I bought a tiny greenhouse and now before I build it, I'm thinking I want a bigger one like yours. I like the idea of putting a patio set in there and just enjoying coffee in a warm greenhouse
So very thrilled to have two of you together and accessible through TH-cam.......this platform is the same as receiving a priceless gift! Thank you! glenn
Kevin mentioned that you don't do any fancy editing. I, personally, like your style of editing. It's plain and simple like the 2 of you seem to be. No frills, bells, or whistles. Just plain down to earth people sharing their talents. Just a thought, have you ever thought of doing a short blooper reel st the end of a video. I think it would be cute to see. While I will never homestead, I enjoy watching you. I know where my food comes from but it's nice seeing it on a small scale to really appreciate all the work that goes into bringing my food to the store.
They are doing a great job without any help on their videos!! Their old videos used to have a short intro!! Maybe including a short intro to their current videos would be a nice added touch!!
How else can you succeed if you don't try. And if you try you are going to fail from time to time. That is called learning. It involves trail, error, success, and failure.
From KY: Your chicken moat has been a lifesaver for my garden! AND didn’t cost me a fortune, and your hoop house build as well. In fact, I have learned so much from the two of you. Thank you for what you do. ❤
I so appreciate how you do your Q&A's I hate most lives as they are constantly interrupted with interacting with the audience. making the live a waste of time, in fact I skip most of those.😍💞🙏
We had a great Christmas. Our weather is crazy! No snow and very mild! The scammers are out of control! I was hacked last year and lost control of my channel for a week. It almost made me quit, but then the scammers win!
I like to watch the Q&A videos. I almost didn’t click on this one because I don’t have trouble figuring out scams. It would be good if you could put “Q&A” in the title. Thanks!
Thank you for always keeping us informed on everything around the homestead!! I figured that your current property would be your final move as it seems to be working out great for the both of you!! As for the scammers, anyone can fall victim!! It just takes the right people at the right time and the right situation!!
Have you ever considered getting a couple of sheep to help with the mowing? Or perhaps goats. I don’t know if sheep or goats can be put with chickens but they can be moved from area to area to get the mowing done and with sheep you could butcher one a year for lamb chops (yummy) or leg of lamb. Thank you for all you do for us amateurs and newbies, I have learned so much from you both and appreciate your subtle witness of your love for our Lord. God bless your family.
Funny story about chickens (Silkies in particular). My daughter called me in hysterics one day, hardly able to breathe she was laughing so hard. She owned Silkies and Brahamas and was confident that the little Silkie rooster would be unable to breed the big Brahma hens. Until one day she stepped out her side door and saw her Silky Rooster stalking a trio of big hens. as soon as he saw them wander near a cement block. He ran over to that block and jumped on it and then from there to the nearest hen. She thought this was a fluke until she saw him do it again. Moral of the story...don't depend on size to keep your breeds pure. :D
The best thing I did on the homestead was raising sheep.i use a hot wire to keep them where I want them. I even let them mow our 3 acre yard around the house. My big mistake was fencing. I used a lot of 4 foot tall welded wire for several thousand feet. For a buck a foot more I could have used something a cow couldn't destroy. Also run water lines everywhere so you don't need to haul water and break ice. Happy New Year to everybody.
Thanks for sharing with us Sarah and Kevin. Stay safe up there in the bad weather. Have a Happy New Year. Sure enjoyed the weather in the greenhouse. Fred.
To the person who is looking for local lard: Check out your local farmers market there is usually people who are selling the meat they have raised. You can get lard cheap. I get mine for $1 a pound from a lady at my local farmers market
Great idea that I will try. The butchers around here quoted me $18.00 a pound for fat that I would render myself. Won't pay such a ridiculous price. That was in the summer so the price wasn't related to needing it during deer processing. They're just trying to take advantage of anyone trying to prep.
I transplanted my Meyer lemon tree and my three foot tall avocado tree and brought them inside and after my avocado tree shed it’s leaf’s from transplant shock, a tomato sprouted in its planter (no dirt from tomatoes came near it 😳). Now 3” tall.
In west Michigan All the meat goes to a meathouse then goes to “stores” The meat is horrible like we dont eat it. My husband drove a two hour radius and its All the same. We are selling our home and we will get our own cow in Texas
You know the heating cable/line that people run along the edge of the roof to keep ice from forming/building? Well you can use that in raised beds and then use a low tunnel for growing more during the coldest months. Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.
