    Another great vlog Seth! Very interested in that question about pronation and stability shoes. I have a flat arch but wear neutral shoes. I've done a lot to strengthen my feet in the last couple years, but may also try that stability disc which you use. If you seen my feet one would think i should wear a stability shoe but I'm a mid foot striker, pretty lightweight (~130lbs), have had some decent results in the marathon (2 sub 3 hour marathons) and anytime I try a stability trainer it just feels heavy and clunky. Just wanted to share my own story on the stability shoe discussion.

    10:45 - Is there anything specifically wrong with vertical oscillation? Listening to videos and podcasts by Shane Benzine (prolific biomechanics and form coach) he warns against slamming oscillation too much. Look at Walmsley's stride - he flies! Albeit, it isn't great in excess, it is not a bad thing in and of itself. If you have too much, higher cadence might work?

I’ve got a pair of Turbo 1’s coming tomorrow but I watched a video of yours where you suggested the Vomero might be better for heavier runners? I’m 5’9”, around 190lbs, easy pace around 11 min miles, marathon pace expected to be around 9:30 min miles if not a touch less. There are a lot of content for good and fast runners but very little for heavier runners. I've been on the heavier side all my life. I've loved running for many years. • @peterwilkins7013
      @peterwilkins7013 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't see the point in strides at 5k pace tbh. The point of them is to improve running turnover, stride, form and therefore speed, as well as power. All things you want to develop. It's about the only thing you're going to do which is at that intensity. You might well be running 5k pace or thereabouts doing intervals or reps anyway.

    I don't have completely flat feet, but I do pronate a little bit.
    I usually do use shoes with stability just in case. The Arahi 3 from Hoka is pretty much my go to shoe.

    • @fossenator
      @fossenator 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pronation is actually a required foot function in normal gait. It is a natural shock absorber. Don't stress about getting rid of it unless you are having pain or injury.
      The Hoka Carbon X is an inherently stable neutral shoe. Its should work well for most "pronators".

Plenty of great cushioning and enough rubber tread to easily handle the terrain. Then again, if the trail is a bit MORE, take give the lone peak a shot.

It helped a lot and I haven’t had IT band problems ever since I started doing resistance bands exercises like clams, banded knee drives, bridges, and monster walks consistently. Also, doing lateral box jumps would help a lot too. I’m sorry if this isn’t super helpful I only know from some experience.

      I would add that there are other anti-chafe options like Squirrels Nut Butter and Bodyglide. Vaseline tends to have an adverse effect on your clothes in my experience.
      Another tip is to make sure that your socks fit your feet quite tightly. Any excess material can lead to ‘bunching’, which can easily cause hotspots and blisters.

      Agreed with Tom - I would recommend the Nike Pegasus for a solid neutral running shoe. If you go to a Nike outlet store, you can get the Peg 34s (3 year old model I believe) for like $30-$50. Just look up local outlet malls or outlet/clearance stores. It’s important to get good shoes that you know are reliable rather than prioritize inexpensiveness, because otherwise injury is bound to happen.
