Herzog Weird Train! Check Out This BIG Coal Train With DPU! Radar Speed Check Middletown Ohio, USA

- Fast Trains At Railroad Crossings In Middletown, Ohio. Radar Used On Fastest Train. CSX Heavy Coal Train With DPU, New Painted Locomotive Leading Manifest & Weird Maintenance Of Way Train In West Virginia. The Trains In Middletown Ohio Were Filmed Between Soccer Games Again & This Time We See A Goal! The one and only.
I was in Middletown again for Lillias soccer games. Between games I got some fast trains at various locations. We see 4 different locations in Ohio and another location in Fort Gay, West Virginia on the Norfolk Southern Heartland Corridor. The last one is just an extra train that I got a while back. Just something interesting to add. Have you ever seen a train like this? BTW, I filmed a similar one in Washington, Missouri.
The first train is a loaded coal train booking through West Middletown. This is the CSX Toledo Sub. The train is southbound headed to Queensgate Yard and beyond. This is only the second time that I have filmed from this spot next to a block signal. This coal train has a DPU.
Next we see a train with a 20 year old locomotive that was just repainted and looks brand new. I featured this locomotive in a shorts video. This is a railroad crossing next to several new softball fields in Middletown. The train was not doing a horn salute. That is a "Get of the way" horn.
After that northbound manifest we see another northbound train on the CSX Toledo Sub. This train has a Sponge Bob Square Cab locomotive leading it at another railroad crossing near Middletown. This is where CSX installed a new trackside defect detector. It works on 160.230 and is just south of Carlisle.
Then we go back to West Middletown at another railroad crossing. Here we see a fast southbound intermodal train heading to Queensgate Yard. This train is booking! I got the radar unit out for this one. Guess how fast it is going. We see the speed and we see that it is speeding up slightly.
Finally we see an extra video of a maintenance of way train that I caught in Fort Gay, West Virginia. This is the Heartland Corridor that runs from Norfolk , Virginia to Chicago. I caught a train almost exactly line this one in Washington, Missouri. Does anyone remember that video?
We also get to see the only goal that was scored in the two games on Sunday. Lillia is number 34. That was the second game for Sunday. They tied that one but lost the first game. A few days ago I had a video that showed a minute of the Saturday games. They tied a game that day and lost one also. The outro shows the train station in Middletown with two trains passing that I filmed on the previous day and the slide show that comes from the video. I changed the thumbnail pic at 2am Sept 19, 2023.

The radar is both good and bad. It's interesting to use on fast trains but it can be expensive. Radar cost me 132 bucks on the way home. Cars in front of me slowed down and I didn't. Oh well, I am giving them a contribution. lol

Everybody to the hustle.....except for Herzog but that's understandable. Oddly that power unit was reclaimed from some. EMD GP and when it was accelerating extremely slowly it almost sounded more like a fire truck siren
That first coal train goes through my place in Ky. Goes through each way, loaded south and empty north, at least to times a week.
I noticed that the machine near the end of the work train can run the length of all the cars on rails on the outer edges of the cars. So when it fills a car, it can move to the next car and fill it. What an ingenious invention!
That is really cool. I wish I could film one in action. It just brought a memory back. A few years ago there was a really weird looking train that does drainage work along the line. I tried to film it but there was no railroad crossing near them and they had a part break. I filmed them cruising by me in Kentucky on a CSX short line. I think I called it an ugly train in the title

Yellow trade sounds just like the one on the DelMarVa Central trains in Saulsberry Maryland
at 9:34, that defector box has HOOK FIELD stamped on it. That is the name of the airport at Smith Park. Also, did you noticed how that work train had rails connecting the cars , so the loader could move down to each car to load! AWESOME!!
Very cool. Our soccer games were within sight of Hook Field. I saw planes coming and going. There was about 11 people floating around in the sky with parachutes over Smith Park. They were too tiny to film
Yup, those people parachute there a lot, especially on the weekends. I have a few cousins that have went up and jumped, attached to another person! Not me!!@@JawTooth

They have the Ohio Challenge in July, it usually is about 3 or 4 days long. Google that, I believe they take people up, but it is tethered to the ground.@@JawTooth