The aging issue I think is a big one to consider. Several others have mentioned it as well, Danny and Wanda from Deep South Homestead, it's an area we have to really consider as we age. Something as simple as where to put your compost pile, becomes an important choice. Appreciate your videos and honesty. Thanks
Danny and Wanda are much older than Kevin and Sarah who are only 47. But in Homesteading you have to think ahead so there aren't major redo's down the road.
We are 74 and we are definitely getting things prepared for the least amount of fix and repair (fencing with t-posts instead of wooden posts, metal raised beds, permanent strong houses for chickens).
It's very frustrating that they don't do anything about them. There's one that's posted hundreds of those comments on another channel I watch and I've reported them at least a hundred times. They're still there, same exact account.
a thought for the summer is to fence the ends of the long driveway for the cow to eat along the drive to save on mowing it. also is to have a mower with a catcher on it to only mow a small section each day to use as food for the animals, like the driveway would be to only travel on one side down and back for a load and next day the other side. can place the clippings into the mott as a pile for the chickens to scratch as a compost pile.
Its unfortunate that scammers are coming up with new scams every day. Iam grateful for channels like Trilogy Media, Scammer Payback, Modder Paul Scambaits, Scammer Revolts, who go after these Scammers on a daily basis. Thank you Living Tradition Homestead for talking anout this.
We bought hog fat and beef suet from a local processing plant ( very reasonably priced) and rendered them ourselves for enough lard and tallow for the next year.
Wonderful greenhouse & your hard work has taught you & all of us! You’re blessings to the world! Thanks for sharing & taking the time to do this. Blessings to everyone 🤗💗🇨🇦
Well, for many decades became very clear how many be Lie ve everything they see on their holy tell Lie vision, convinced the truth is to find there. So this is not a surprise to me.
I have an attached harbor freight 6 by 10 greenhouse to my chicken coop, a few weeks ago (when it was cold), i caught them all in there hanging out at say 3pm. It freaked me out when I went to feed them, they were all gone. But the sun was heating in there just enough.
I love you two very much and can't wait for the next video. I've always wanted to know how's come you never show your beagles. I grew up with beagles and love them dearly. I lost my two dogs in the same year due to old age. One was a choc. Lab and the a Brittany Spaniel. I miss them so terribly. I have M.S. and they were more than just dogs to me. My other question is what do you with your old tshirts? If you throw them away would you consider sending them to me instead? I make rugs out of old tshirts and give them away. Thank you so much for doing what you do and letting me be apart of your homestead. Love in Jesus Christ, Cheri
Thanks for another great learning video. Every video I’ve watched on your channel has given me so much to think about. Again, thank you for sharing your experiences and time. Sending Blessings and good health to both of you. God Bless.
Love watching the videos, and keeping up with LTH. God has certainly blessed you for your efforts and honoring Him in all you do. Blessings from Arizona.

Mornin Kevin and Sarah, Scammers are gettin out of control. Callin on phones and on the internet ( youtube ) there needs to be a way to stop them . They even call later in the evenin . God bless y'all and Happy New Year
A lot of scammers are in India and they are so dense they don't pay attention to tome zones. There are some channels worth watching where the scammers get scammed. Payback.
I don't answer my phone if the caller isn't in my address book and I'm not expecting a callback. Especially if it's not the normal phone calling hours. Also don't give out any personal information, even your name because most of the callers have no idea who they're calling or where they are calling. If they tell you you owe money or have won a prize tell them to send the information to you via the address on file and hang up. Don't confirm your address or phone number. If they're legit they would already have that info on file 😊
I agree! If you don’t recognize the phone number, then don’t answer. If someone calls and I don’t answer, then leave a message. I will call them back asap. 😊
Your videos are great entertaining and educational and inspiring. I love your farm I love your cooking videos I love it all!! I have a small yard so watching all you homesteaders sort of feeds my addiction to farm everything!! I'm lucky to live near several farms I can drive by to see the chickens who lay the eggs I eat and the veggies I can buy from them seasonally.
Maybe if the blue haired keyboard commandos at youtube spent more time cleaning up scammers, they'd have less time to randomly unsub subscribers, delete comments and censure content.
Ty for explaining about scammers!! To many ppl r getting scammed cuz they dont realize what it is until its too late. Love ur content and ive learned so much from u guys! Starting my garden this year finally and its great to go back for reference if i need to.
YES! Infrastructure is my downfall! "This is a good spot" always wins, and then...😏🙄 well, you can tell I didn't think that one through, at all! Even now, we had a greenhouse installed early summer. The raised beds were just slammed in a spot...OH BOY, make sure those things are where they will live happy for a while, if not for good! This last round I put up, I had the hose stretched out and put up markers so if I had to hand water, it would reach! Gardening is measure 3 times, and then test it before moving that dirt! 😆😆
Like many of the other comments, life gives us many lessons. I would say in my case some of those lessons cost more. Hoping everyone has a good and prosperous 2024.
