That turned out really nice! I have dyed a few traditional knives as well as Spyderco scales. You found the same thing that I did. The dye has to be boiling to take in most plastics. Those few extra degrees over just simmering make a big difference. The synthetic dye works for plastic and micarta. For bone I use leather dye directly applied at room temperature. Repeated application is necessary to get the right depth of color.
@@RadioGeekBlades I haven't tried Rit dye on bone. Bone covers were the first ones that I dyed. I had leather dye which is for natural material, it worked good on bone, so I stuck with it. Rit has several versions of there dye and it is specific for natural or synthetic materials.
@@RadioGeekBlades I dyed 2 of my bone handle Case knives. I posted a few pics on my channel. Be very careful when dying Carbon steel blades though. If you leave the knife in the solution too long, it will put a patina on the blades. I had to force patina on the rest of the blades to make it look decent.
@@h4rry4x44 navy blue and purple sounds cool. They are getting harder to find for sure. I picked up two, I guess I should’ve got more but I didn’t want to be a jerk and take them all.
Nice fade job, but ALWAYS take your scales off the knife before the dye job. You dont want water and dye gumming up/ rusting in your pivot bushings/ bearings...
@ Reminds me of a cigarette commercial I’m certain before you were born, it went like this “what do you want good grammar or good taste”. So my question would be, do you want a cute knife or one that functions well? Don’t get yourself in a tizzy I’m just having fun with you.
WOW, that looks amazing. I love how the colors blended. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful blessed day.

Thanks! So you use leather dye on bone, can you dye bone with Rit dye? I will have to try to dye a bone handle knife sometime.

I think this came out great! I just dyed one purple and one navy blue. Now I got to find some more of these knives to dye different colors!
