What It's Like Living in Our Truck Camper in Winter

  • Hey! We're Starr and Daniel, this summer we decided to turn the back of our truck into a tiny home on wheels. As huge fans of all the van life conversion videos we see we got inspired to take the plunge and convert our truck with zero experience. We spent countless hours working to turn the back of our truck into a self converted truck camper. We installed power, heat and made it a very cosy space to live in. In this episode we do some cleaning to keep our tiny home organized. It somehow warmed up a lot. It was -30 to -40 for a while but somehow the temperatures flipped. It was a beautiful week and still is very nice out. Now if only it can stay this warm through the rest of winter! The birds are back out since they disappear in the colder temperatures. It was nice to hear them again. After cleaning up the truck, I decided to make some banana bread in the rice cooker. This banana bread turned out great, some of the best banana bread we have ever had. We then went for a short walk at night. We came across a lot of cool things especially the outdoor hockey rink! Thanks so much for watching and have a great day!

    A little cinnamon…..ok a lot of cinnamon. That was great. Looked really yummy too. Your cooking set up is definitely the way to go.

      Haha yes definitely more than I wanted to add but it didn't taste overpowering so it turned out fine. It was delicious! The rice cooker has been amazing, we've been able to make so much more in it than we thought we could. We would love to get a fan installed that way we can fry some things without worrying, I think if we could than there really wouldn't be anything we couldn't make in the truck. Thanks so much! Have a great day!

      @@StarrDaniel yeah a fan will make a huge difference. I’m waiting till warmer weather before I install a max air fan and I’ll most likely do a power system similar to yours with some solar panels set up as well. Watching all the cool stuff y’all make in your truck is inspiring for how folks can live non traditional lives and stay healthy and happy.

      It is amazing! We wouldn't be able to live in our truck during winter here in Canada without it. It will be so awesome for the rest of the year too, we can dry out clothes if it's raining, dry hiking boots if they get wet from a hike, and it will be so nice to not have to worry about the cold weather. Thanks for watching! Have a great day!

    It’s pretty cool that the self service car washes are enclosed there. I wish ours were in North Texas. I understand it is a climate issue, but it would be nice.
    The snow is incredibly beautiful when it is white. Not so much when it gets dirty.
    Great video as always.

    • @StarrDaniel
      @StarrDaniel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes we love that! It's not really used in summer though, it's so much nicer not feeling pressured to go faster from someone waiting and watching you. Agreed! A fresh blanket of snow is so pretty but this gross muddy slush can go. Thank you so much! Have a great day!

      It was hefty but also nice and fluffy! Very yummy 😋 Thank you so much! We're grateful that people are enjoying our videos. The last couple months we've had a lot more new visitors to our channel, We hope one day we can call making videos our job but for now we're just happy to be out there making memories. Thanks for watching, have a great day!

      So good! I (Starr) love butter on my banana bread, it's so yummy! Daniel on the other hand doesn't and he thinks I'm crazy every time I put butter on. I think he's missing out. Thanks for watching! Have a great day!

    I have to go through my bus about once a month and pull everything apart for a solid cleaning. These small spaces get dirty fast but they’re fast to clean! I’m used to the wooden boat world and my solution to that wood problem would probably involve either a coat of epoxy or polyurethane. Whichever I happen to have laying around.

    You guys are so cool. I commend you guys on how you’ve made that truck topper home. I live in Minnesota so I know about cold weather to. I’ve got a 25’ Class motorhome that I go out in once a week and warm it up for a afternoon. But spending all winter in would be a real challenge. But when I was in my 20’s maybe it would be better. I’m 68 now. But anyway keep up the good work and Spring is coming soon!

    I used to sleep my SUV, it changed me alil bit ,it's like survival in your own vehicle, carry food , water, always gas up, I did on cold weather, now I got a place to stay now, warm but I still like that cold temperature

    • @StarrDaniel
      @StarrDaniel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, sounds like an adventure! We completely agree, it is like survival. A lot of the day is spent doing things you would never have to worry about in a house. Thankfully we have a diesel heater installed in our truck, we wouldn't be able to live in our truck in winter here in Canada without it. It has been a game changer! So warm inside now. Thanks for watching, have a great day!

    I'm so close to going full time in mine and just taking off. Good video, once im monetized on youtube i'm out of here. What does your channel make with 4k subscribers? I have about 450 right now

    • @StarrDaniel

      That's awesome! We've loved living in our truck camper, we had an amazing summer travelling in BC and up in the Yukon. Now we are living in our truck camper and working full time to help save up for the next trip, we would love to go down to the US and explore there. We don't make very much from TH-cam, one day we hope to be able to make enough to support our adventures but for now we enjoy making videos and any money we make from TH-cam is a nice bonus that encourages us and helps us make more videos. We've been monetized since March 2021, since then we have made a total of $500 CAD on TH-cam. Last month we made the most we've ever made in a month from TH-cam at $233 CAD. It took us a long time from when we were able to monetize to when we got our first payment. There's some steps and some mail you have to wait for, then you have to reach the threshold of $100 to receive a payment. We got our first payment in November. Our channel has certainly started receiving more attention in the last two month and we are hoping it will keep gaining traction, at this current point it looks like we will be able to make around $200 CAD a month from TH-cam. We hope that things keep going up and our videos keep getting more views, we're glad that people seem to be enjoying the videos we make! We would love to do this lifestyle full time and be able to put more time and energy into making videos. Good luck on your TH-cam journey! Congrats on 450 subs! getting to 1000 subs is definitely the hardest part. Good luck and have a great day!

      It’s my dream to go full time with TH-cam as well. I believe Starr & Daniel will be there sooner than you think. James, 450 is a good start for sure. I just now hit 182. I don’t know what I am doing, but I am having fun doing it.

    at 3:16 you could ways use a white flex seal that either spray on it brush on or that RV roof Coating that is just like a flex seal once Dry it will be just like rubber so you can either rip that board chunk out or just lay it over top and you can dry that are kinda quick just Grab the woman hair dryer a heat gun would be to much and just let it go till dry

      @@StarrDaniel maybe when you start making more money maybe you can do like a trailer and pull a UTV behind it so you can cam like like a State part load up all the overnight camping gear like hit tent stuff then go out exploring. let's all be honest I have not once found a channel that does UTV Overlanding. i think it would be Kool it just dont have to be hot tenting you can go to different states as well and just explore around camping
