    her piano playing is superb and this theme and variations is fantastic! The theme is so beautifully formed to begin with and the variations are full of wit, charm, inventiveness, craft---all the qualities that composers strive for and she seems to effortlessly command...

    Alma is an old soul, a child of music reincarnated. An angel, sent to give us hope, and inspiration.
    Above all, Alma, which means ‘soul’, in Spanish.... brings joy.
    Thank you Alma.

    She's endlessly fascinating to watch I think because she's so different. You rarely see children presenting themselves the way Alma does, with such style and panache.

      +StationOfdreams Alma is a genius-level example of the way children can blossom if they are encouraged to find their own creativity and aren't force-fed lifeless information in a regimented school setting.

      It all comes down to how the brain is "wired" because there's no way simply "practicing" can cause what Alma has done all her life from an early age, the neurons and all the rest are connected better/differently that the average person. Even younger she was proficient on piano, pipe organ, violin, singing, composing and improvising complex music and already composed an opera! that doesn't come from practicing a couple of hours a day, the practising helps bring out muscle memory and strength, but most of the music is coming straight out of her imagination directly to her fingers with NO delay or indecision. It explains the genius of Mozart and the other child protegies in music and many other rhelms like math etc

    I’m in my 40s and don’t write or play that well. People who hear me play say “you’re a genius!” And I always deny it. They think I’m being modest, but I’m just being utterly honest.thank you Alma for demonstrating genius.

    This is superb. Sophisticated variations at such a young age. If there is a Heaven, then Mozart, Beethoven and many others are gathered round to listen to this outstanding young composer and performer. My older sister composed as a child, and I could do improvisations over my sister's playing of "Love Is Blue", that was when I was 5 or so. We thought it was quite good at the time, but Alma is on another level ! What an amazing talent. Great to hear as usual.

  • @erpollock

    Alma says that this melody came to her in a dream, and I have no trouble believing that. It really does have a way of sitting pleasantly in the semi-conscious mind while one is thinking about other things. How fortunate we are that she woke up, remembered it, and thought to write it down.

    "this Mozart not Alma"; probably, but we must remenber the first young compositions of Beethoven; In fact they remind us Mozart or Heandel; yes, and other musicians indeed. But then, in a time, Beethoven's compositions create a few new World in the music for all the times...Yes, perhaps Alma Deutscher now remind us Mozart, but..Pay attention: in the future we dont know what kind of World she will give us, and what kind of new sounds she will create...This is just the begining, and Yes, she is still growing (in music and mind) so just let's hear her music and follow her, we still seeing and hearing a coccoon, imagine whe she turns in butterfly...Danke Schön Alma

    • @shermansmart4369
      @shermansmart4369 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yes. There is not a composer in the past who wasn't influenced by the giants that went before them. For instance, my favorite composer Rachmaninoff (who many think was a second rate composer who only composed two works, the C#minor prelude and the 2nd piano concerto. He finished 3 operas, 2 large liturgical works, 3 symphonies, a choral symphony, over 80 songs for voice and.piano, 4 piano concerti, a cello sonata and a wealth.of music for.one, two, and three pianos, etc.) His early music was heavily inspired by Tchaikovsky, Borodin, and Rimsky korsakov. However, we are talking about the 21st century composer, Alma Deutscher. Of course her music is influenced by those.she has heard since infancy, but yet each composition is uniquely "Alma Deutscher" and is full of her personality and sense of humor. How about the false finale of "Dance of the Solent Mermaids" or the little trick she played on the audience at the finale of the last movement of her string quartet, or the trick she played when everybody thought that "Cinderella" was done. After the audience realized the trick, the applause died down and then came the true finale. Now her music isn't only inspired by the galant period, but by early and the high romantic periods. The last few bars of the first movement of her violin concerto sounded like Tchaikovsky. Perhaps the composer whose early works could not be compared to any other was Prokoviev, except Gerswin on hard drugs.

