Maynard Jackson was a legendary mayor. I'm so grateful that my family moved to Atlanta when I was in the fourth grade from a small Georgia town. I instantly was in love from the moment driving through downtown looking at all of the tall buildings from the back seat of our family's car. I grew up in the suburbs filled with black professionals and very grateful for that childhood experience.I love my city of /\TL/\NT/\ ♡

As British Black person Atlanta intrigues me. Technically Britain has the most educated Black population in the western world being the only western country where black kids outperform white kids in schools, the highest percentage of degree holders of any black population in the western world and the highest average earning black population in all of Europe. In fact 2 of the 5 top performing schools in the entire UK for exam results are In two working class black neighbourhoods. But what we don’t have in Britain is Black Universities and I think it effects British black people in many ways. We don’t have collective black intellectualism that thinks about how to improve the entire black community in Britain. Black people in Britain don’t do anything independent of white people. And when you add that the British deliberately do not teach anything about colonial history meaning black people in the uk nearly all from former British colonies, learn zero black history real auto them and only learn African American history in British schools, in an attempt to make minorities less politically. Which has worked, because in the 1970s and 1980s when British racism was more overt so British blacks then were more politically and more like African Americans. But in the late 1990s racism in Britain became more subtle making this current generation not shown their history more like Brazilians than African Americans, where they are more subservient to white people, less political and not as confident and I think this is down to not having HBCU, that inform African Americans of their culture and history and breeds black intellectualism and networks of the educated black classes, all missing in the uk.

Atlanta is a great City. Each neighborhood has its own character. Is beautiful here. A great skyline. Perfect four seasons. Great restaurants. Plenty of things to do. Professional sports. Not too far from the ocean or the mountains with waterfalls. The world's busiest airport. Affluent blacks. Oh and the multicultural Factor it's another thing that drew me here.

Im a west coast kid who grew up with diversity (black, white, latino, asian, european) back in 70's. Never understood the appeal for so many black folks wanting to return to the "south" after our ppl spent do much time tryna escape. I even got accepted to Morehouse (finances prevented my attendance) but in the last 20yrs Ive learned to understand the Why. Atlanta doesn't have to be the only place, those with influence can do that elsewhere and attract a black migration. Props to the ATL

I wish the rest of Georgia was more like Atlanta. It's a beautiful state but it needs to put sensible adults in charge.

I didn’t see my first white doctor until I was 11 years old. I thought all doctors were black men because that’s all I saw growing up.
