    On an inclined curve like this, the shorter your tow chain, the more you are pulling toward the center of the road. A long chain or cable acts like a long trailer tongue would, and the unit being towed wants to go to the inside of the curve and into the ditch.
    If the grader is articulated (frame bends left/right in the middle), moving the front end of the grader towards the inside of the curve, allows the back wheels of the grader to pull more towards the outside of the curve, which is what you want.

    When the plow truck was in the original position there was a tree across from it that could have been used as @n anchor point for a snatch block pulling the truck across the road on a 45* angle , that is if they had cable , or like David Rowley said short chain , & articulate the grader

    I spent more days than I care to think about going out to get equipment out of ditches when I worked for the WVDOH

    Nice video! The funny thing is the grader left in the same situation would have got itself out!

    Put something (a log or similar object) in the bar ditch. When the front wheel of the truck hits it, the wheel will ride up onto the road. The rear wheels will follow.

    If he could get behind use the hill. Gravity is free horse power. Pull backwards

    West Virginia State Roads, they often use the wrong equipment to do jobs , they buy 2 wheel drive tractors to mow with then they sit all winter, if they bought 4 wheel drive tractors guess what they could use them for?

    OMG, nothing worse than watching bad operators and bad equipment. It seams like the grader operator really knows how to tear up the pavement and his chains. Give baby tugs to get the plow out. Sitting there spinning you tires does no good. Now on to the bad equipment. The chain is the worst piece of equipment to extract a stuck vehicle. Use a strap or a kinetic rope and tug on the stuck vehicle.. Far less likely to damage the vehicles and more energy to remove stuck vehicle.

    • @dgc1929
      @dgc1929 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure they don't have a kinetic rope, the road commission isn't in the business of pulling out vehicles. But they are the ticked to pulling out stuck vehicles.

      @TheLittlered1961 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dgc1929 They have chains to pull out vehicles. Why not a kinetic rope? Many departments now have them. A lot cheaper than repairing broken equipment or torn up streets.
