2:25 - That gave me memories of playing that at my dad's cabin as a kid. 8:29 - Fun fact! "Keep On Dancing" by The Gentrys had on vocals...the future "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart
Thrift stores are always interesting places to go. Sometimes you find some cool stuff, sometimes you see some weird stuff and weird people. There’s never a dull moment going to a thrift store. Great video Ben, I hope you’re doing well. Keep up the great work and take care!
I love these thrifting videos. They're always fun. :) I tried to see who was on that soap opera tape, but no one looked familiar to me. I'm guessing it was made after I stopped watching soaps in the early '80s. If it had Rick Springfield on it, that would have been a definite yes from me. And as for the stinger, motorcycles, guns, and beer. If I didn't know it was a hunting tape, probably shot somewhere up north, I would have sworn it had the makings of a Florida Man joke.
That Soap Opera Christmas tape has to be from the late 80s/early 90s- I did some rewinding and pausing on that one to see if I recognize certain actors and I found a couple I recognize during that time frame. 😂
1:01 Aw, no interest in the toy soldier on the far right? Danny Gonzalez you ain't! 2:35 My parents had that Mickey, as well as one of a yellow shirted Goofy holding a candle. Surely both were sold around the same time (70's or 80's), and I can't imagine a Christmas from my youth without them. 4:10 Someone didn't want to give Mika a chance. (still sealed) Their loss. 6:29 My favorite "late career holiday album" is the Monkees' "Christmas Party". Some lovely stuff on that one, including a very tasteful cover of "Wonderful Christmastime". 6:57 Sad to say, I have a lot of Funko Pops. In my...defense(?), it ties in with community theater, in that I like having figures based on characters that I or my friends have played onstage. 7:53 Always interesting to find a *cassette* bootleg in the wild, though.Closest thing I have to a cassette bootleg is a Paul Revere and the Raiders concert that may just be a "grey area" truck stop tape. I found it at a garage sale in the '90's. 9:32 Not one, but TWO sequels to the infamous "Christmas Shoes" movie. Ooh-wee! 9:49 I used to have that book! Still might, actually. Likely a Scholastic book fair and/or monthly catalog purchase! 13:42 That reminds me: I should watch my copy of that sometime. Got it cheap a few years ago! Probably not as amusing as his "The Search for Santa" with the "NBC Kids". (Still need to track down his NBC Kids special from Easter, too.) 13:57 Pretty sure I have a 6 hour version of that one on VHS...and surely all of those (public domain) contents on a different DVD. Because of course I would. ;) Love these Christmas hauls, with or without the massive finds. Hoping the holidays are treating you well!
Three things: 1. If the Behind the Music episode with John Denver is any indication, Lyle Lovett was a friend of John's, hence why he was big in Colorado. 2. The Funko Pop craze isn't going anywhere. I love those damn things! 3. Did Savers finally paint over the footprint of the old sign?
Happy Christmas thrifing Benny Boy! ANY Thrift strore finds is allways Jolly for us on a budget etc...Mostly DVDs or any AV discounts, Happy Hunting holidays Enjoy your media finds always a fun watch. Happy new Year as well.
I've listened to that Soap Opera Christmas tape. It's actually not bad, but there are times when it goes into cheese city. The nursing home I worked for many years ago oddly had a copy in its CD collection they'd play for the residents. I played it as background music at a Christmas craft show we held there. Also, there was a Precious Moments outside nativity set at that first store. They probably wanted a pretty penny for it. I used to collect them.
Fun one several years ago here in the UK the four youngest members of the cast of a BBC Soap Opera called EastEnders got together to form a group called The Band and had a few Top 10 records!
I remember reading about how there was going to be a Felix Christmas special from an early 00's independently published Felix comic book, and being very excited about. Then I heard virtually nothing about it until I found it on DVD on the shelves of a thrift store. Then I heard it wasn't good and was too disappointed to even seek it out on a pirate site.
i recently went to an antiques store and got an LP of I Feel A Song In My Heart by Gladys Knight & The Pips exclusively because I liked the Buddha Records sleeve. Cool song too!
Ben, Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and/or . Continuing to send you positive vibes and hope you are able to enjoy the time with your mum and dad. You're a heck of a trooper and we appreciate you for it. All the best to you, your family, and all that is yours.
It was about 15 years back, and I was still learning my "trade" but those were the dreams of a 20-something. I was going hard though, fixing electroics to sell, making game systems stop blinking, and knowing what sold, while depending on others not knowing. Swapmeet rat, so it's how I survived. I even one time bought a black garbage bag full of the old Matel handhelds from the 70, and a few retro copies that Radie shack sold at some point. I fixed what must have been 4 Nintendo machines, the originals for the guy with the bag of antique games, and resold it for a good amount of pocket change, over $300 to some guy on the spot. Ebay wasn't Amazon, but as soon as those two picked up everyone was looking for treasures in every pile of what is essentially garage junk. Like I said, 15 years back, but it was starting to change. People found out that there could be monetary value on some of their junk. I get it, and understand but yeah, selling stuff online killed swapmeets, and thrift stores. Because no one wants to be the person that sold the thing that was worth more money than a house to someone.
Was there ever a full series release of the Bob Newhart Show? Sounds like the typical 00's DVD TV show release where they gave up halfway through and told collectors and fans, shut up and watch the bad syndicated cuts at 3 AM. And even if it was, it's probably long out of print, otherwise I'd be very interested in that one as well.
There was also the first try at releasing WKRP in Cincinnati on DVD with all different music, which bombed after the first season, and they finally managed to get most of the original music back and released the full series at once.
It's almost depressing trying to go thrift hunting these days as so many at the flea markets in my area want eBay prices, or better, and many of the Goodwill locations ain't much better, & have devolved into selling crap even places like Dollar Tree, and Dollar General won't touch at inflated prices.
Well, at least that clock with a guy with a Coke bottle cap on his head was made by an actual human being, unlike the AI abomination its Atlanta suits hurled up on all our devices this Christmas. And I have an early Japanese-made CD of the Canadian Brass album shown in cassette form at 7:46.
Hate that Bentson's has went the way it did. That Adam-12 DVD set is one I have been searching for. Bob Newhart I feel you on that one, especially season seven, which is not seen much. A great thrifting episode.
Though of this recently, but what do you think of The Twelve Pains of Christmas? I know you mentioned that you disliked the original 12 Days of Christmas for being the 999 beers on a wall of Christmas songs but what do you think of the parody?
3:02 they had a green ghost game and you passed it up?!?!? My heart just shriveled up and died
2:25 - That gave me memories of playing that at my dad's cabin as a kid.

