Great video! I just installed one on my F83. It was working fine, but when I turned off car and started again the wheel doesn’t pick up the RPM, hence lights won’t go on. You or anyone experienced this?

Just wanna say a massive thank you, took me around 4 hours but did the install exactly like yours and works a treat. I took it to my local bmw retrofitter and they said it couldn’t be done. Thanks again :)
I got the same answer, parts told me it can’t be done, it’s not legal in USA. Shop foreman said he will do it for $1500. BMW website USA advises $400 for installation. Dealership have been letting me down lately.
Cheers dude! Wouldn't have been able to install my wheel if it wasn't for your video so thanks for your time and effort! I bought a 2nd hand wheel which didn't have the wheel adaptor cable harness so it didn't work at first but I got in touch with the seller and we did a swap. All good now!
Thanks for the video. Helpful for my install. FYI that wiretap with the lime green wire. Make sure its hella tight and double check it and tighten again. Wheel Led's wouldn't light up and turns out it was that tap loose.

That's a nice wheel. Well done on this complicated install. Great job! Not sure this wheel is for me though because it seems kind of busy for a steering wheel with all the lights and readouts. I just recently installed the MPerformance V2 wheel on mine and it was a lot easier to install since you don't have all that cabling. The cool thing with the V2 wheel is the blue center marker since it matches the blue in my seats perfectly and I also like the combo of alcantara and leather as well.
I have the same steering wheel but I don't know what is the best sep up to turn the lights on, I prefer to see the lights come on at speeds of 50 to 100 miles
Great video. I just bought this for a 2016 F10 M5 LCI. It’s a different part number for different cars for some reason. Do these install directions pertain to the M5 also you think?
Hey man with those little black bmw wire taps, do you have to strip the wires or did you just press them in with nose pliers and they still made good contact to the metal?
You just press them in, no stripping. The wire taps cut through the plastic shielding once closed tightly creating contacts for both wires. Make sure the taps are closed all of the way or the contact will not be clean.
Thanks for replying. Guess I’ll hook up the lighting function to the Bmw performance shift knob I installed. Wasn’t feeling those wire taps when I saw them. That wheel is definitely on my todo list but little upset that I already paid for that dry carbon trim and it comes with the new wheel.

I ordered an aftermarket steering wheel which came with a wireless OBD..wondering if that connects via Bluetooth? Would you happen to know if that bypasses the wiring steps in the passenger footwell?
You mention not to turn the electronics hub ? How do you remove to wire into harness without doing so ? A little worried about this part of the process

Nice job! Subscribed. I just installed this wheel on my F23 in April. I have noticed that when the cabin gets warm or the sun shines on the wheel, the electronics will not start. Instead, two red lights on each side blink twice, and the display does not turn on. After doing some research, it looks like there is a thermal protection circuit to prevent it from turning on if the wheel gets too warm. I'd be really interested to see if you have the same issue with yours.
@@ThicWhips I had it happen here in Maryland even when it was only low 60s outside and the cabin was not that hot, but the sun was shining on the display. I'm hoping to get back to garaging the car again soon.
@@fhdst Same. I wouldn't recommend the wheel to those who want functional lights/display all the time, unless the car is garaged in spring/summer/fall. I have not been on a drive when the wheel turned back on with air conditioning.
Hello i have a problem after a few years with my oem display steering wheel, i dont have the book to find out how to reset the wheel, when i start my car, the leds dont flashes , but bmw performance shows up,, do you have a solution thank you

I put Protective film over whole display/shift light cause I learned the hard way when it was in my 135i that scratches and swirls can happen at any time and boy does it look ugly in direct sunlight
Thank you for this video. I wanted to get this wheel myself but I thought it only worked in automatic vehicles. I drive a 2015 M235i 6spd. I wonder if this wheel would function in my car.
I installed it yesterday to my F82. The Led's + Display starts for about 10 seconds like in your video. (every time I press ignition button) After that the display turns off and nothing else happens. I can press both buttons, but the little display does not start up. The bmw manual says, that in some cases you need to use CON7 instead of CON2. I tried Con2 and Con7, same issue. Is there no can signal or maybe an issue with the buttons from the steering wheel (Left and right one)?
The instructions say to tap the green and brown wire in the the passenger door harness. You've plugged them into the con3 and the footwell earth. Does it really matter where they go or can they tap into any voltage and ground?
Great Install video Bro.....I have one on my M4 Competition....looking forward to the next video. Quick question....my performance wheel on some occasions does not fire up when I drive the car....I would welcome your thoughts or a follow up review after you have used it for a while

@@ThicWhips i do have paddles but i'm guessing they are just unplug them when removing and plug them back in when installing? i took them out once before when switching them to the carbon fiber paddles.
Sometimes I’ll just drop the back seats in my f30 in case I shut the trunk still so I can climb tho the front to the back to pull the emergency trunk release

Yup that just happened to me! Seems common under extreme heat. I let the cars cabin cool off, came back and it worked fine again

I have this issue with mine. It doesn't turn on in the summer now at all. Requires hours of air conditioning for it to turn on again. So dissapointing

The brown wire is just ground. You’re looking for any low voltage ground wire, footwell light does the job fine.
did you connect the brown wire to the brown wire from the footwell light? couldn't really see it in the video.

It’s overheating likely. This is common on these wheels. They are very sensitive to humidity and heat.
@@ThicWhips ..Yeah it seems to be a common problem...thing is I live in Ireland and its baltic most of the time so it must be hyper sensitive lol

Race display takes up the space where heat would be. Also heat and electronic displays don’t play nicely together
