    Super idea for a sliding box and can be used as a pencil box as well.

    I make boxes with a sliding lid so this dovetail project looks quite interesting ! Been awhile since my router seen any action so I'm gonna make one out of pine and see if this might be my new way to making my boxes. What a clever idea Newton !

    Hey there wanted to let you know i loved this video and found this while searching for inspiration for my self directed project at school made out of wood. I wanted to know if it would be okay if i could make this? If so, would you mind perhaps listing down how to make this or the measurements for each wooden cut and length, width, etc? Hopefully you see this in time so I don’t fall behind, thank you so so much :)!!

    You tube must read my mind i was just thinking that i want to add a sliding dovetail attachment to work bench so i can slide in a bench vise when i want it then remove and add flat surface when don’t need it. This video is perfect timing

  • @ping170
    @ping170 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool idea and (seems) pretty simple to built 👍
    What about slicing the initial block in 3 parts (thin/thick/thin) for the bottom/middle/top and then breaking the middle block in 2 sides and one center part that will still hav to be hollowed before gluing back all together to make a box with maximal continuity of the woodgrain ? 😅 Pretty much more work I guess, and saw kerf will have to be dealt with, which might not be this easy... 🤔

    • @NewtonMakes
      @NewtonMakes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent!!!!! I did this type of boxes in the past as a gift for different friends but no more,,,,,I know what you are doing with all this effort when I gave them out all I got was rather lacksidaisical "cool" or "that’s nice" so I quit casting pearls before swine and keep them around my home and shop and if they really like something and want to know about work and sweat and throw in words like "family heirloom" or "that is beautiful" and "I could pass it on to my kids", then I might give it to them….but for most part people don’t appreciate the skill and sweat that goes into making it, so I’m somewhat stingy about giving out projects…..but congrats on your skill set and sweat. I hope you don’t "cast pearls before swine" and give it to a person that will treasure it ok just keep it from some clown using it to hold crazy glue or greasy gun parts …….nicely done!!!!

    Beautiful box but not sure why he has all the hand tools on the wall behind him. His machines did all the woodworking. All he did was press "on" buttons, push, press, rub, and then wipe. Nothing like seeing a master craftsman. Thanks.