The second train near the front had both a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Pullman hoppers together.
herzog trains are interesting thers one that runs on the Harrisburg line where i live east of the Pittsburgh line or the Harrisburg east keystone division always nice to catch those i get at least one herzog train if i stay long enough to catch it most of the time im leaving to go home haha nice catch JT

The Herzog train is interesting. That excavator on the rear gondola seems to run along rails on the side of the car and can cross to the next car via the red connecting rails between them. That's how they can unload all the cars with the same excavator. Old logging companies used the same method, with a log loader sitting on rails on flat or spine cars to move from one end of the train to the other, loading each car along the way.
Your meter said 50MPH and I can believe it. that train was booking right along.
Thank you for this additional railfanning video from your trip to Middletown, Ohio for the Soccer Tournament that Lillia participated in. It is busy on the CSX's Toledo Subdivision. I enjoyed watching the trains. That Maintenance of Way train that you caught in Washington, Missouri was on the Union Pacific Railroad when you went to Missouri to catch Union Pacific'[s Big Boy steam locomotive #4014. If I am not mistaken, the Maintenance of Way train that you saw in Washington, Missouri was a Union Pacific Maintenance of Way train not a Herzog Maintenance of Way train.
Oh okay, thanks for the info Thomas! I need to go back and watch that one again. I can't remember where I saw this train. I sure want to catch Big Boy again. So far this year I have filmed at least 8 different operating steam locomotives. My goal is at least ten for the year
That first train was booking,it would take him almost a mile to get that big boy stopped, he was making schedule today! That 2nd one wasn't wasting any time either, he was gaining speed as he went by. I think the 3rd was the fastest.good job JT🎉

The coal drag with marking "GALX" is Georgia Power. Going to the only 3 coal fired plants left, Wansley Bowen or Scherer. The second consist had a lot of toxic chemicals, note how the tanker cars were spaced and there was a brand new DOT-111 car near the end. Acrylonitrile, used for making polymers, Odorized LNG, were among 2 being carried. The third consist was DRYX and FURX, they are the marks for Dresser Leasing and First Union Leasing (now Wells Fargo). Dresser and First Union are the same leasing company.
One hoofin' coal tain for sure. Cool toot salute. Love the bonus EOT DPU. We have a steel fabricator here in Rhinelander Wi. that makes cabs and carbodies for some of the MOW contractors. Stragely, all of this is shipped out by truck. Great video, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

A couple weeks ago they supposed to play at this same soccer park. They had to cancel the game because they didn't have any refs. Luckily today they had 2 referees. One time we played a game and used a coach from each team as a ref since we didn't have any. They have a shortage of refs. @@markwalker1144

I believe that additional detectors are part of settlement from the big wreck\k in Ohio. Detectors are supposed to be 10 miles apart vice 20 mless apart in past.

Wish you'd given us a closer look at that odd, rural crossing @4:18 - what's on the other side and where does it go (if anywhere)? Maybe next time... Also: Interesting, abandoned brick building along tracks @12:21 - wonder what that once was and if it's open to sometime take a peek at. Looks like the remains of a siding is still there.
The other side of that crossing is a granite company and that building is an old depot that is currently a persons home.

@@billstill1794 it has a small house attached to it on the otherside and kinda ran down. Not sure if they are currently living there as I don't drive by that area everyday but it definitely has a bunch of signs that someone lives there.
I captured a CSX coal train in Williamsburg Va. It was really moving fast. The ground was shaking for awhile. Cool video

Great video JT. That coal train had 125 cars plus the lead locomotive and the DPU. Second train had 75 cars plus the two lead locomotives. What a shorty! Third train 100 cars plus two lead locomotives. Fourth had 107 cars plus two lead locomotives and a DPU. Love the dedication and it’s great your daughter is enjoying her soccer. Stay safe!

You know if you had a 35mm camera shoulder strap you could attach it to the radar gizmo and sling it over your shoulder. Always available for use. Just sayin.
Like seeing those coal trains loaded and empty with DPU power, IM was doing 50 mph on the money so I think it's accurate, I filmed NS mixed manifest, trash 14Z yesterday in Rural Retreat with the Sony camera and they speed up to 50 after clearing the main crossing in town, If I go up to Roanoke, Christiansburg VA in November going to film some with My Samsung, nice Herzog train and good luck to Your daughter and Her soccer team!🛤🚂🇺🇲
