Thanks so much for sharing this! To the best of my knowledge, the musicians are: Cat Anderson, trumpet (with plunger & straight mute) Joseph Gardner, trumpet Hamiet Bluiett, baritone saxophone John Forster, piano Charles Mingus, bass Roy Brooks, drums
@@jackharre1 I think that it's something bigger than a pixie. A modern way of approaching this would be with KR Indigo plunger and an aluminum straight mute. Pixie mutes might become a thing of the past! th-cam.com/video/BiCLj_gr_mY/w-d-xo.html
Such incredible sound, and the video complements it perfectly. It's like a scene from Fantasia--just look at those red tracers. There really is no substitute for a CRT image sensor.
Got to have bull chops to play jazz! Its not easy to solo for an extended period of time. on trumpet with one hand using two mutes 🥵🎺 ! Thanks for posting 👏🏾👍🏾😊
You are clearly referring to the scrap between Mingus and Tizol during the former's brief stint with Duke. However Perdido is not by Juan Tizol; it iis by Ervin Drake, words by Harry Lenk.
Such a sound! Such a terrific performance! All musicians are on fire! And Cat's great, better than usual.
This recording has been a real learning experience for me. I love Cats playing ; for me it has been a wonderful experience.
?!?!?!? Mingus with the incredible CAT!?!?!?!?!?
Thanx so much for this EXEPTIONAL document!

I bet Mingus really enjoyed doing that to Tizol's tune-🤣

This is why I love Jazz
If you look closely you’ll notice that Cat’s trumpet was phasing in and out of this dimension. 🤷🏻♂️
✨〰〰🎺😺
Excellent
Wow!!!
JUST WOW
Nice to hear him really stretch out as opposed to what he REALLY did in Duke’s for a living
Duke Ellington said having Cat Anderson in his band was like having Babe Ruth on your baseball team.
Hi , Are there any trumpet guys out there who might know what make of trumpet Cat was playing ? The valve buttons look like Selmer .

Very nice. When was this recorded?
Not sure about date

Yeah this guy Cat Anderson, it's obvious he scuffles having to go up high, but he's a pretty good jazzer..... (😁)
Cat they caled him not cus he play high and loud 👍
@@veselkamileva8752 I'm just joking of course. A lot of people know him just for his high note reputation, but he's a really great jazz player too.
@@sbwyo1966 sure
Cat IS the best jazzician on the trumpet I have heard for a long time; Cat CAN improvise well indeed.
When he started out as a young kid was his name Kitty Anderson?
Wow!
