thru the wind across the old cracked street, an olderly man drinking coffe in the window of a small almost hidden coffe shop that looks way to old to still be opened. this is what i think when i listen to this song.
Holy ish. What a good track.😊
One of the hardest instrumentals of all-time! 🔥