Nelson Muntz would love that! 13:40
BAM! Second encore!

3:21 I see "Back to Bedlam". My mother loves that album.
That penguin has seen some stuff, man...

wow "rebound from Ideal " I had that ,1970s memories😊
Flea markets are just Goodwill finds at eBay prices.
I love the rebound game! I’m a 61 year old kid at heart.😊
Merry Christmas, Ben! 🎄🎅❄️🎁☃️
2:07 - That's how it was with those Highlanders.

14:13 Phelous has yet to cover this, so a crossover might be needed
Does anyone ever dare to remove Funko Pops from their package? I don't think I've ever seen one in open air.
Fun one several years ago here in the UK the four youngest members of the cast of a BBC Soap Opera called EastEnders got together to form a group called The Band and had a few Top 10 records!
Phelous has yet to review that Felix movie, but I bet he's planning on it this year!

12:00 I have that Chariots of Fire album on record & audio cassette.
I haven't listened to it in a while though.
Recognized that Erector set. Unsure of the manufacturing date, but it was produced before A.C. Gilbert's death in 1961.
Budweiser - dedicated to clean water initiatives so that the future generations can enjoy our flavored water!
i recently went to an antiques store and got an LP of I Feel A Song In My Heart by Gladys Knight & The Pips exclusively because I liked the Buddha Records sleeve. Cool song too!
Wow, you mentioned two of my favorites; Rory Gallagher and Phelous! That makes this my favorite thrifting episode.

Yes, there is, courtesy of Shout Factory. They released the complete series on DVD in May of 2014.
There was also the first try at releasing WKRP in Cincinnati on DVD with all different music, which bombed after the first season, and they finally managed to get most of the original music back and released the full series at once.

Talking about Funko Pop! figures...that trend HAS died off...everyone is just trying to unload them now

Any parody of "12 Days..." is fine with me.
The boardgame also didn't serve in WWII and pretends to be tough.
What was wrong with the name Lincoln logs ?
The "Four Tops Greatest Hits" CD is the *ONLY* worthwhile thing you bought! That Gary Paxton LP is only fit for the dump!
I, too, dislike Funco pops/.. or however you spell it
I feel like I’m know I. Fan of Gary S Paxton
