    Mark, If you make more of these, and use a t-nut for each tool holder, that would be your "quick change" setup.

    You hope? We all hope!
    That is a lovely lathe, Mark, and you’ve really done it justice with your work on it and setting it up. Thanks for the videos. Couldn’t help thinking your tool holder system is more or less a duplicate on what I use on my little Taig lathe, except there each tool holder has its own tee-nut semi-permanently in the holder. Enjoy all your videos.. Les in UK 🇬🇧

      Somebody else mentioned the same. I need to mass produce the Tee nuts now :o) but I agree.

    Hi, Mark. Someone once gave me the idea of using a punch to turn over a thread or two at the bottom of the threaded hole in tee nuts (at two or three locations around the periphery). Cheap and easy way to ensure a bolt without a shoulder can’t go all the way through.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, yeah, I have done that and would have again if the threads were too long.

    Well done. You are creative, using limited equipment to produce far better quality items that many others could/could not produce. At times you fly by the seat of your pants, but we all do that at some stage, but your outcomes are regularly very good, even though they might take a mod or two to get them spot on. You are quiet and the last thing you are is full of yourself. you are a good teacher for those learning either woodwork or metalwork.

    The tool holders are a good addition and I agree that having slots on 2 sides for other cutters could be very useful. You might also add a 3rd set screw not so much for clamping but to hold shorter tools too.
    Nice work, thanks for sharing.

    • @WinkysWorkshop

    Nice job, I love that old lathe more and more every time I see it! Especially with your improvements, such a nice little machine, still have a hard time in my head thinking, it’s too nice, he shouldn’t be using it. But I’m glad you are, enjoy watching it work, you are the master! 👌

      Thank you very much! Yeah, I agree... my south bend is a work horse but it gets very dirty. This little lathe is too pretty to get dirty. However, I plan on making a pan to fit under the lathe and use it.

    You may consider making that tool post block a bit bigger and milling it all the way around, make it a 4 position you could just loosen it up and spin it 90 deg for the next Opp. Just a thought.
    Neat little lathe though. 👍🏻

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah.... that is doable but I like being able to use longer tools. I may mill a slot of the opposite side. Thanks

  • @daveticehurst4191

    Great outcome. Why not use standard cap head screws instead of grub screws. You get a bigger hex key for tightening. Good luck with thetailstock next week. Regards from Australia.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be ideal but the setscrew (grub) has a dog point.

    If the Tee slot runs along the back of the lathe you could make and fit a taper turning device. Alternatively you could modify one from another brand. I used a Boxford one on my Hardinge. Went straight on. The difficulty would be releasing the cross slide nut.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ways on the back have all sorts of potential uses. I was thinking about using it to mark snap ring grooves.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Sorry for the slow reply. I can make a tap wrench for you but when you add up all the parts it gets kind of expensive. I've made several in the past. The tap holders are about $30, the 3/8" extension is maybe 6 bucks the brass balls maybe $4 and I always include a carbide countersink and they are $25 to $30... the reason I like to do that is that the advertised 3/8" countersinks are not always 3/8". Thats kind of irritating. If you're still interested contact me at Winkysworkshop@GMX.com

    Machine a slot for different size tools on opposite sides of the same block. That way you can just spin the block around for double duty.

    I started calling my "lantern" tool post a "Tourette" tool post. It was the cause of several sudden outbursts of profanity. It wouldn't hold a position unless I put (what some would consider) way too much "gronk" to it ... and sometimes it would still move on me. It was a motivator for me to make a home brew "quick" change style. I look forward to fully retiring the lantern post some day.

      Just thought wth the beautiful job you did on the table you could use the same wood process and put a piece on each side of the handle on top. It would be smoother and just top off the whole thing. But it looks beautiful the way it is. Well done.

    On your tool holder why don't you mill a 1\4 slot all the way around the square block so each tool holder will hold 4 tools. Then do a 5\16 one the same way. And get the most out of your tool holder. To change a tool just spin the block. Load each block with 4 tools. Just a though. I made one like that for my South Ben and it works good. And the old lathe is looking real good.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I might do both sides but to do all 4 would necessitate cutting the HHS very short. I guess that would be okay, just hard to handle when sharpening.

    • @anthonycash4609
      @anthonycash4609 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WinkysWorkshop you build a bigger block . Mine is 3X3X2 and i milled out a 1\2 inch slot for carbide tooling. But i also know finding that size material to make it out of could be challenging also. Either will work. The old lathe looks good.

    • @WinkysWorkshop
      @WinkysWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonycash4609 For sure a bigger block would help for small HHS tools. Thanks
