As an American who has lived in China for 6 years I can say the chicken is where McDonald's really shines here. The spicy chicken sandwich and the wings are great. I have to say a lot of the chicken sandwiches from the US side I have never tried because last time I was in the US was pre-chicken sandwich war with Popeyes, etc. It seems like they've stepped it up a bit last time I was there the only option was like a plain crispy chicken sandwich or the McChicken which is just garbage.

I'm from Germany and the portion sizes in American McDonalds are quite astonishing. Our largest soda size is even smaller than the Chinese one. Last week I ate at McDonalds cause I was at an airport and got a HappyMeal. I chose plant-based nuggets, a small salad, an apple and pear soda (no unhealthy drinks options here either) and a frozen banana and strawberry ice cream (no added sugar). The whole thing was tasty and fairly healthy.

The portion sizes are not the issue and never will be. If anything it's much better to get more food for your buck, especially in today's economy. The problem is some people have no self control or discipline and cannot 1) not eat multiple fast food meals a day & 2) not eat fast food every day. Even the American meals are not bad if occasionally part of a generally well balanced diet...the problem is when it becomes the entire diet itself (or nearly)

Honestly the grilled chicken sandwich in McDonald in China is so delicious, I think about it every time I get McDonald in other countries. The grilled chicken thigh is so juicy and tender inside out (even on the bottom), there is skin left on the thigh for that thin layer of melting fat, and the sauce has enough pepper in it to counter the greasiness on top of the fresh lettuce…It’s been my favourite ever since childhood

Sausage McGriddle is the best thing on the morning menu. It's literally pancakes and sausage with mapley syrup. The only thing that would make it better would be slapping some butter(-flavored spread) onto it. Though -- I will admit to liking the SEC version a lot, but it feels like a bit much to have the egg and cheese included, sometimes. Very much enjoyed Tianran's debut! You know what McDonald’s means for young Chinese like me? Back in early 2000s, if you see a high school student sitting in a McDonald’s prepare for his/her TOEFL and SAT exams, you will be so surprised how he/she loves the US over China if you ask, even though he/she might never have been here yet. In essence, we are the generation deeply influenced by the US culture and the trend of globalization in last two decades. It is really sad to see the world that no longer shares the same vision as we have nowadays.

The main problem with McD's in China is that it's the same price as in other countries, so like KFC, it's actually one of the most expensive food options! Also, like the Starbucks there, the McD's restaurants have that kind of ultra modern-luxurious aesthetic, they are really nice places to chill out, and it's not uncommon to see people with laptops working or students studying.

    • @Stinggyray

Yeah, they are more expensive because China has a lot more cheap food options! You can get very full if you just go get a bowl of noodles for 15 CNY (just over $2).
