- Fresh off the boat from Drag Week, MCM Nationals saw the cresta's cylinder temperatures outside normal parameters causing the engine to go into safety mode.
Thinking the problem was fixed, we ran again only to discover the cooling system over pressurised.
Benny takes out the engine to prepare for a fresh build.

@@neilomac with the oil the colour it was, i'd say it was the cylinder split rather than the head gasket.

VGG showed a bloody good trick re the coolant that hides in the engine forever until you tip it ever so slightly, use a shop vac and suck it all out prior to pulling the engine out! Im going to give this a go next time I have to do this job! Great series Bennie

The new motor did really well on the dyno at summernats. I didnt get to see the pull but walked in just after to see 1271hp up on the screen. Love that car!

The pre-planning of the engine bay and eliminating all the excess stuff in the bay makes pulling the engine look pretty painless

I always use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove those clips so they don’t go flying across the shop to never be seen again.

Fair play to that Barra engine. Surprised you got as much as you did out of it considering you more than doubled its output and canned the absolute shit out of it for years.
I think that engine earned it's retirement fair and square.
Benny, was thinking about this. Why not design some actually FUNCTIONAL catch basins? It always weirds me out that everything to catch fluids is small and useless. Would it not be better to just make a catch basin that just slides under the car and is as wide as the car? then no one has to spend ANY time with a mop.......... just something i always notice...... dont mind me hahahaha

When does it become cheaper to build a second car for the state's? I know the point is racing the Cresta, but shipping it seams like such a pain.
how much is shipping? then how much is a car for the US, engine, transmissions, wheels etc, then add in storage and all the other costs, im not sure it ever WOULD end up cheaper, as he would need all the relevant parts THERE to compete regardless, so would either have to be taken with him or bought locally.

After having a cracked block make milkshakes, I had to clean the smutz from the whole dry sump system. Not much fun.

Did you check the engine that broke a valve in the US??
i believe thats teh one thats being rebuilt. or at least the top end is. the bottom end is the engine that ended up in the Mustang after an issue with THAT at drag week, unless they have sourced another engine for the Mustang
What we really need to know is why the car has s right inner headlamp. It never.had one before.

This might be a bit controversial but I'm of the belief that of late the content from BCW & The Skid Factory is significantly better then MCM.
Don't shoot me it's just an opinion I could be wrong but I really believe that at the moment Benny, Al & Woody are on a high.

id have to agree with you on that. theres nothing wrong with the MCM content BUT its just so repetitive nowadays. always some Japanese thing (Usually Subaru or Nissan) or VW Golf. if i didnt know different, id SWEAR thats the only cars available in Australia!

Levi Irvin we have been using heaps of different brands, most of my tools come from my time as a professional mechanic. We’ve recently used SP heaps including our Dragweek adventure and they’re great value for the money. Their tool kits also have foam inserts for the tools so you can easily check to see if the 10mm’s have escaped.

Real question is, what the mayonnaise in the sump because of head gasket failure or customs pressure washing?! xD
I'm not a mechanic, but the fact that piston number 2 had a green tinge to it suggests either head gasket failure or, worse, a cracked bore or piston. I reckon the pressure wash didn't help it, but wasn't the primary cause.

i think he plans to fit the engine being rebuilt then look at what failed in that one, which is why its on the stand.

Lmao that engine already blew up once on the dyno before it was even tuned. Thousands of cars get shipped every day and they don't blow up, can't blame customs for everything.
Problem is the Custom's can't risk mucking around with bio-security at the border. As much as the pressure washing sucks, it has to be done.
Well the video just went up on Cleetus channel. Like I said it was already broken before he even ripped a skid. Thing was pumping smoke out the breathers like a steam train at idle. The amount of crap I saw people saying about that car today is ridiculous. Blaming customs, saying it was sabotaged, someone was saying the sump was full of sand, blaming the salt water on the trip over. Cleetus makes some great videos but damn does he have some retarded fans.
all they need is a factory style airbox to prevent water getting into the engine through the cone style air filter. its entirely possible that something this simple MIGHT have even saved this engine! it wouldnt be the first i have seen destroyed by a water soaked air filter and water filled intake (without hydra locking the engine either)
Ever thought of putting the running gear in something a bit more aerodynamic ? Or is that not a big thing with drag racing?
I think at this level weight would matter more. Aero being important for high speed, half the drag they're not even going that quick.
But the reality is Benny likes the car, so its not going anywhere.

if you remove the oil cap when draining the oil, gravity will evacuate the oil faster
Those trays are absolute shit. Whomever designed them needs a slap in the face. Seriously, it's easier and less messier to buy one of those super cheapo gas canisters, cutting the side out and using the head to pour the junk fluids out that way.