Good video! Planning infrastructure is of huge importance. I would suggest growing some things in pots for a year if you’re new to gardening. Our farm has huge old shade trees and that makes it a challenge to find garden and raised bed space that has full sun. It really makes a difference for tomatoes. Some crops do fine with partial sun. So consider this factor when considering where you’re planting different vegetables and where you’re placing your beds.
As I see your latest version of gardening I am seeing that you are working smarter not harder . Weeding as little as possible by using quality landscaping fabrics and raised beds , as well as keeping things clean and simple just makes life easier and less work . I called myself a lazy person , because I don't like picking up the Same things twice or three different times . A moment of thoughts helps with two steps forward and a half step slipping back .
Up north in Rolla, have been enjoying your content, gosh, for 2 or 3 years now! Appreciate you guys, and the quality content you produce. My eight year old daughter is a participant in a before-school Laura Ingalls Wilder reading program and they are getting a field trip to your neck of the woods this Spring! Happy New Year!
I don't remember when you planted lettuce seed, but i probably sowed the seeds in latr October, and the lettuce leaves are as big as my hand. Not in a greenhouse; they are in a Greenstalk planter.
Oh I will be going back to the lard video cuz I still have lard in my freezer from a pig we bought a year ago 🙄! I gotta just do it! Thx guys, Kristy your “neighbor” in WP😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I had beautiful broccoli plants in the greenhouse. Something ate them all. Have a huge problem with critters. Next year, it's farmers' market. Sarah, you look so pretty. Been awhile since I visited your channel.
Hey guys ... love the Q & As. I am a sweet 60 yr old that is considering a move to the countryside. Healthy and willing to do things on my own. I'm wanting to get closer to the granddaughters. I garden currently and preserve. Trying to learn all I can about being more self reliant. A few chickens, maybe goats for milk, rabbits and such would be my animal choices. QUESTION : What advice would you have for me when choosing my next home and setting up my small homestead?
Wherever you look, first check out any use restrictions. If you are in a town or 'subdivision', there could be restrictions against chickens and goats. But too far out, and you don't want to be too isolated at your age. I am 67 and single, no kids. If I were younger, I would love to be off, away from town, but I have to think of health services. A health scare really emphasized that this fall. All of my plans have been put on-hold for at least 6 months. And I'm having to hire help to maintain the animals I have. For a person who is used to doing this alone for all my life, this is so hard mentally, too.
I enjoy your channel. It's so unfortunate regarding the scammers. It happens on FB also. I just had a generic named person claim his farm was 200 miles from me (he claimed another state about 200 miles from another person). He wanted Venmo/Ca$hApp, which I said no. They he agreed to PayPal to his "son" of a different name as long as it was Friends & Family, which I won't do because I don't know him. Finally, I said I'd just come pick up the chickens -- he disappeared. It's nice that you bring up keeping things easy and practical with the farm. This goes for any size (I have a small suburban yard), especially the mowing! My tiny flock is "clearing the land" for me so that next summer I can do some landscaping. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Just wondering if you would share what herbs you are starting next month. I don't know which seeds take the longest and would like to learn .thank you in advance.
I was wondering about maintaining the chicken mote. I like the idea and I am in an area with a large deer population. So I did 2 things. I have corner gates on the outside, swinging on the long run and hooks on the corner post (both sides of the corners), so it is a straight run down the mote; and rounded corners on the inside (using 2 large posts and a light gate, set at a 45 degree angle), to allow my Zero Turn mower in and able to make the corners. At opposite corners I have a larger gate and corner gate to allow my tractor access. I used railroad ties for the hinged side of these gates. I also use a lawn sweeper to collect the dried grass and chicken poop for composting. I thought it was just because of my MS that I have to over plan, but maybe it is not a bad thing. Thank you for all of the information you guys give us. Without seeing how you do, we would not be able to apply this information to our situations.
Love this channel, been following you for some time. You provide great content with a straight forward approach. May your New Year be filled with love, joy, and happiness. God Bless.