      What is very exciting about someone like Alma is that we get a very unique gift in the present that we can no longer get with many of the greats that have passed on. Not only do we get to hear Alma's music, but we also get to SEE HER actually performing her music. It is somewhat of a historical tragedy that many of the world's musical greats such as Mozart, Beethoven, and others lived before the time of recordings and videos and that we did not get to see them perform their songs themselves. I would have loved to see Liszt perform live. I hope she has a long and successful career where she continues to create, both as a virtuoso and as a composer.

    There's a big wish inside my heart to learn this wunderful piece of music. And with big I mean big. I'm in love. And when I am in love it isn't enough to just listen. I really wish that Alma you can read my words, and some day there will be a score, so my dream can become true. I really thank you for this.
    It would take me a lot more practice than Alma or other pianists to play this piece, maybe three months or longer. But it would make me so happy.

So give the girl her due... She is Alma and she is fantastic...her music is Alma and that is fantastic....

    • @OFWarhhbTN
      @OFWarhhbTN 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kant and Biomirth, I think you may have misread Karel’s intention. I read it as a statement that all the great composers were inspired from above, they “channeled” their music from above; they are all now in heaven, from which came their inspiration, and now she is receiving her inspiration from the same source. Of course I may have gone farther than Karel meant, that is also possible.

    Something like that must be fiendishly difficult to learn, never mind compose. Her speech at the start is a very clear indication of how she thinks. It is simply information given because it might be useful. A trait common in the highly intelligent but made far clearer here. It exemplifies the brilliance within her music.

      paul bouland: I agree. Alma is a rare free spirit who is writing beautiful music which should be cherished. To be signed by a big record label who would tell her when and what to write would be the worst thing that could happen to a wonderful creative genius, and beautiful human being like Alma. As Daniel S. Gleason says, her music does need to be heard, but not like that.

Being privileged to be at the premiere of her opera Cinderella in Vienna in December, I and many others were enraptured by the whole utterly gorgeous performance. Alma is going to be one of the greatest composers of the 21st century.

      So true. I watched a youtube of her Viloin concerto mouth agape in astonishment almost from the first notes, once the orchestra came in full force I openly wept literally unable to control it. I watched it again the next day and the same thing happened all over again.

      I've listened to her Piano Sonata (both her performance at age 6 on youtube, and on the 2013 CD) many times, and it always leaves me in awe. The sonata, especially the first movement, is such a perfect gem of composition. It's a shame the score haven't been published yet.

    Rosemary Isabel Brown (27 July 1916 - 16 November 2001) was an English composer, pianist and spirit medium who claimed that dead composers dictated new musical works to her. She created a small media sensation in the 1970s by presenting works purportedly dictated to her by Claude Debussy, Edvard Grieg, Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Igor Stravinsky, Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

    I hope Alma soon gets an opportunity to try out one of the new Barenboim pianos. I would love to know what she makes of it. Pity there are only two of them in existence.(That's two pianos, there's only one Alma.)

      I am writing this in July, 2016 and a few months ago Alma did get to play the Barenboim piano in Vienna with Maestro Daniel Barenboim and Maestro Zubin Mehta observing. These two musical giants are very big supporters of hers. Maestro Barenboim told her, "Everything that can't be taught you already have." Maestro Zubin Mehta is Alma's patron for the European debut of the full production of her opera "Cinderella" in Vienna this coming.December and January. This production is big budget.and will be for full orchestra, chorus, and dancers, besides the cast. This is going to be a world event. When was the last time an opera written by a child of ten (Alma is now eleven) performed in Vienna and not just written by a child, but a girl. Mozart's first major opera was written when he was eleven. Alma was working on her opera when she was eight. Alma has come a long way since this piece was first performed and has become a world class composer.

      Thanks so much for this information. I've just seen the pictures of this meeting in Vienna in April 2016. Words fail me, it's like a fairy tale that Alma might have dreamed up herself.
