That was a very poorly constructed experiment. I'm starting to question their credentials. I don't think these people are real scientists. They could've used a smaller ball so that sasha's hands would have the same proportions as shaq without having him loose sensation. You also make the ball lighter to simulate shaq's strength and you lower the rim to make them match height.
@@nlnooonln Because they were trying to prove the point that it has to do with muscle memory, obviously Sasha is not used to shooting on a 9 or 8 foot rim.
I'm a Lakers fan and I remember Sasha during the championship run and really liked him on our team. I think he helped the Lakers more than he hurt and obviously both Phil and Fish agree. Welcome back to the NBA Sasha.
lirpa5 Knicks needed a shooting guard that can complement melo and the a vet that can hit that three. I was hoping for a european player like this because there arn't many good three point nba players left that would take vet minimum. Two rings and familiar with the triangle is a big plus.
Sasha has also been trained as a shooter while shaq worked on post moves, it's even stated in the video that sasha has taken over 5,000 free throws. I doubt shaq has practiced his shooting that much. The two are incomparable and always will be.
You can obviously tell that Shaq is just bad. Dikembe Mutombo had a career .68 percentage and Yao Ming had a .88 free throw percentage. And both are taller than Shaq
They did that wrong they should have lowered the rim to make it proportion with Shaq and a 10ft rim and got a smaller ball to mimic how the proportion of how big Shaq hand is to a regular ball
Exactly, well said. They made his hands bigger, but those new hands are loose, he's still using his shorter real fingers to get grip of the ball and shoots it that way, that's why he makes the shot all the time.
Ikr? Never heard of him till this episode. You can free throw till the cows come home...but if your not on the court to ever get fouled...idk what to tell ya
david webb he is not a star by any stretch of imagination but he did some clutch af free throws to help get lakers the win in game 7 2010 finals. plus he also got to bang maria sharapova
if you were to enlarge the hands you would have to adjust the arms length that way they release the ball at the correct trajectory + the same goes for the legs and knee bends
In have heard countless times that Shaq shot around 70-80% in practice consistently throughout his career, he said he thinks his struggles were just all mental after awhile, and he could just never get his technique down. These tests are ridiculous, of course his height doesn't matter, Yao Ming was 5 inches taller than Shaq and was money from the foul line. I think it is all about technique, muscle memory, and the mental aspect of being confident shooting from the foul line.
This is super funny.... why not just change the basketball size and lower down the basket rather than make a super giant hand and increase this guy height....zzzz
This science has displayed what what shear practice, discipline and will power can achieve. Regardless of distractions, if you want something, you can achieve it. inspiring.
its how you control the ball like Yao Ming does. I would also compare it with Dart game, they have different sizes of players but the winner is the one that has great control over his body, yet in consideration for Basketball the ball remains the same size unlike in dart fro which the pin can vary.
Yeah, I wasn't sure about the test either, and immediately thought what you thought. Difference would be though is Shaq has been playing on a "Shaq-sized" court all of his life. It would be Sasha's first go at a mini-court. Guess that's why they didn't change it cuz that's a constant in basketball. Anywhere you go the rim is always 10 feet.
+Reggie “Batman” Hammond nigga wtf i didnt even see the comment until now. I just speak my mind when i see the video. I didnt scroll down to read comments. I aint tryna be thirsty for likes i guess we both had the same idea nigga damn calm yo ass why u get so mad over a simple coincidence. I will admit that other guy had a better more detailed comment now that I read it.
They should have gotten someone who is well known for high free throw percentages like Nash or Dirk, maybe even Yao since hes pretty good for a 7'6" center.
he can't shoot them because of his strength and the size of his shoulders. If you think about it all bad free throw shooters were extremely strong and had wide shoulders. Wilt chamberlain, shaq, Dwight Howard, deandre Jordan. The list goes On.
Its true, the wide shoulders cause extreme tension and muscle pull in his arm. However there is away around it because there are big guys who can shoot, what shaq needed was a more extreme shoulder back sway, a higher release, and turned feet.
I guess that's the point. Different players have different strengths. Shaq has big hands, body size and strength and struggles from the FT line. Kawhi Leonard has huge hands, smaller size and not the strength and shoots 85%. Greg Smith has huge hands, but shoots 65%. It comes down to hand eye coordination imo, with factors of size, weight, dexterity and ability. Differs with each player.
What is this bullshit about his hands being too big or him being too tall?! There are a HANDFUL of players that have bigger hands or are taller than Shaq who can knock down free throws all day. What an excuse! He can't shoot them because he has terrible form.
No, he can't shoot them because of his strength and the size of his shoulders. If you think about it all bad free throw shooters were extremely strong and had wide shoulders. Wilt chamberlain, shaq, Dwight Howard, deandre Jordan.
if they lower the hoop by the same amount as they raised him up, it would have the same effect? if they make the ball smaller then his hands will be bigger in relation to the ball, because if you think about it his actual hands here are still the same size in relation to the ball, so what he does is the same, he just has some rubber flicking around at the end up his hands?
You're right, they should have changed the diameter and moved it closer too but even with the change in flight pattern, I think the results would be more realistic than having the guy stand on stilts and wear giant hands.
Honestly, giving him a small ball and a smaller rim in proportion to his size would have been a better simulation. Also, shaq has been in the nba for 18 years, by now memory should have kicked in
That is just an excuse. Shaq made hook shots, finger rolls, banks shots off the glass in the paint and all kinds of post moves. Those shots do take wrist movement, if not more. Wrist is also used dribbling in the post. If you practice & actually adjust your shot, you can make a good % of FTs or any shot. Try shooting with a cast on your dominant hand & tell me that after one day of shooting FTs with it on, that you cant increase your %. I bet you will see an increase in just an hour.
When he managed to get those 2 free throws in and secure our victory in game 7 final over our arch enemy boston celtics something even ginobilli and leonard couldn't do.
the point is anyone can make 10 free throws in a row if u do it all at once, its muscle memory. i suck and i can do it. but that doesnt make me a 100% free throw shooter, and it doesnt even mean id be a better free throw shooter than shaq. they say dwight makes 80-90% in practice but in games he's at 49%. so him making 9/10 in a row in an empty gym is no indicator of his in game free throw percentage.
you are right, maybe I was a little too harsh, but he definitely is not a "star", that's like calling jameer nelson a star when in reality he's just an average NBA player, which don't get me wrong is still impressive.
Perhaps it was based on availability. I'm guessing big-name guys like Dirk, Nash, Ray Allen, Billups, etc. didn't have time in their schedule to do something like this.
"I want to be over 90, 95 (percent), around that." Well, at least Sasha dreams big. Steve Nash shoots an NBA best 90.4% from the line for his career, and Sasha is no Steve Nash.
The height thing is bull. Yao Ming had a career FT of .833
its more of hard work
That was a very poorly constructed experiment. I'm starting to question their credentials. I don't think these people are real scientists. They could've used a smaller ball so that sasha's hands would have the same proportions as shaq without having him loose sensation. You also make the ball lighter to simulate shaq's strength and you lower the rim to make them match height.
very fair words
its easier to make the gloves and stilts
I still shoot decently with a smaller ball and rims.. shaq just really sucks at FTs.
Height is not an excuse in terms of free throws
@@SANTPERExGUÈMOL808 yep that’s right
why don't they just shrink the ball and make the hoop smaller?
I'm pretty sure plastic hands are less expensive than that...