Have you given any thought to growing a row or two of Hybrid willow or hybrid poplar trees to ether coppice or pollard for a supply of high protein leaves and saplings as a close substitute alfalfa for your rabbits. Could be good for your milk cow also. I saw a suggestion for a wood lot using Poplar. One acre is planted of 1200 cuttings on 6ft centers. After 4 years you harvest and get 20 to 40 cords of 4 to 5 inch diameter logs and age them for firewood. Two cords of Poplar replaces 1 of oak. OR, the first year you plant 1/4 acre of cuttings, the next year you harvest all sprouts for fodder and cuttings for the next 1/4 acre leaving one strong one to grow for future firewood. This is a continuous cycle. If you fence it in you could run your geese under the trees to help with the mowing. Grow easy to harvest fire wood with diameter sized for your wood stove. There are many other specie of tree that could be used in a similar way. Chestnut, for nuts, forage, fenceposts, firewood is just 1. God Bless.
Thoose scammers are everywhere! Happy to hear that your X-mas was great! About chicken breeding and keeping a line clean (for new chicken owners, I know that you know) from crossbreading you have to keep the ladies separated from roasters of a different breed for at least 2-3 weeks. That is because the sperm can survive for that long in the oviduct. Otherwise there may be a surprise, not important for your own use of eggs if you don not care but if you want to sell egg to others for breeding. We had a calm X-mas as always, I was a little sad because due my wounded hand I was not able to make the house ready, cleanded and decorated. No baking or cooking from scratch, ate from the ready meals in the freezer but I am gonna have a terrific Easter instead! The weather is totally crazy, the temperatures changes everyday. Yesterday morning we had negative 25 C (-13 F?) and today only negative 6 C (21 F?). Happy New Year from Sweden!
This is my favorite homesteading channel, and Kevin and Sarah are always great hosts. The crazy thing is that they were so enamored with Idaho Pasture Pigs, that I purchased five registered piglets. These adorable creatures grew to have two litters, and we have two more due for February 2024. And then.....Kevin and Sarah had an announcement....they decreed that Idaho Pasture Pigs were not the right fit for their farm!!! So, when they say that they "Plan well" and make changes, be rest-assured that they Will make changes, and leave their past advice and recommendations in the dust. I respect that, as change can be good. I am keeping my fine Idaho swine, and they can stuff it where the ham doesn't shine 🙂
One of my favorite T-shirts that I’ve seen you wear, Kevin, is:
“I Can Explain it to You But
I Can’t Understand it for You”
ha ha ha ha
A lot of people assume homesteaders grow to sell. Most grow to provide for themselves and excess goes to friends and family.
I bought a tiny greenhouse and now before I build it, I'm thinking I want a bigger one like yours. I like the idea of putting a patio set in there and just enjoying coffee in a warm greenhouse
I told my husband we need one for a sun room in the winter.

If you put a few barrels of water in the greenhouse, it will retain the day’s heat and keep the inside warmer at night.
And paint barrels black. Absorb more heat.

Have a very Happy New Year. God Bless you and your family
Love your videos…SO MUCH GOOD INFO…! ❤. Shelly
I enjoy your Q & A videos. Could do more of those videos?
I don't remember when you planted lettuce seed, but i probably sowed the seeds in latr October, and the lettuce leaves are as big as my hand. Not in a greenhouse; they are in a Greenstalk planter.
Nice your greenhouse is comfortable for short sleeves during winter! Great info. Thank you
Oh I will be going back to the lard video cuz I still have lard in my freezer from a pig we bought a year ago 🙄!
I really enjoy your content. I always learn something!
Really enjoyed watching 👍👍
Love both of you guys shirts❤
Just wondering if you would share what herbs you are starting next month. I don't know which seeds take the longest and would like to learn .thank you in advance.
Looking forward to all your videos, education and instruction in 2024👍🏻😊
I called one of our local processors about pork fat but they wanted $8.99 for it! Outrageous!
God Bless.
Hey Y'all you guys can put some horse manure in pallets 4x4 in side the green house as it composts it puts out heat and does not stink
Happy New year to both of u and your family
Great honest advice at the end there
I would love to see Sarah continue the rabbit videos!
We still raise IPP’s and still love the breed. We just no longer breed them. The breeding part was not for us, the IPP’s are for us.
Thank you for sharing the video, and Happy New Year.
I just bought my wife 3 t-shirts from Ellie and Grace. Very soft, great quality, and super nice people to deal with.
Good to know. I will check them out again.
I do not like scratchy shirts.
@@theserenecrane nothing scratchy, it’s very soft.
Unless you get one that had CRAPPY Silkscreen! I paid up for one that immediately flaked off & I wash mine on the Delicate Cycle & hang it dry!
Would like to see a drone view of your property layout without giving away precise location.
I would love to see the salads that you put together! I'm just starting low carb and struggle with salad making.
Thank you the Q&A. I have been following your journey for a bit. How many acres is your current homestead and how do you have it divided up?
Great video to watch.
Thank you! I am a new viewer. Wishing you both well.
