    In Quebec safety inspection are more of an suggestion than a law! I seen shit you would not believe. I must thank you for all the tips of what to look for defenders over here in the EU had 1 for sale that had tipped over in a ditch no rust and mostly damage to rear box that had a lean to it. sold for $4000 I have a friend in sherbrooke who still in the trade!

    I'd say it was 300tdi before they stuffed (jammed with extreme prejudice) it into the disco 200tdi. That would account for the moved motor mounts. If memory serves the TD and 200tdi have same position mounts but 300tdis were different. Hence why you need a stubby bellhousing r380 on a 200tdi as engine is further back. Oh and the genuine tdi stickers on the body as well seems like too much effort to be fake
    That is a bodge tastic defender though, bet there are some fretted splines in every shaft , oi-lless worn cvs and more clanks and bangs than you can shake a stick at😂

    I know it's a cheeky question but what sort of money are they paying for these vehicles?
    The arsonist land rover supplier should be put in jail for allowing that to go out. They should be reported to the authorities.....
    Mind you like you say.... They keep you busy and in tea bags.
    I doubt you are looking forward to working on that pile of junk though.

      In order for the car to get on the road on Quebec it has to pass vehicle safety for the province and meet Canadian 'standards' (daytime running lights etc) so details have to be added into the national computer to say it conforms and the the vehicle can be registered at the licencing office - there is quite a paper trial - so no inspection, no licence
      IF, however the vehicle has been already licenced, but has passed by 1 day the expiration date of the road licence, it has too be inspected - there is no annual inspection here - so many go to the local dealer, 'sell them' the car for $120 and then buy it back with a clean licence = a registered dealer can jump the inspection stage
      it is a joke!

    I can't even laugh at this really cos it just boils my piss that somebody is hoovering up used Defenders (for peanuts) that *would* make decent projects for enthusiasts and then selling them for inflated prices.
    It's a crying shame that a local agent, in Africa, couldn't cut these chancers out of the process but the trouble is that NGOs and corporations want to sell entire fleets, all at the same time, rather than selling individual vehicles which means any buyer has to have enough cash to buy in bulk to get into the game.
    Are these vehicles sold sight-unseen, though?
    Surely, if there's a yard full of them in Montreal, it'd be worth sticking somebody like Mike on a train to Montreal to pick a good one?
    A buyer could pay $1,000 for a professional inspection and *still* save ten-times that amount in repair costs.

    • @BritannicaRestorations

      I did suggest this service- 'Save $19,000 on a used Defender'! Pay me $1,000 to have a look and tell you not to buy the $20,000 liability!

    As it has not got a vin plate is it even legal to sell a car in Canada without one could he not get his money back as it could never have passed any tests that you have over there the fact is its just not worth you spending time on a heap of junk like that unless you are going to be charging him 50p per hour labour charges.

      We had a chat and decided the best course of action would be to get it as safe as possible first -- brakes, steering etc
      But I would not drive it as it is

    If you can't find the VIN - how the hell did they register it? Surely there's a VIN check by the quebec equivalent of the DMV before they will give the docs?
    Boy thats a dodgy motor - Arfur Daily would be proud to flip that'n. I've seen better motors in pick-n-pull

      They write on the receipt 'project vehicle' or 'restoration vehicle' BU supply a safety which means it can be driven on the road - go figure

  • @nickboylen6873
    @nickboylen6873 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think this vehicle should be reported to the authorities, along with the vendor and inspection centre that allegedly passed it - it’s blatant fraud and will kill some one. Pound to a penny that the vendor is importing batches and using one good one for all the inspections, sending it back again and again wearing all the different VIN plates.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This could open up a huge can of worms - there is a lot more to this than I can write here

    • @nickboylen6873
      @nickboylen6873 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll bet, but you have to be careful of libel and defamation laws. Very prudent that you haven’t named the importer/vendor, despite what I presume a big temptation to do so.
