3 octaves aren't all that impressive, really. In same genres that's even a staple. Heck, even guns n roses have songs that require 6 and above octave range, their song Coma requires a range of G#1-B7...
Also I believe the widest vocal range is 12 octaves, not 6 :D
that said, range means absolutely jack shit if the person doesn't know how to use it. Freddie Mercury pulled 10x more out of 3 octaves than Georgia Brown (8 octave range) ever could out of anything
There are few people alive who can do that high part. It's almost like there's actually a phantom controlling Rachel's voice.

Slightly late to the party, but as a dedicated fan of "Phantom" (and theatre nerd) I love all the details in the movements that mimic the stage show perfectly: how the Phantom holds her, how he turns her face with the back of his hand, how she touches his mask. Bravo on the little details.

Jay Vette I completely agree! That's what I thought when I was watching it and thinking who in Pentatonix could sing what part, it could only be him. Like Ashely Kay said, he's the only one that could hit that note, and keep it going.

That's actually just proper composing. It can get very tinny if it's all high. You need that bass to descend to level out the sound.

I do! They definitely look a lot alike and they sound pretty similar, too. Though this guy's voice is a bit higher where Ramin's is more low and gruff.

My god this is enchanting. My favorite part is when he first says "sing" as she is doing the vocalizations. It is perfect because she really looks lost and he really looks like he is possessing her and his voice is just hypnotic enough right there that it left me dazzled. I have probably listened to this 30 times today and I keep going back to that specific part just to hear that word. This is truly an astounding work of art!

I think this is a great collaboration between Rachel and VoicePlay. I have been a fan of Rachel's since I first saw her in 2013 on XFactor. I have watched all her videos since she started posting on TH-cam going back to 2008 once I saw her on TV. She can sing the NY City phonebook and people will enjoy it. What I dont understand is why she has never got a good record deal? :( I am just south of Orlando. Wish I could see her perform live.

well a lot of baritones usually don't get the spotlight most likely because the baritone is the middle of the male voice range, can't hit earth shattering lows or ear piercing highs
He's technically a tenor. He just often takes the part of the baritone (lowest harmony in the chord) because Eli can sing high notes louder. I've heard him sing high notes in falsetto, and this video alone proves he can belt the hell out of some high notes. He just fits in a little below Eli in range. But yeah, you're right about the lack of solos for the lower and/or softer male voice.

Scott has a massive chest range tho. he's able to hit very high notes (c#5) and very low notes as well (c2, and possibly a b1)
