About this channel: We are the Smith's. A Christian family of 6, living in the country just outside of Georgetown, Texas. Good call ... living in the country is different than living in the city.
No need to apologize, so many people who live on acreage and have young children, animals and pets have to defend their family from anything or anyone that will harm them.
That poor unfortunate dog was in a bad way, starving, maybe rabid and was threatening to harm anyone or anything who got in its way.

You did the right thing. As a livestock owner, I've had my hens destroyed by the neighbors dog. I've had 3 sheep taken in one night by a bear. Living in the Rocky Mountains isn't for the faint of heart. Thank you for helping your family. There are also laws regarding dogs that roam.

When you started telling the story, I immediately thought of London and how she is with animals and Maverick, how he is an outside boy. I live in a semi rural area, backing to a National Forest, we see so many stray dogs, and after a while, hunger and pain make animals once pets, hungry and desperate. Glad you took care of the dog and protected your family and animals.
I've been a dog rescuer for 24 years. You are absolutely right. You could have called animal control but the end result would have been the same. Liability is too high for that dog to have been re-homed.
And you are worse than they are being and dog rescuer....please get out of that business...

We recently had a stray cat after our cat in the middle of the night. Our cats have been injured before which resulted in sickness and vet visits. Our dog took matters into her own paws/teeth and my husband had to finish it. I posted it on FB and stressed to others in our area to be responsible pet owners, spay and neuter your critters, and don't expect to toss them out down the road at the first barn you see. It's not all sunshine and lollipops here in the real world, and Granger, you did exactly what my husband would have done!

You absolutely did the right thing. People who live in the city don’t understand that you have few options out in the country. A lot of rural areas don’t have animal control or something similar. A dog behaving like that was definitely a threat to all of you and your animals.
I live all my life in a small vilage i never saw no one killing animals ,
Now i live in a small city and still nobody is killing animals its weird that how it is .
We hade raccoons and still do they look so angry and starve we are not allowed killing them ,
I woulnt be able to do it ,we have deer behind are house to,i told my friend someday we will see bears
I think its going to be a zoo someday ,
I understand what he die even i dont like he kill a dog but he honest and the dog was at is home ,
So may we woulnt have a choice to when it come to raccoons they live under are garage they dont come out in the day,
My friend would want to do what granger did i just say no i think its wrong or cruel.

I live in a small town here in Texas in the city limits I have issues with stray dogs but I Found out by law. if they Attacked us Are coming at us. on our property. We have the right to protect ourselves. You did the right thing You was protecting your family.

Where I live I can’t ever get our animal control officers to show up to my house and apparently we live at a dumping ground out here in the country. Also had an elderly man attacked not far from us by 2 dogs this week and he passed away 😢

Hey, when my son was about 10 the neighbor moved off and left his pit in a huge cage. He came back a couple of times a week to water and feed but then stopped. The pit dug out and went down to another neighbor and killed a half grown pup, dragged it back to the yard and ate it. Then that same afternoon he was stalking my 10 yr old. I got out my 30-30 and no more problem. One shot and it was taken care of. You do what you have to do to protect your family, no matter what. My son is now going to turn 50 in the fall. Nuff said!

Good call. It needed to be done! My perspective on dogs has changed so much since having kids. It's just not worth the risk! We have had multiple maulings in our area lately.. children and elderly, and varying dog breeds!

You did the right thing. You are your family’s protector and this is something that had to be done. If the dog did wonder off who knows what could have happened to someone else. I love my animals, but there has to be common sense when dealing with an animal like this. It was a wise decision to protect all.

Anyone that would be upset doesn’t understand what living in the country is like. When you see a fire coming towards your home, you don’t wait until your house is burned down to put it out. You have to spring into action to defend your property & family. You did the right thing Granger. We’ve had to put animals down for killing our livestock too: no one likes to do it, but sometimes in life you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. I’m glad you saw it before it had a chance to get any of your animals or god forbid lunges at one of the kids
Anyone who would be mad, angry or upset about what you had to do obviously has no clue. I love your genuineness, honesty and the way you guys make sh*t real. Obviously it’s unfortunate for this animal but you did the right thing for the animal, your family and other family’s that may have come in contact with this dog. I was but when I was 7 I had 66 stitches inside and outside my lip. I LOVE dog (animal’s) but I also no the horror of waiting to see if the animal or I have rabies and all the consequences that come with that. I also had to go see a plastic surgeon. Thank God🙏🏻🙏🏻 I didn’t get rabies or have to go through the shots. Sorry for the story long story short. You did the right thing🙏🏻🙏🏻

Your honesty is important, and thank you for sharing this with us. I've been out in the back country and watched an animal tear up another animal. I didn't have a weapon like you did, and I wish I had. Rabies is a very real and dangerous disease to be exposed to.

Granger, I have to agree that you did the right thing. The animal could have harmed a family member or your wife or Mother. The problem I have is going into details. Your wife tried several times to cut you off with good advice about how you told the world. I have no problem with what you did. I was raised on a farm and my Grandfather had to put a few dogs down for aggression etc. Next time listen to Amber who is trying to protect your good name. She was right on. Not sure how I feel about you making a video with all the details? I have been in the music business over forty years and recently retired. I would have kept this private. Governor Kristi Noem made a similar mistake in her recent book about putting a dog down. I hope you did not harm your reputation. Too late now. Unless one lives in the country, people don't realize how many dogs have been let go, dropped off, etc., because people can't feed them any longer. We see too many stories where someone was mauled to death by a dog(s). Agree with your deed.

You have every right to do what you do to protect life and loved ones . I have had goats killed by stray dogs. Not a good situation. I did trap the dogs in the garage with food and I called animal control . I was called later only to find out the animal control officer located the owners of the dogs. It was an award situation. We knew the people. BUT the dogs were put down. Once an animal taste blood like that ,they would return to prey. Glad that’s behind me! When in the farm life , you do you!!
