I would love to hangout and have a conversation with CJ. I feel like we have very similar & different views, absolutely awesome dude. Been listening to Carnifex since high school in 2006, I still have my signed Hell Chose Me album cover framed in my room. Respect to both bands 🤙🏼
He really is a top bloke. He is the type of guy to give you a lift home an hour away then when you get there sit out the front and talk for another hour before leaving to go home.
Im in highschool been jammin out to metal (slipknot and all deathcore) since i was 10, so much love to all the metalheads out there and the ones to come
I've been with Carnifex since 2006 and TAIM since about 2008... 2 of the all-time greats right here. They seem like great lads, too!! 2 great live bands as well. Do yourself a favor and catch them if they play near you.
What CJ said about the ice cream thing is 100% true. I’d be doing online shopping on my safari browser then go to instagram and see relevant ads on what I was searching up. Shit is crazy.
Opět super rozhovor. CJ je prostě týpek, osobnost sama. Takže skvělé pokračování rozhovoru z Brutalu. No a celý večer byla řežba. V této sestavě bych si takové turné dával klidně každý rok... :D
K the whole point of sub-genres is for people to be able to find similar bands to listen to. If there weren't any classifications and I wanted to find more music that had the same characteristics of this band I really like, I wouldn't be able to find it. Also for the record, there's nothing wrong with deathcore.
It's not just to help find other bands that sound similar, but it's about attempting to describe what a band/genre SOUNDS like. Let's not pretend Metallica sounds like Meshuggah, and trying to put them under the same umbrella of "Metal" doesn't do anybody any favors. Sure, they're both metal, but they aren't the same KIND of metal, just like a Great Dane and a Chihuahua aren't the same thing, even if they're both dogs.
Was my second time seeing rivers of nihil and they killed it. They're amazing. Same goes for fit for an autopsy. Frigging insanely talented. Carnifex however arent my cup of tea.
@@waynecalvert2148 I saw fit for an autopsy headline for vulvodynia and venom prison and didnt think they were that good but I did like rivers of nihil when I saw them despite not liking the opening bands
@@cyb3rninja200 see I didnt love their last album and Sea of Tragic Beasts wasnt out when they did that headliner so i didnt go. Now I'm sad i didnt cause Sea is such a fantastic record.
Years ago in a 2014 interview CJ and Lee were asked if they preferred Suicide Silence or Carnifex and CJ immediately went with Suicide Silence. Six years later and look how the tables have turned
"Deathcore" is still a growing genre, which I'm super pleased with 😇this is largely driven by the new wave of what I can only describe as even heavier and crazier music. Some acts like Slaughter to Prevail and Brand of Sacrifice are spreading the word via shock value - social media sharing is a huge factor, and other acts like FIR and more recently Kim Dracula are more subtly combining the fanbases of Metalcore and even Rap with material that pushes into Deathcore. I hope TAIM and CARN continue to prosper and shakeup their sound so they can continue to make a big impact with future releases.
The metal community is f!ckin weird sometimes. Metal is already ignored by the mainstream (not neccesarily a bad thing). Most artists of other genres look down on it and most regular music fans just think it's noise. So being an embattled genre, why pick and fight amongst ourselves? Getting the "deathcore" label is like getting the NuMetal label. Some metal fans and musicians turn their nose up at it and talk shit about it. I just like guitar based heavy music, damn the labels. The metal community should support any band that plays that style, not put it down if it's a certain label.
This is dumb - metal is a very popular genre. Metallica play stadiums. Ramstein play stadiums. Every one of these deathcore bands plays to 1400ish people at the house of blues here in Orlando - that's what most popular bands in ALMOST ANY genre do. No they're not as big as pop music, but most artist based genres aren't, and to act like metal is still some underground thing is laughable. Plus labels exist to help people find new bands - that's it. Bands who get pissy about being called an X or Y band are idiots. Fans who fight over labels are just looking for something to piss and moan about.
I really felt what Scott said in the beginning, first time I saw Carnifex was at a All That Remains headliner show in 2008. It was packed but nobody moved because they didn't knew what hit em :D
These fucking deathcore bands are my heroes and my life would not be where it is today without them. I would have snapped my leash my now. They keep me sane
Chemical Christ is probably my favorite song of this record even though I've never had any experience with drugs. Luckily. And its an awesome Album in general! A shsme I couldn't see you guys in Oberhausen :c
Scott Lewis comes across as a very nice, humble, thoughtful, engaged dude, and his answers are all really well thought out, intelligent, interesting to listen to. CJ comes across as an entitled, jaded rock star just repeating the same tired cliches. Bummer because I really like that one good Thy Art record, but this interview got me to check out Carnifex, so not all a waste of time.
My top 20 favorite METAL bands are: slipknot, rings of saturn, slayer, iron maiden, carnifex, pantera, signs of the swarm, infant annihilator, korn, avenged sevenfold, cannibal corpse, black sabbath, mudvayne, whitechapel, primus, Metallica, thy art is murder, trivium, acid bath, cradle of filth. I love all metal from 1970 to now, excluding some hair metal, and some metalcore. But it is all metal, yeah there are technical genres but it is all metal. Metal is life🤘
I am 47yo and grew up listening to metal and I love Carnifex. Good Metal is good metal. I do have my preferences like Death, Doom, Crust and thrash, but metal is metal to me unless it is Nü-Metal.
Jde vidět že to nejsou žádný vymaštěný hovada jak všichni říkají, a souhlasím hlavně se CJovým vyprávění o tom že starý bohové metalu nechávají prostor ostatním, mělo by to tak být.
Carnifex still holds one of the best concert I went too Can’t believe it’s been 11 years ago now :( R.I.P Deathcore and swinging my arms around when they chugged a breakdown
The gang shit with hardcore is an issue, the genre is about struggle and speaks to the disenfranchised. Which unfortunately brings in clicks and groups that are ready for war, but the sensitivity with those specific people bring nothing but bad energy to the pit. Not all hardcore people obviously.
@@CDCrest makes a lot of sense, I mean, what is the relation between Jesus Piece and Bad Brains? Harm's way sounds more like a groove metal band than HC

It's so fucking stupid, how people label shit. Death metal is death metal. People bitch about death metal, deathcore, slam death metal, porno grind death metal, and what not. It's still just fucking death metal, just some have solos, some have no solos and depend on breakdowns. Lol. Man its all still death metal. So stop breaking it down. Enjoy.
The fact that TAIM was influenced by Carnifex must be a great honor to Scott
