I can't believe this was in '85! She was literally famous one month later. I don't think anyone who didn't witness this happening in real time will ever know how much of an impact she had on all of our lives. In so many ways. God, I miss her. 💜

Her voice is so relaxed and open. The versatility her voice has seems effortless and natural. You can hear Cissy's style in her at this time. Not a lazy vocal moment..

You have over 60 comments on this channel, if Whitney was so bad why do you continue to listen?? I'm willing to bet this a black man catfishing as a random woman he found on the internet. I think Whitney had two voices. 1985-1997 Sweet, delicate, crystalline 1998-2011 Rich, dark, smoky, sultry. She never really lost it; it just changed colors.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 ปีที่แล้ว +38

I agree with what you've said but I'd go further and say I actually thing she had 4 distinct stages to her vocals.
85-90 is like you said, sweet and delicate yet powerful and clear as a bell. 91-96 was the thick/deep and resonant sound but still with purity and clarity in the head voice. 97-02 was also like you said, the dark, smoky RnB queen with a subtle rasp. 03-12 I would say were her years of obvious and undeniable vocal decline, dry/husky sounding and obvious loss of range, but still a warm rich tone in her lower/mid range.
I often wonder how much of the change was natural vs how much of it was due to smoking. And of course we all know about her troubles later on which did her voice no favors at all but either way, she will always be one of my favorite singers of all time. She was truly gifted.

      She was a smoker

    • @kumputerlova78
      @kumputerlova78 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@@soundseeker63 her smoking Cigarettes caused her to lose her Range because when I smoke Weed with cigar paper, I began to lose my range as well. Soon as I stop smoking, my Range came back just as strong as it was in my early 20’s so it's the Newports that did it. She would've been able to hit her ranges had she stopped smoking and had time to let it's clear up, it's not her vocal chords but her ability to Hold the Range, do to lack of Air 💨 Still a phenomenal singer my favorite of all times!!

The best singers ever have one thing in common: SOUL. No matter the genre we all know soul when we hear jt, Clive davis had a real talent in recognizing when an artist has it. Nowadays artists try to fake it but it's hard to and the best of all time didn't fake it. It was all them and touched everyone no matter the shade, nation, etc. I don't know if there will be another era of superstars like whiteney and her contemporaries in the 90s

Until somewhere end of 85' or early of 86', she did more improvisation on vocal acrobatic and hence developed stronger vocal which brought her career up to the ceiling. How I wish her voice can stay longer for her career.

Tears in my eyes listening to this powerful dynamic vocal delivery from mom & daughter, Cissy & Whitney Houston! Whitney Houston is still so loved & missed! 🤭😪💔 Thing is, this was very early on, before fame. And even right during that moment in time, Whitney was a regular cigarette smoker, & was already dabbling & using "party favors". Cissy knew it because she had been told by someone very close to Whitney, who was concerned about how often Whitney was doing it. Cissy chose to turn a blind eye, not wanting to acknowledge information given, and probably hoping that it would "just go away".....but these were the 80s and that stuff was everywhere available to everybody......& her beautiful talented daughter was no exception! I wish Cissy had paid closer attention back then, threatened Whitney with her singing career (consequences for her choices) & really put her foot down! Had she and Whitney's father put a stop to it in the beginning perhaps Whitney would have been able to get control of herself as far as liking doing "party favors" & kicking that urge before it became habitual.....leading to years of addiction. So sad the way it turned out and ended up for Whit! That beautiful woman should still be here. Nobody held her accountable for things. They called themselves trying to help her when it was too late!

    *LYRICS*
    If I lose this dream
    I don’t what I’m gonna do
If I lose my dream, I’m dreaming from the end for you…
    If it goes away
I might as well hang it up
    Because I don’t know
I think I have the heart & mind
    To make it come true
    & help it to grow
    & I know, I know, I know…
    If I lose my dream
    It’s goodbye love and happiness
So you’re the one I need
    I don’t want a love that’s second best.
There’s been things in all my life
    That I’ve had to do
& they gave me the blues
Help me hold onto my dream
Cuz I know somehow my dream is gonna come true
    Yes, & it’ll come true
It’ll come true for me baby & for you
But don’t let me lose this dream
    Baby, baby hold on
Don’t let me lose this dream
    Baby, baby be strong
See, if you believe that what I say is true (hey, hey, hey)
That I’m the one & only girl for you (just a minute baby)
    No matter what
The people may say (hey, hey, hey)
I know that you’re in my corner
    All the way!
    Just don’t let me
    Lose this dream! (This dream)
    Baby, baby, hold on
Don’t let me lose this dream (my dream)
You gotta hold on (hold on)
    Be strong (be strong)
    Hold on (hold on)
    Be strong (be strong) x7
    Oh don’t let me
    Lose this dream (this dream)
    Baby, baby, hold on
    Hey!
Don’t let me lose this dream (my dream)
    Baby! Baby! Be strong

My my my. Two of the greatest vices ever. Whitney so young and strong vocally. Those voices are gifts from God. This right here should’ve been a video showing mom and daughter in action.

Chills and I'm a pretty good singer with an impeccable ear. She IS the greatest there will ever be! Thank god her mother gave her the training coupled with the experience, and Clive with his expertise as well to make the perfect team to help take her as far as they could. We are so fortunate to receive her gift and she praised God the whole way through !

Amazing! 😍 This is what I imagine Whitney sounded like in church when she was learning her craft as a teenager. Raw, powerful, bright and boundless energy. More enthusiasm than control, but you can tell she's a truly gifted singer even though she's still learning her techniques and approaches to different songs. Even a year later from this she sounded less church girl and more pop star in her singing style, but the raw power and delicate poise was very much still there.
