I built my own for about $ 30, it's simply cable and a capacitor, not even a coil or something. The hard part is the know-how, but for that there are internet and books. greetings from Austria
Hi Eric, great video, I wish I could afford a Alex Loop, it's a great antenna. One thing you said about the FX-4A radio from LNR is that it's a SDR, I believe thats incorrect, I own one as well as the LD-5 which IS a SDR radio, but the FX-4A is just a nice QRP SSB transceiver. I use my FX4 way more than the LD5. Thanks again for the video.
I get how you tune it that's clear. Could I ask though: if I tuned like you did but then wanted to move around the same band, would I need to retune to receive say 50khz away from when I first tuned?
Yes, depending on the band [some are wider than others], when you change frequency you must re-tune because of the narrow bandwidth/very high Q of the loop.
Eric I love your video on the Alex Loop tell me how it works Eric and I wish you could check intoK40P please tell me about his loop I would really appreciate it thank you his name is Dale and if you go to qrz and look up his call he's an incredible person and engineer and he made a loop and it looks really good let me know Eric I trust your opinion thanks again my friend
Nice concept, I've been playing around with Mag Loop Ant for a few years, if you saw what the inside looks like you would not spend 400. The variable capacitor is cheep junk and the gear reduction is from some Tonka Toy left over. The variable capacitor is forced inside a plastic box to small for it. If you want to see what the inside looks like, email Carl at Chameleon antennas. No offense Eric I just can't see a Ham getting ripped off. By American and get better quality. Chameleon, W4OP Small Transmit/Receive Loop Sold by LNR. On 40M, the W4OP loop is 4dB better than the Alex Loop, 6dB+ better than the Alpha Loop, 5dB better than the Chameleon CHA-F loop and 10dB better than the G4TPH loop. Eddie kj4fgi
This loop IMHO is horrendously overpriced being just a piece of cable and a capacitor. Secondly, the design with the capacitor at the bottom and the feeding loop at the top is a poor design. It is no good when the feeder cable crosses the plain of the loop. Equally no good when the cap sits at the bottom and you actually touch it with your hand each time you tune ( or detune, rather :)). Classical design suggests the cap at the top, the feeding loop at the bottom. The cap is tuned by the small motor or just by a dialectric stick going down to the loop bottom. Thirdly, there is no diagonal support for the loop, so it deforms quickly and becomes pear-looking just after hour or two hanging on itself in the sunshine... This type of cheep cable made loops are good for random operation and learning theory of magloops though. 73! Linas LY2H

its a one turn coil.
Great video. Are you planning making any more vids using the MFJ 9420?
Can I use my LDG Z-817 1.8-54 MHz Autotuner in series?

Thanks for the awesome video

can this be used on a IC 2300H
Eric you must make a contact for us to believe in that antenna please make a contact at least one contact

This thing is $400!?!??!?!
Are they kidding?! Its only 20w capable even.
No we wouldn't kid you! It was designed as a man portable QRP antenna.

Alex look very good antenna if you like QRP yes for a good antenna there is s price. I have one I am very happy 73 '
very good reason for that its because the tuning capacitor would have to be much bigger.
