    Yes. I know I screwed up and said the film was released in 1991 instead of 1990. By the time I realized my mistake, I had already saved the video and deleted the source file. I think I got the release date mixed up with the date I remember seeing on the VHS box from when I was a kid.

    Thank you for reviewing a movie that I've always been in the minority for. While I do like the performance of Johnny Depp especially in the beginning with the dinner food and putting on clothes. But what brings me down from liking it are pretty much the issues you have. When you mentioned the botched message and Anthony Michael Hall I was like "I know right? Thank God I'm not alone on this!" Hall's character is a weak villain. His subplot comes out of that left field and all he really does is yell at people and push Edward around and I need my villains to be more than just bullying loudmouths. The salon scene I always found weird. And yeah I felt like there was no payoff. The score was good though. I'm not a big Burton guy. I don't like Mars Attacks, this Beetlejuice while I've grown to apreciate certain aspects I find too crass. Pee-wee's big adventure, Batman, batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Big eyes. Big Fish while not bad is not a movie I'll watch over and over again (good performances though)

      What's funny is when I was younger, I really didn't feel the same way about the film as I do now. I think all that time going to college and studying film really changed my perspective on how I evaluate and critique movies. I notice certain things a lot more now than I did in the past.

    I actually love it that so much, it was great dark fantasy humor.

      I used to love it but now I just like the film despite my issues with it. The humor is far from great to me personally. It's only mildly funny.

    It's only a matter of time until this gets another sequel decades too late.
    Gotta mine that nostalgia.

    OOH I love this movie! I loved Dianne Wiest in this movie and the dad was my fav character. If you ask me, Edward was a sweetheart who deserved better. I love the snow dance scene and the score is beautiful! I *HATED, HATED HATED* the religious lady and Kathy Baker's character. And I loved Winonna Ryder in this! I loved the white dress she wore at the end of the film. There's a comic sequel series about Kim's teenage granddaughter (she's the little girl in this movie) and she meets Edward and it's honestly the one thing I'll take as a sequel because I don't trust Tim Burton or Hollywood with sequels anymore.

    Tim Burton's masterpiece, not to mention the role that changed people's perception of Johnny Depp forever.

      @OcpCommunications  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I like it but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. The writing is just not consistently good enough. Especially in the third act. I feel that films like Beetlejuice, both Batmans, Sleepy Hollow and even Ed Wood are on a higher level than this but I still like the film despite it's flaws.

    • @Ribelin2000

      @OcpCommunications You actually thought *Batman Returns* was better than Edward Scissorhands? That's a laugh.
      In Batman Returns, you had too many villains, Batman himself doesn't even show up until 13 minutes into the movie, you had DeVito chewing scenery with his overuse of sexual puns, Pfeiffer is brought back to life in the most ridiculous way possible (because cats are chewing on her fingertips??? Really???), you have a department store that blows up in one scene and clearly can be seen still standing just a few minutes later, and let's not forget Batman committing cold-blooded murder, of a baddie who was clearly no immediate threat to him. In fact, the only thing that saves that movie from being a complete mess is Pfeiffer's performance, not to mention her stunning beauty.
      I say Edward Scissorhands is even better than any of the movies you listed, but is particularly a *billion* times better than Batman Returns, but that's just me.

    • @OcpCommunications
      @OcpCommunications  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      To each their own. Yes. I do feel that Returns is better than Scissorhands. All of your issues with it are not even problems for me at all. Catwoman being brought back the way she does is just as realistic as Edward existing and how he was created, DeVito is a blast to watch as the Penguin, Batman is in the film enough for me personally and most of the scenes with Batman are really good minus "Eat floor.", your complaint about him needlessly killing a guy isn't an issue for me at all because Batman started out killing people in the comics and the No Kill Rule was never really a thing to me and Burton's direction was fantastic in it as always. But if you don't like it? That's fine. A lot of people don't.
      Yes. I do feel Returns is better than Scissorhands. And I am not alone on that either. Also, why are you throwing in subtle jabs at me? It seems unnecessary. We can agree to disagree without things like "You actually think Returns is better than Edward Scissorhands? That's a laugh..." it really comes across as if you don't respect my opinion at all.
      I respect yours. And I am not saying anything like that about your opinion on Scissorhands or even Returns.

    • @Ribelin2000
      @Ribelin2000 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @OcpCommunications OK, so maybe I shouldn't have made it seem like I disrespected your opinion, but still, I just think Edward Scissorhands is a very heartwarming love story, whereas Batman Returns has Michelle Pfeiffer and that's it.
      Also, the reason Burton kept the details of how Edward was created vague was because it wasn't really important. On the other hand, how Selina Kyle became Catwoman in Batman Returns is much more central to the plot, and the fact that it's written so clumsily just shows one of many weaknesses in the script.
      And there's a difference between Batman killing someone if he has to and committing outright murder, and he didn't have to kill that guy.
      You like the movie? OK, we can agree to disagree. But I just thought it was a major letdown after the 1989 outing and a major disappointment by Tim Burton after Edward Scissorhands.

      @@Ribelin2000Batman Returns is personally my favorite Tim Burton Batman movie. But if you want to judge it the way you’re doing, you have to realize those movies are really satire movies and not to be taken that seriously. If you want a more down to earth realistic type of portrayal, then just watch Nolan’s trilogy. You know, before you judge a movie, you have to know what that movie’s theme and vision is before you point your fingers at it. Because that does make a big difference in perspective.

    I agree. The way the whole neighborhood did a 180 on Edward was kinda outta left field. This movie had all the tropes, the religious zealot, the slutty neighbor, the bully, and the woman with the heart of gold. But I get what they were going for. They wanted a modern-day fable, but they kinda dropped the ball with the writing. That being said, 20 year old me loved this movie 😁

    Tom Cruise was great as Jack-o-the-Green in Legend but that was 5 years before this movie came out. I think he would have been terrible as Edward Scissorhands. Johnny Depp was the perfect choice.

    I love the movie to death but I respect your opinion. However I gotta point out one flaw... Jim came with a gun and shot at Edward, he was trying to kill him

    • @OcpCommunications
      @OcpCommunications  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh yeah...He did have a gun. My mind shot a blank for some reason. But he lost the gun before he got stabbed. So, it's still kind of clunky to me when it comes to how the writer handled the ending. Edward isn't human. So it's not like Jim hitting him with a poker would kill him.
      A better way to handle it would be to have Jim get the gun back and point it at Edward again after he hurt Kim. Then Edward stabs him in the stomach because he has no other choice.
