One trick I saw this fellow use. He put two sticks in the ground and then put his boots over the sticks soul upwards. Another tip I’ve learned - put your boots in your pack at nite or carry a plastic bag and put your boots in that when it’s cold and wet and you’re not using a tent. If it’s raining and you can’t get your pack under the tarp then bring along a backpack cover and let your pack sit out in the rain (protected by the backpack cover).
What is your bag or quilt rated at? How much temperature do you think the Observer adds to your sleep system? I'm trying to figure out how lightweight of a quilt I can get to get down to 0C comfortably or as low as -6C in a bivy as I use one which uses a PTFE material as well.
I saw a UTube video Paul Messner made demonstrating 3 hooped bivi bags. I think all 3 had facial bug nets incorporated. I was impressed by this style of camping. You might think, “What if it rains”? Ok, carry a tarp is the answer. I like the low profile angle of this style of camping.
