    When using my DD1, I always check for max head unit volume/distortion through the RCA’s first, then I set the gains on my amps through the amp speaker output connections.

      DD1+ is a must. A little more than the DD1 but worth every penny. Perfect for gain matching and to set db overlap.

  • @thomasstott527
    @thomasstott527 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    a lot of head units do not like 16 volts... you can also just unplug rca to mids in highs in amp....most radios will have distortion at 100 percent volume... should always set to 3/4 volume... if you have a old JL clean sweep cd you can also do this procedure... JL audio also is one of the only brands to call the "gain" input sensitivity... thats what it truly is ...your adjusting the input sensitivity ... you pretty much nailed it... all amps are not equal... you cant just set all "gains" evenly ... and hope the same power gets to each speaker....good video!

    I'm not an expert but you need to test for clipping at your RCAs and voltage match the amp input. That would give the cleanest signal to the amp then set your gains the same way you just did.

    • @dynelepatterson7599

    Yea these full bridge amps are a little more difficult to tune you have to lower to pre out aka bring that volume down a little for you to get a clean signal before distortion hits I usually tune them full bridge amps by the clip light it’s very very close to when the smd shows clip

    • @JacobViral2

      I turned down my bass on the head unit to from +6 to 0 and it helped a lot off camera though.

  • @profas36
    @profas36 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    pioneer headunits start to distort at 56 so keep the volume on 55 and everything should be fine. ofc i dont know what setting you have on your headunit but basicly its better first to check with 0db test tone when your HU distorts. and because i use bass knobs i always tried to setting gain with 7 track which is -15db so whenever i needed i could get that extra more.

  • @Ninjasraynonu3
    @Ninjasraynonu3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jacob also when your battery is low on the dd1 it’s more likely to pick up distortion

  • @COMPASBASSCHICALI
    @COMPASBASSCHICALI 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So you like your deh to be at volume 56 because that's where your mids and highs work better? Thing is that I have seen in other videos they also find out head unit distortion and sometimes for Pioneers people can go almost to volume 62. I think I remember a video from SMD where he went all the way up to 59 for volume or even higher not sure.

    • @JacobViral2
      @JacobViral2  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just don't ever like to tune amps to max nonclipping volume to give me a few clicks of leg room for certain less bass output songs as well as to never max the head unit volume. Your correct though it is volume 61/21.

    I've heard that on full bridge amps you not supposed to set gain without the amp loaded. Supposedly will dmg amp. Is this a myth? I had a sfb amp and used a dd1 with speakers unplugged and it worked. Not sure how you can even set gain with speakers hooked up cause you would have to crank it loud. But I guess if you have a clip light you can play songs a guess. Not sure tho just heard about this on a bass page on Facebook

    @audiofracture1068 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Jacob, lower the output voltage from your head unit on the subwoofer channel. if you can adjust your subwoofer level in the head unit down, try that. it seems to me, in my limited experience with full bridge amps, that they do not like high rca input voltage. I think maybe a max of 2v is needed, what is your rca voltage at your preferred max head unit volume? with lower input voltage, you will be able to turn the gain up a little higher and the DD1 should detect the signal before any distortion. there will be more adjustability and it will be easier to fine tune the gain level on the amp.

    But yeah bro first thing before you touch the amp you connect the rcas from your head unit that go connected to your amp and plug those in to the dd1 and turn up the volume on your head unit after you put all the settings to flat and no bass boost. And you play the first 40hz song and you turn it up until it distorts and see what level you can go to before it distorts then do the same for the 1000hz track and see what the max is on both and go with the lower one of the two and that's your head unit max then you should do the amp and make sure your bass knob is all the way up and your gain on the amp all the way down then turn off all the filters then turn up the radio up to the max before distortion then set your gains to we're it barely gets distortion and you should have a volt meter to help you while you do this so you can see the voltage so if you have another amp you can gain match the same voltage. But as soon as distortion starts then at that point you set your overlap. Steve Meade has a great video on this.

    I left my comments here some people seem to be upset. Understand Jacob is going to be someone. Because he doesn’t give up. I spent most of my wife learning what I know. But by reading more so than buying. I think he’s going to be the future of Car Audio. There’s a few people in this field that lead. D wiz is one of them. They don’t mind the online presence. I’m not this kind of person. Not yet trying to be. I know more about Car Audio than probably anyone. Here’s one simple question that no one explains. To be the best at this you have to understand what this is. The comb, what is it. None of you know. Yet if you had read the cookbooks like I have you would know things like I do. Most everyone gets online finds a brand or as a friend. You’re all doing it wrong. You have to learn and read before you spend your money. That’s all I’m saying. I like Jacob I think a lot of him. Keep up the good work.

    Nice work bro … hey I have a important question and I can’t find anything anywhere I just had 2 setsom db3k 1ohm amps both of them blew and cought fire lol 😅 all I did was put the positive in and then I put the ground into the terminal and poof !!! The first time it happened I thought I fuckt up and touched a wire so on the second one I made sure to be careful and went slow and it did it again I have no shorts in my cables every thing is cleen 1 awg welding cable … I notice on setsom sit shows how to hook up amp and the got it so the ground goes from amp directly to the batt and that’s not how I got my shit I have my ground going to the chassis so if you have any knowledge of why this would happen plz hit me up bro I need help lol 😅I Ben doing installation for years and never had this happen

    • @JacobViral2
      @JacobViral2  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually if you have TWO instances back to back where amps blow, means there’s an error somewhere in installation process. Sounds to me like a ground or power are crossing somewhere and it’s acting as weld arcing out/grounded out. I would definitely ground direct to battery and not chassis ever from amp. Hopefully things are resolved. Thanks for reaching out.

    Will you explain the -5 overlap and stuff lint that

    • @JacobViral2
      @JacobViral2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In summary, a lot of amps don't like to see a 0db tone at full volume to clipping and could possibly blown an amp at clipping especially a hard clip. I've seen it and heard of it from multiple people. Also, majority of music played is around the -7.5 to -12db range so -5 is safe to safe good for majority of the music unless you play chopped/screwed/bass boosted. Another thing I've learned is if you do tune to 0db at max volume you limit your capabilities of maxing the amp out for demos and even burps unless you tune it at say 90% volume for a few extra clicks. I'm still learning myself.

    Jacob, like many are saying here you did this wrong. The first issue many don't know is you can't tune a Brazilian full bridge amp properly with the SMD DD1 or DD1+. It will show distortion even at the lowest levels. (However, this does NOT mean Brazilian amps are dirty!) First make sure you have a clean signal with the DD1 from the head unit (it looks like you know this but didn't show it) Then stop using the DD1 and use the clip indicators on the amps to set the gains up to just before clipping. Secondly, as Sam over at Barevids channel will tell you it is VERY important to set gains with the subs CONNECTED! If you don't you will be clipping after you hook the subs up. This can be very easily verified with an oscilloscope. Here is Sam's vid over at the Barevids channel showing the setting gains with subs connected:

Look up the manual if you don’t have one handy it definitely goes into detail from the radio to the amps to the tones to use. Hope that helps bro, keep the vids coming 🙏🏾💪🏾