It's not shaq didn't care about free throws, it's because of the strength and the size of his shoulders as you said.
Yes but Karl Malone didn't have the strength shaq did.
@@elseeye look at his shooting mechanics you can’t shoot better than 50% with that shooting form and he doesn’t changed its
made him gloves, instead of just lower the basket and get a smaller ball relative to sasha and shaq's size haha
NBA "star" Sasha Vujacic
He is a star, he won championships
+Macho Munkey iced game 7 in 2010 finals
+Macho Munkey You mean pornstar?
He made the game winning free throws in game 7 in the 2010 finals do u know how much pressure there is to do that that's a star to me

+Rickey Young but the smaller ball would have a higher chance of going in
then shorten the rim
make it more narrow

Some saying they don't who Sasha is. Well has 2 rings with the Lakers. The machine.
NBA STAR : Sasha Vujacic... this is a fake video ?

which is weird
+donovan doyal look at his ft rating tho

maybe because he can't showcase his skills anymore unlike when he's on the 2009 and 2010 lakers

star of the bench.
bench warmer*

He can roll his shoulders backwards when shooting to release tension in his shoulders though.
Maybe they were calculating the ideal force his muscles would have to produced (at ~45 degree angle and his specific height) to make it to the basket.
Lol Yao Ming is bigger than Shaq and shoots above 80%. Shaq like Chamberlain are just lazy for this shit
they should take into account the mass of fans waving the stick things and the deafening sound of the arena
