I just purchased the FN 509 Tactical and did an exhaustive search for a holster and am so glad to come across your review of Tier 1. I am purchasing this holster because of your review which was very clear and concise with no BS fluff. Thanks for the information!!!!
William Taylor. Thanks man. That's the reason I put this holster up as soon as I did after receiving it. In my standard fashion, I like to have things for a while before I give my opinion on it. But with this being my 4th holster purchase from Tier 1 Concealed, I already knew that the quality wasn't going to be anything to worry about, so I wanted to get it out there for more people to see how their mechanism worked
@@sulivanmagnum OK thank you. I have a weapon light on my 509 but recently purchased a 502. FN told me that they are the same size so holsters should be interchangeable. It would be nice to train with my 22 and not have to buy a TLR7 a for $130. I know Daras retention is purely on the flashlight, with only 2 retention tightening screws. It seems like the holsters with more screws will actually retain a firearm without the flashlight. T1 Concealment is on of my only options at this point. Otherwise I could purchase the qd mount and order 2 separate holsters..
Been looking for a 6354DO for my roland special. I have one for my PMM P320, they work tremendously. I ordered a centurion for my G34. Your video just makes me even more excited to look forward to it. 🤙🤙
I’m a huge fan of Tier1 Concealed. I already have their Axis Elite appendix holster along with several of their morale patches and apparel. I just ordered the Centurion holster for my Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS with a Streamlight TLR-8AG. I also got the Safariland plate and fork along with the SAFARILAND SINGLE STRAP LEG SHROUD W/ DFA. Hopefully everything flows well with my Kore Essentials battle belt and Scorpion G-Code soft shell mag pouches. Luckily the holster will also work with the Gen 5 Glock 17/19X/44/45…, I’m still not sure what my next Glock will be. I’m leaning more towards the 19X or 45 MOS. Love the Gen 5s since I’m left handed.
Good review. I recently picked one up and it looks like they changed the release mechanism. Just push it backwards now. And one thing that did surprise me, like you mentioned, is how much more wider it is than the safariland 6354do.
I have played with a spetzgear holster that has the same mech for thumb release, and it could be/ most likely is a training issue, but I still prefer this mechanism over the newer one they utilize. Where it is wider and sits farther from the body, it is great for drawing when wearing armor with side armor and/or pouches. Whats your opinion of the holster so far, and what pew did you get it for?
@@gunsgearcoffee5322 yeah, I could see where the wider and just push inward could be easier/smoother. I bought it for the x300 and Zev oz9. You could use a 17,19, etc as well. Overall I like it. It looks like you have an older thumb break. I have a newer one, and the break rocks backwards instead of pushing down. Makes it a less consistent draw. I somewhat regularly fail to break it, and hit the hood.
A $30 lavalier mic will do wonders. The audio will be better than your camera/phone and it'll be easier to center the sound between left and right. Other than that, great video.
I opted for the thicker kydex because of it being an outside the waistband holster. Additionally, I have warped a bravo concealment holster with the thinner kydex due to excess barrel/slide heat and then doing a one hand manipulation drill off of it. I wouldn't change anything about the configuration I have this holster in.
If you haven’t ordered yet or for anyone else wondering definitely get the thicker kydex. It’s not a concealment holster so the thickness won’t matter there, what you get is a much more rigid holster, better protection, and more consistent draw. There is no downside. For USPSA most of us are running even thicker double layer 0.093 (0.186 total) holsters as standard, they move around on your belt way less.
hey man, did you over build yours? Upgrade to Premium Kydex+? Thicker Material? Buy Support Piece? Im looking at buying now and would appreciate your input. thank you!
I did. Sorry for the late response..I upgraded to the thicker kydex, but there wasn't an option for the support piece at the time of my purchase, as it was newly released when I bought it.
I'm looking to get this and hope it can work with a compensator! I'll be calling tomorrow to check. Maybe a dremel or file would do the trick? What do you think?
@@gunsgearcoffee5322 I just emailed the company and they said, "As long as you indicate you have a comp in the order notes, that will work with all of our holsters." Sounds just vague enough that I'm skeptical but here's to hoping lol
I have no experience with Dara, but I can guarantee that T1C make their holsters for good duty/combative applications. I believe they both use the same thumb release systems now.
Just picked one up. It’s very tight on the pistol and some of the kydex is scraping off where the slide rubs. Did you have this issue with your 509? Is this a normal break in scenario?
That is normal for most all kydex holsters that don't have "click" retention where it indexes around the trigger guard, thus allowing it to be a little more loose around the slide portion of the firearm. Also, guns with forward slide serrations will wear down the material as well, however it is just a break in period. Before you locktite any of the screws, I would recommend drawing as many times as possible, to wear in the kydex where marring patterns are beginning and then adjust your retention as needed when the loctite is applied.
Thanks for the feed back. This is my first no-click holster and it seemed like too much of a struggle to draw the pistol to the point I was lifting my pants up. I’ll give it some time. Thanks again and keep up the quality content!
@@adamgooch7422 keep in mind all the screws along the edge as well as near the trigger guard are for adjustable retention. Play with those and dial in your intended draw stroke.
i just got mine today. The black hood strap on mine has a lot of play in it. when i took it down to retighten, it may appear the hole for the screw is cut to big. are you experiencing the hood getting loose after mild usage? have you taken that portion down?
I have not taken it down. It came with locktight from t1c on that screw. There is a lot of back and forth play in the outside portion of the holster, but the screw is solid and I think is cut that wide so that it can perform in the manner that it does.
Still going strong! From what I have seen, they have updated their hood closure, but mine being the original still performs as well as the day I got it.
I cant out draw the speed of the hood moving forward, however if you don't actuate the system before drawing upwards, the rear of the slide will come into contact with the hood and will not move forward until the gun is pushed back down into the holster.
@@isaacragsdale999 yes you can draw without the hood smoothly. It is just like a kydex holster where you can adjust retention to your desired fit/ tension

Absolutely. At first, there was a huge learning curve. By at first, I literally mean one day. I did a ton of dry fire my first night recieving it, and since then, it has become second nature. With a glock 19 in this holster, since it was made for a 509 T, I do find myself hanging up on it more frequently because there is a few less millimeters of clearance between the hood assembly and the striker plate on the glock than that of the 509. This was as much of a learning curve compared to my experience of switching from a level 1 holster (friction fit kydex only), to the Safariland ALS system - a "level 2" holster (has a secondary locking system, even though, other than gravity in an upright position, the Safariland 6354DO doesn't have another securing mecanism/feature). That to me is where this holster really shines. Plus it looks damn good.
